Kevin Talbot Buddy...I'm just not a Hobbywing fan. To me , it's reverse engineered asian stuff. I've had Castle last me over 10 years , so that what I run. Almost two years ago I bought a Hobbywing esc for my crawler...had it in there for just a few minutes and pulled it. It just didn't have the control of my Castle/BLE Pro esc's.
Fábio Castro I understand the budget thing but in electronic's you get what you pay for. I had a first-generation MMP 3s and it last over 10 years....after that is started puffing batterys but it still worked. That's 10+ years of water , mud , snow and 10+ foot drop-offs. I've bought Holmes/Castle since with no problems. Brake that down over 10 years and the cost is minimal. Plus , i'd rather support an American company.

Hey Kevin I have had this issue happen a few times. Disable your low voltage detection. Seems to fault often. Circuit history so you have to use your head and replace batteries before cells get too low.
Thanks Kev! i fix my max5/ Leopard 1350 combo 8s broplem, just soldering new motor connectors, and remove wire adaptors motor/ESC. it works 6s fine, 8s make few cut offs before runs ok
I have a drone that’s been experiencing pretty much the same problem. It would start to work then one ESC would cut out under heavy load. If I put pressure near the bad ESC, then the problem would stop. After reading your description, I’m thinking that one of the the solder joints to the ESC is weak. Tanks for the tip.
Dear Kevin, i love your vids i just started watching last week and I’m hooked. I doubt you will see this but, i have a car recommendation for you. It is a 1/10 scale monster truck it is called the pro line pro mt 4x4 it is a roller but it comes stock with badlands and a pro line body. I think you will like this truck because you can fit a 1/8 scale motor in it.
Glad I watched. My stock esc is acting goofy. Was giving me a low voltage light. Batteries were fresh. Checked the cells and all look decent. I was torn between the max5 and max6

Great advice because I just blew my Traxxas 8's ESC tonight I think. it has the temp light on and the motor has nothing was running in snow max 6 here we come
I figured out how they want you to program the esc. After turning on the esc and holding the set button, and the red led starts flashing, release the set button. Now push the set button where the transmitter is at neutral, this sets the neutral point. Then press the set button while holding full throttle, this sets the full throttle point. Finally, press the set button while holding full reverse/brake, this sets the reverse/brake point. If this is too confusing, let me know, this hobby is all about putting a huge smile on your face and helping fellow bashers or racers out. Feel free to share with anyone who is confused on how to program hobbywing esc units.
That esc is a beast last 2 years that’s epic. My slash ultimate velinion esc lasted 5 months. I think it got water damage cause I used to blast it with water and then when it heated up steam would come out.
Hey kev if the Traxxas constant velocity drive shafts you put on the slash 4x4 don’t work, you can get the Mip X duty ones the only thing you have to do is clean them every once and while because they will rust but they are awesome, mine for my Slash 4x4 are supposed to be here today so I’ll let you know how they fit 👍🏻
Did you check the lipo cut off and where it is set ? Ive also had issues with escs doing that of the power switch is funky dust and dirt eventually gets in and wears the switch contacts .
Do you own any Arrma rc's? Just curious cause I thought they were based in the UK. I did the switch and absolutely love them. Arrma Outcast is one of the best rc ever built in my opinion.
I find that the QS8 plugs work better. xt60 rated at 60amps and the xt90 are rated at 90 amps the max 6 draws 200amps max 5 150 amps the qs8 plugs are rated at 300amps.
What do you think about the underhanded tactics of Traxxas by taking out smaller companies that are putting out decent priced comp for the beginners Kev?
Can you do a install of a new motor and esc into the trx4. I want to upgrade my motor in the future and have never done a install. maybe show some motor options. Thanks

Iv got the max 6 in my kraton 6s and it’s just randomly died on me, flashing red light, no power to motor or servo, going to have a look at it and see if I have the same issue, ordered the BLX185 for it as recommended for reliability reasons so hopefully I can get the max 6 to work and keep the BLX185 as spare

I'd like to ask what amp ESC I'd need to run a 6s LiPo? I'm running a Etronix photon 2.1 2950kv brushless motor and came with a 45a. Runs a 3s Lipo 5000mah but iwant to run 6s? I doubt a max 6 will fit without changing the motor I just bought.
Can't be bad as Castle Mamba Monster series.I bought a Mamba Monster 2 and Mamba Monster x esc and motor combos.I used the Mamba Monster 2 and it failed after a month,then I used the Mamba Monster x and it failed after a week.Very bad experience with Castle ESCs.The 2200kv motors are reliable but Castle ESCs although very powerful are very failure prone.

Guys. If you are running a max6 and the fan breaks as mine did, a BLX185 ESC as the exact same fan on it as do other 150a remodeled hobbywing esc's 👍 After searching the net for a replacement for the 35x 35x 10mm fan @ 5 - 7.4v, 10500rpm or higher I came across a forum that suggested to steal one out of the blx185. They're not easy to source locally in GB. America and China seems to be the only place you can buy them. Hope this helps 🙂✌

It is not about your esc. It may be damaged a bit but those cheap flour eon batteries you're using are very poor quality and they can't deliver as much amps as they are ratet for. So the voltage drops and your ESC limits the Power to prevent the battery from over discharging. I had the same problem in a smaller vehicle and a better battery solved it (go for known brands as gens ace, Hacker or Yuki lipos) also make sure, that your battery can deliver about 50% more amps than the ESC needs to give them a less painful life and make them last longer. I dont know what dose mean did esc cut the voltage in 3.4 or 3.7.. I lost tow battery and got puffy. Waiting ur reply brother
The Max 6 is the better ESC. I run a Max6 in a basher truggy(think Kraton 6S) with a TP Power 4070CM 1650KV. It's going on it's third year and I have run mostly 8S. Only ESC I would replace it with that fits in the same space would be an MGM.
@@jamesandonian7829 actually have a Max 8 in it and it's way more than enough! Very happy with the max 8 combo in the UDR I see no need to run 8's in this vehicle. I run mine and its natural environment not on the street or at skateparks

did you think that one of the wires is lose on the switch and when you accelerate hard and break hard it moves it out and in
I had the same problem with my Max5, I added a glitch buster and a rebind of my system and it fixed the issue. $7.00 US.
Can you expand on that? I have same issue with my max5 esc. What is glicth buster and how to add it? Is this the same as cap pack?

New to the electric cars. Coming from nitros. I can not find any good installs of a good motor system for the trx4. No good ones any way.
Are you going to try to warranty that old Max6, or do you just decide it's not worth your time chasing warranties or discounts for the replacement?

Try putting an extra set of capacitors on the battery leads
I know this was 4 years ago but I fixed this problem on mine with a new switch! Solder a new one on.

Have you tested the GoolRC 150A esc, it looks like a copy of Hobbywing MAX?

Happened to my esc today. Max8 would go then quit. You could hear it beeping once it lost power😢

by the way I got a few esc's also a Hobbywing one and I mostly directly screw them to the vehicle and hav never broken one due to impact damage
How's the LVC setup? Does it turn off when the voltage is low or just slows down but allows the lipo to drain.

why use hot glue when it could just re-melt under the extreme heat? or block air flow to cool the major components?

I blew the bec in a max 5 within 6 months all I had changed was the bec voltage to 7.4 and after getting a new max 5 then the motor went within a week
