I would have sent that back and asked for what I had paid for. The rest of the meal looked terrible too, but if punters keep paying silly money for rubbish like that they will continue to do it. Shameful behaviour from the restaurant. But there is an element of 'caveat emptor' too. If you are reviewing steaks, maybe do a bit of research into what they actually look like. Google is your friend.

Beyond medium it is ruined because of the lack of any fat in the meat. Sadly, so many people (Lee included) know so little about the food they are eating that they waste their money. It was very obvious that the steak wasn't actually fillet at all. It was a tourist rip-off joint that deserves to be shut down.

They also illegally added the 7% IGIC on after the menu price, it MUST be included in the menu price. The OCU and the government issued a warning to businesses last year about that and about a dozen other things that are charged for yet can't legally be done. Terrible practice, netting them 7% extra on each sale. Even if it says it isn't included on the menu, it is not legal
That is true. Exactly the same in the UK where VAT has to be included by law. Sadly, the automatic addition of a service charge has not been made illegal here yet.
Dont ever believe they cook the lobster you choose.There is another tank in the kitchen. They put the lobster in the other tank until you leave then put it back in the display tank and give you a frozen Loch Fyne Scottish Farmed Lobster.
I think Gordon Ramsey had the right idea when he said if a menu is the size of a small book you have no hope of getting a decent meal in the establishment ! As for what you were served initially it looked good on the plate but from your reaction to it being cold etc you should have sent it back and demanded a fresh meal !
You absolutely should have sent it back. A pile of coleslaw, lukewarm soggy chips, a butterflied fillet steak which didn't impress you, and cold pepper sauce. Under no circumstances should you accept this.
When it comes to how you have your steak cooked - different people like it different ways. Accept the difference and embrace your preference. The only “wrong” when it comes to a steak is when it claims to be a fillet (or any other cut) when it’s clearly a folded sirloin, the way they did in this video, plus cold chips and sauce is unacceptable.

If they serve a warm steak, cold sauce and cold fries, I lose interest. The steak may be the consolation price where everything else is bottom rung of the ladder, it just can't help it up to the top. South Africa used to be a great place for good quality steaks at reasonable prices but it's changed so much in recent years, those steak houses that have survived used to do burgers for the not so hungry but that's reversed now, they're now burger joints where you can still get a steak, but it will be exorbitantly priced and rubbish quality, you'll basically get the same cheap stuff that they mince up for burgers. There's no point complaining about it because they've got nothing better to offer you, so you just don't go there again. Regarding well done vs rare, I had a mate come over from England for a few weeks back in the "good steak" times and he ordered the same 600g rump serving as me except his was well done and mine was rare, and when it showed up on the plates his was half the size of mine which rather upset him so he complained to the waiter who explained that they both started out the same size but all the juices had been cooked out of his one. So, next time we went there he ordered his the same as mine, absolutely loved it and has probably never had a well done steak again. Fillet is often bland and uninteresting, I find the best preparation for that stuff is to cube it and marinate it overnight, slide the cubes onto skewers and sizzle them well basted with the leftover marinade over hot coals for a few minutes, the steak houses used to offer it like that too but ask for that now and they don't know what you're talking about.
When I was in Australia in 2019 I had a BBQ on a Cattle Ranch and the item on the BBQ of cause was Steaks. One guy on the ranch stated that if you go to a steak restaurant and they handle you a steak knife the steak would be tough. The steak he dished up was very tasty and tender and you could cut it with a spoon, it was the best steak I have ever had and not found a steak like that since.
Fillet is all about being tender rather than flavour, from my experience. Difficult to beat a fatty ribeye for flavour for me. Ribeye and chips for me right now 😁I'm confident my chips will look better than they served you, they looked a tad "wilty". No beer for me though, just water, and my view is dingy, wet and pretty cold too

They look soggy like they have been laying around for some time. Same happens to fries on a buffet. Fries need to come fresh out of the oil with a slightly crispy crust and softer inner. The side dish is subjective and wouldn’t be my choice either but propably a cheap one. The peppersauce had the layer on it as it was heated (too long) in the microwave.
You know Lee, this is not you're Porsche, you don't lose value by sending it back. Why would you tolerate cold chips, cold bland steak and cold peppercorn sauce? We don't need you to be a masochist, just send it back. It would add another dimension to the review to see if they could correct their mistakes and also to see if they attempt to compensate you somehow for sending unsatisfactory food. Maybe a discount on your bill or free dessert?

Sorry but anyone who knows about steak knows you don’t have fillet steak more than med rare or it’s tasteless there is no fat in fillet so no flavour as for melt in your mouth well it was you that ordered leather can’t blame the “cook” he even had to slice through middle to cook it the way you wanted I know some chefs who would refuse to cook it like that how can you critic food when you have no idea about food? Watch food revue club give you an idea 🙂

I was worried about how big the menu was - that is rarely a good sign IMO. I prefer restaurants that have a smaller menu that focus on doing fewer items really well. Didn't look like a fillet steak - suspect it was a cheaper cut folded over to make it look like a fillet. Re lemonade in your beer, how you cook your steak, pineapple on pizzas and so on... have it how you want it
Lee come on how many Fillets have you eaten especially in the States,that was not a Fillet more like a Sirloin pressed in half. And in my opinion anyone who eats a fillet med well and upwards is throwing money down the drain you might as well just order a Rump. For someone who spends so much time in reefy you don’t pick some rubbish food spots. We stay in fanabe twice a year and there is some fantastic food for all budgets. If you go down onto the bottom level there’s otello 2 which serves fantastic garlic chicken and fish, there’s the seahorse which is my favourite on the island and across from the new ale hop is the moon restaurant

Don't you want your food to be served correctly so you can enjoy how it should be served? Steak looked reasonably tasty, and cooked to order. But was a boneless sirloin, folded to make it look like a fillet steak. Cold chips no excuse. Slaw ok, price a bit high.. Sauce should be included in steak price. A pretty ordinary steak meal. 6/10.
Ohh dear Lee, not the best meal you have had, and for a meh steak and cold chips at this price you expect better. If this meal had been in the UK it would have made sense, but this time it looks like Tenergrief is trying to make you feel at home. Come back to the UK and go to a good place that you have tried before.
4.9/10 is far to generous for that meal, because I don’t think it deserves more than 3/10. Did they ask you if everything was okay (which any restaurant should ask), and if so what did you say because I think it’s important to me how a restaurant deals with a disappointed customer?
I think you missed a trick. Its Christmas and your in the sunshine. People want to see Christmas decorations and maybe abit of snow. You should go somewhere more Christmasy next year at this time of year 🎄

I'd have sent it back in seconds. Butterflying a steak normally means taking a small, thick meat, splitting it and batting it out to make it bigger on the plate.
Bit of a dead loss there. I can't talk, I can cook pretty well (I won't starve) but that steak came out better than I can fry one up. The last time I managed to serve up a decent steak was for my dogs Birthday, about 2010. We both had a special treat on his Birthday.
I'd tell you a couple of good steakhouses in Tenerife but ever since I saw you slate In 'n' Out Burger - I know good food is wasted on you. That steak you had was bad, as are your food reviews.

good friend of mine is also my local butcher, he has awards for all his meat and says anything thats been aged for more than 20 days is past its prime, when people say it tastes of game he says no its going bad and why would you want beef that tastes like something else!
Oh dear Lee what happened here. A fillet steak that had been “butterflied” nothing worse. Ok medium to medium well although personally I would have had “ blue” with fillet, personally choice. The chips looked awful and like you said stone cold. The whole place actually looked derived of any activity or interest. Maybe the locals already know what it is like. Perhaps one to avoid in the future.
For that price you would expect quality like Miller & Carter. I like steak medium well, but that seemed a bit undercooked for that. Cold sauce and chips, very disappointing.

For someone who spends so much time in reefy you don’t pick some rubbish food spots. We stay in fanabe twice a year and there is some fantastic food for all budgets. If you go down onto the bottom level there’s otello 2 which serves fantastic garlic chicken and fish, there’s the seahorse which is my favourite on the island and across from the new ale hop is the moon restaurant

@@TheMacMaster that answer doesn't make sense. You weren't just reviewing the flavor of the food or the quality or lack there of, of service, you were eating food because you were hungry. Don't you want your food to be served correctly so you can enjoy how it should be served? If you were reviewing hotel rooms and the room was too cold or too hot or the water in the shower was too cold or too hot, would you tolerate it just because you're reviewing it? Your argument doesn't make sense.

Fries are pre cooked you can tell by the colour and they should be crispy which they weren't.

Steak looked reasonably tasty, and cooked to order. But was a boneless sirloin, folded to make it look like a fillet steak. Cold chips no excuse. Slaw ok, price a bit high.. Sauce should be included in steak price. A pretty ordinary steak meal. 6/10.
I wouldn't give it a 6 after they passed off a cheaper cut as fillet. Instant 0/10.

I would say underseasoned steak. Cold chips no no coleslaw looked poor. Not a silly price but worth only 6.

4.9/10 is far to generous for that meal, because I don’t think it deserves more than 3/10. Did they ask you if everything was okay (which any restaurant should ask), and if so what did you say because I think it’s important to me how a restaurant deals with a disappointed customer?

It was folded over to fool the customer into thinking it was fillet, not the cheaper cut they gave him.

It’s called butterflied lee, they do this when the steak is as thick and it’s cooked over medium.

I think you missed a trick. Its Christmas and your in the sunshine. People want to see Christmas decorations and maybe abit of snow. You should go somewhere more Christmasy next year at this time of year 🎄

I'd have sent it back in seconds. Butterflying a steak normally means taking a small, thick meat, splitting it and batting it out to make it bigger on the plate.
Surprising they don't sous vide, then flash fry over the coals.
Bit of a dead loss there. I can't talk, I can cook pretty well (I won't starve) but that steak came out better than I can fry one up.
The last time I managed to serve up a decent steak was for my dogs Birthday, about 2010. We both had a special treat on his Birthday.
A chef I know told me some steaks are pumped with water!! the meat is softened but looses taste.
I'd tell you a couple of good steakhouses in Tenerife but ever since I saw you slate In 'n' Out Burger - I know good food is wasted on you. That steak you had was bad, as are your food reviews.
Good steak in Tenerife is hard to find but quality lamb is near impossible

I had a T-Bone last week at Valencia’s next to Puerto Colon was huge and was decent..definitely worth a try 👍🏼
good friend of mine is also my local butcher, he has awards for all his meat and says anything thats been aged for more than 20 days is past its prime, when people say it tastes of game he says no its going bad and why would you want beef that tastes like something else!
Oh dear Lee what happened here. A fillet steak that had been “butterflied” nothing worse. Ok medium to medium well although personally I would have had “ blue” with fillet, personally choice. The chips looked awful and like you said stone cold. The whole place actually looked derived of any activity or interest. Maybe the locals already know what it is like. Perhaps one to avoid in the future.

For that price you would expect quality like Miller & Carter. I like steak medium well, but that seemed a bit undercooked for that. Cold sauce and chips, very disappointing.
