There is no PAUSE button! With TrackIR you can assign a button to pause exactly where you are looking-for example, zoomed in on the switch console or the GPS-then unpause when you are done. Hugely useful. Apparently there is no such ability to do this with Tobii in MSFS! And no, “toggle head tracking” doesn’t work, it just recenters the default cockpit view and then pauses tracking. So if you wanted to concentrate on a small area of the panel, you are SOL. From a quick search it looks like this has been requested for at least a couple of years. This is a big shortcoming. Was really enjoying it until I discovered this. If my info is out of date, please let me know…
lol, i ordered tobi once to compare it with my webcam + beam eye tracker ... well, of course i sent it back, bc it does the same, but costs more than the tripple of my setup 😄 nice video ...
Tobii 5 is great for flight sim! It does need some work on the default MSFS implementation, though. I've had stability issues with my unit. The work around I found was to use it with facetracknoir. It's also great for racing and truck sims.
I agree that facetracknoir is the better software solution. The big seller to me was when you paused it would continue to hold your current view like trakir5 did. With the default software it always reverts back to your "home view" which is a pain. Otherwise great product!!
I have the Tobii eye tracker 5 and I found that I have a love hate relationship with it. I like it but truth of the matter is I don't use it more than I do use it. I use it mostly in GA flying, as for using it in the pattern it is awesome for that. I would also agree that it is very easy to setup and calibrate, it pretty much is plug and play. I personally think more people are not using it because it is a little on the pricey side. Tobii did not send me mine, I bought mine with my own money and can say it is a little on the expensive side. Now with all that said I do not regret buying it because it does have it place in my sim. P.S. The wireless and no head equipment is also an awesome plus to the Tobii Eyetracker.
For that price your better off with a quest3 VR is ultimate immersion, even with my 55in monitor VR is where it’s heading. I sit completely inside the cockpit and am surrounded by the aircraft, the sense of scale feels real, when I taxi up to a 737 it looks and feels as big as the real thing. When I try to use the monitor it feels like I’m watching a video of someone else flying, I’ve had VRfor 2 years with the reverb G2 and I will never go back to flat screens ever, if you want to really feel like your flying get into VR,especially now that the quest 3 is close to the same price as this eyetracker, and I did have eye trackers for years before going VR. Love your videos but can’t see the sense in spending the equivalent of a great VR headset. Cheers
Problem is, you can't see your physical environment. I rely a lot on my yoke and throttle buttons, iPad for charts, etc. This is the best of both worlds.
I have the Quest 3 and the Reverb G2, your are right VR is the best experience, but you are not going to achieve the best graphics setting in VR. I find I enjoy MSFS better with max graphics and fluid frames in 2D. The Tobii is not a subsitute for VR but a level of immersion that doesnt require wires or wearing something on your head or face.
i always had a hard time with the cockpit camera and after watching this video i ended up ordering one og these and so far its great! i only play it casually but im having fun learning what all the buttons do.
Im considering it for use with 2 screens but only 1 of them is for sim. My laptop screen is for things like charts, maps and other s/w. I want to know if Tobi can be calibrated to my external monitor (big screen tv).
I have the Tobii and Trackir. It’s a neat concept no doubt. Flying airliners it is very jittery looking up at the overhead panel. Hopefully the new Alpha software they have gets better to address these issues. In my opinion at the moment Trackir is way more smoother and accurate than Tobii. I will definitely check it out again at some point to see if any updates have been added
To me the key with the tubes is using views. I have one set up for the overhead panel binded to my 1 key for every big plane I fly. Just one tap and it’s square in the center of the screen. The TrackIR has the same issue in free look to get overheads square and centered, so I set the panel view and done. Thanks for commenting!
Hi ! Great video as always ! You're a very good technical demonstrator (if these words make any sense... I'm not a native english speaker, sorry) and I think your work is very helpfull to the community. I always wondered if the Tobii tracker had more latency than IR trackers, or if it had any impact on the sim framerate, considering it's making video computation to work (if I got it right) ?
Hi! Your English is fantastic! No noticeable impact at all on frame rates. The sim performs exactly the same. As for latency, it’s not 100% compared to an IR tracker with LED, but 99.9%. It is excellent. I’ve used an IR tracker for 12 years and I have switched to the Tobii. It is so much more convenient and simple to use. Thank you for watching!
I am having issues with my Tobii Eye Tracker in MSFS. I can set the sensitivities really high and still the view will kind of jerk as I am just looking straight ahead while flying. I am not sure how to describe it, but it is like my head is going straight up and sown in a swift jerky motion here and there, so sadly since I cannot figure it out, I just do not use it in MSFS. In Star Citizen, a space game that is 10 years in alpha it works perfectly smooth, I just do not get it. Update: I got it now I think, I was trying to be conservative with the dead zone (center stabilization) so I cranked it up to 75% and it got better, so I went to 1 and it is perfect for me. I also would move to the side when looking to the left and go into the window or door frame, so I turned the position down to 1.50 and that lets me swivel precisely when looking to the side without any sideways motion. Other than those two I have it all like yours and it works. I did change the eye tracking ratio/responsiveness to 90%/50% like yours and it smoothed it out for me also. Thank you.
I think the most important difference between the tobii eye tracker and trackIR is the fact that you can fly wireless with tobii. I am still using trackIR cause I also have a wired headset. And with this wire I attached also the wire of the clip. As soon as I would change my headset to wireless I would also change to tobii. I wonder a bit about the performance consumption f tobii. The performance consumption of TrackIR nearly cannot be „felt“.
I use a sun visor which is very light and doesn't cover the head. So light and confortable in fact, that I forget I have it on sometimes. I greeted some friends the other day and only realised I had it on when someone asked what's the antennas for.
Sounds like a nice product to replace my TrackIR5, but since a lot of content creators did a review of Tobii, offering a 15% discount, I can’t help feeling there is a Tobii eye tracker 6 coming soon.
I bought Track IR 5 pro literally two hours before your video, can you do a side by side of both. I am seeing reviews all over the place and some say one is better than the other. I can’t decide which way to go,,,thanks,
You can do that with this as well. I use the views more with Tobii. For straight VFR the TrackIR is hard to beat, but there is simply nothing better than being completely wireless.
Thank for the video. But it doesn’t detect moving the head closer to the instruments, or am I wrong? The track ir did a great job with zooming onto instruments.
Hi all. I'm wondering, I use my laptop (in front of me, very slightly off to the right) and my flight sim goes to my big screen tv (more but only slightly off to my left and further away). I would probably mount the eye tracker to the lower part of my laptop screen, right? Can this work? I assume I would mostly use head tracking. I would only use a small amount of eye tracking. But can Tobi track my eyes while looking at my big screen if I calibrate it while looking at my big screen? Can the eye setup calibration be done going to the big screen so it can calibrate to my big screen? Or will this just not work at all? Also, I hear they have a small tripod you can get for it. Maybe it could be mounted in the visual space between the two monitors?
When you pause head tracking does it pause where your looking or does it go to a forward looking view? I like to be able to lean in to look at something like the fcu and freeze the view.
You can't pause on what you're looking at unfortunately. I mentioned this to the Tobii people and they said they would look into it. To me it's essential.
@@IslandSimPilot It does, so I have a mouse & key board and Yoke I can use. But if there is software to be installed, if it's not in the marketplace, we don't get to use it.

It's not as easy as they claim, and the instructions are not clear. I can bind my controls in my Turtle beach yoke, and it works better than the eye tracker. I did a review and did not take any promotion. Use the money for upgrading other parts of your system.
What’s the latency like compared to your current head tracker? Some people have gone back to their existing head tracker because there’s too much delay.
Is there a difference? Yes. But it’s nothing that would bother you. I’ve used TrackIR for 12+ years and as I’ve said many times, I literally wouldn’t flight sim without it. Well, I’ve replaced it with the Tobii. Once you go completely wireless you just cannot go back. The latency is infinitesimal. It’s there, but it doesn’t detract from your enjoyment of the sim. It’s an awesome device.
