Love your video Lee. I stayed there back in February and expected the worst. My room was 678. It wasn't that bad. Clean but simple. TBH - I was visiting from Mainland China. Having lived there for almost a decade, my tolerance for certain things have certainly been affected.

Shameful how such a grand building is being left neglected. No wonder Britannia have been voted worst hotel chain 11 years in a row and it looks like they may win that award again for the 12th time!
Also, £25 for WiFi is absolutely criminal!

Good day Lee! Wow such a spectacular building! Faded glory, so sad needs basic care, and mostly investment. It crys out for care and investment! The bleach is to disguise the other objectionable odors, the P's pee, poo, puke. What is wrong with the owners? Such potential!

@@nicoefc why force the owners when the council were bankrupt under another Labour leader? Its a private enterprise. Fill it full of illegals and a government grant, sorted. Look at the Britannia Hotel in Blackpool the Metropole!

I know exactly what you mean about the BLEACH OVER FUSTY Stench Britannia experience! I stayed at the Britannia Country Hotel, in Didsbury Manchester. The smell was overwhelming. They had a swimming pool next to reception and the pool a/c didn't work or was switched off to save money, who can say, but the result was the lobby, lounge and stairs stank of chlorine and what I would call an underlying 'warm'-dampness. The humidity from the pool was such that all the pictures hanging on the wall in the stairwell had running water on their insides!
The grounds must once have been nice but were crammed with a sea of cars as they let put the grounds to airport 'parking companies. Every former lawn covered and broken mirrors and knocks seemed common. I checked out ASAP. Absolutely vile.
Sadly this seems the Britannia mode and so long as they keep making huge profits they don't care. No idea of their nationality but suspect 'Britannia' is a stretch of they would show more respect for these once prestigious hotels and at least have the decency to sell them to a company who will.

Stayed there a few years ago on the marble corridor rooms 1st or 2nd floor, big rooms yes a bit tired but comfy, the food for breakfast and evening meal was no Michelin star but still very nice. For the price you can't stay in a tent in the middle of a field nowadays.

Hi Lee great video, some public areas in hotel are beautiful look at but seems go up towards&into your room carpets&smell bleach overpowering.
Should asked for another room hotel needs serious renovation I personally wouldn’t stay in that hotel for free not very appealing from the outside.
Next time come to Liverpool try Liner Hotel back lime street train station should have better experience there but did well staying there for the night especially with bleach smell in your room.
Weird looking at my home city on video,I go that way 5 days a week on my way to work at Port Of Liverpool Building at Pier Head.
You can go into that building through any entrances during the day take photos by security reception don’t think film in there enjoyed your vlog👍

Like all Britannia hotels, magnificent buildings but as a budget hotel they can’t renovate all the rooms at once. You’ll probably find the first 2 floors totally immaculate. The work program is huge and will take time. I’m not defending them, I’m just trying to see it from a different perspective.

Stunning building suffering from drastic underfunding and circumstances of modern people. I'm sure 50-60-70 years ago people would treat the building with alot more respect and theirfore the price would be higher which would pay in turn for more staff and better upkeep. Everyone wants a room for under £100 per night and this drives the company to cut corners and operate on skeleton crews.

Well Mr Macmaster you should read a bit about the history of that place Charles Dickens the writer liked to stop there and Winston Churchill like to stay also. I think a lot these old hotels have just had there day and need a fortune spending on them but it's just not viable as the price they would need to charge wouldn't attract enough customers. Oh and one last thing Cilla Black had her wedding reception there back in 1969 so there you go.

I stayed at the Adelphi in December last year. I arrived as an emergency at 9.00 at night as my booked accommodation did not work out and I booked it at the last minute and got a taxi there. I thought it was OK. I had a single room that was a bit draughty but quite comfortable and the breakfast the following morning was fine. It was cheap and in a lovely central position especially as I was returning home from Lime Street Station. Yes, it was a little run down but I would stay there again if I needed a cheap hotel.

  • @domahern1046
    @domahern1046 3 месяца назад +8

A fair conclusion at the end. Like others have said, the place seems to sum up the present state of the UK. Beautiful but under invested for decades and then bought out by a millionaire and run into the ground. What on earth is going on with the housekeeping and basic maintenance? A lot of cheaper hotels seem to have the same dank musty damp smell probably from leaking shower cubicles and bathrooms. Looks like that room had a basic makeover 10-15 years ago but was never maintained fully after.

I would however like to nominate the Britannia Airport Hotel Manchester as being worse than the Adelphi. I stayed there 8 years ago when I got back from NZ (I knew nobody in Manchester and had 2 cats with me), it was full of asylum seekers and it was effing awful. I have never been inside the building, but I remember as a kid watching all the Rolls Royce cars lining up in front of the main doors. The man in his uniform outside greeting the clients and calling for the Trolleys to take the lugage in. You would wait under Dick opposite, hoping to catch site of one of the stars going in or out. It's a bloody shame, how dirty and delapidated it looks now. How can a hotel chain hope to run a business, and hold up a reputation when they are serving up such a horrible experience. Yes £50 a night is cheep in this day and age, but they could still make it clean. Of course they have to deal with the Pigs that make the mess in the first place. As you say Lee, "Shame on you Britannia".

It was at their last Christmas dinner there that the late great Ken Dodd stood up to give us a few after dinner words. “ some people knock the Adelphi “ he said, “ but I won’t. “ “ I’ve just walked through the kitchens and I didn’t see a single blue bottle…… they were all married with kids “ ! Good Evening Lee. This has got to be the Typical Victorian Hotel with lots of Oppulence and Splendour in it's day. But, sadly like most Hotels of this Period, No Money and No Big Investment has been spent on Up-dating, Re-decoration of the Rooms, all of the Carpets needing to be replaced, just a really Good lick of paint all over and Probably have a Professional Cleaning Company come in and Clean, Vacuum and a Good Dusting of the Hotels Furniture and it's Window's need a Thorough Clean. If they did all of that to the Britannia Adelphi Hotel and brought in a few Hotel Reviewers after that, I am sure this Beautiful Hotel would be given another Star or two. Really Good Investment and a new set of eyes to bring this Hotel up to date and a Pleasant Establishment to stay at and Enjoy Yourself. It is such an Incredible Building and it has lots of History inside it. Thank you very much Lee.

I did tell you lee what it was like. The Liverpool echo have been trying for ages to get this hotel closed. The taxi drivers try to avoid it at all costs. Plenty of decent places to eat nearby.

hi lee my experience staying at the adelphi in liverpool was amazing and first class the only thing is that was 25 years ago it was the place to stay.what a pity to see how it has certainly gone down in reputation and service i think this is too great for even brittania hotels to get back to some sort of resemblance to what it was which is a real shame

That tartan mattress and that bathroom🤮😷. Come back premier Inn all is forgiven 😂. It's a shame to let this beautiful hotel get in that condition. But for £42 a night I would be pleased to lay my head down on a cold rainy night in the warm.

It used to be a 5 star hotel years ago. All the bands and opera singers who played in Liverpool stayed there. Really sad to see the decline. Rich. Birkenhead.

Room lighting has been remarkably dim in every hotel I’ve stayed in (here in the United States) for several years. I need to bring efficient bright LED bulbs on trips.

You should stay at Skye Oceans Hotel in Blackpool Lee, the Adelphi looks like paradise compared to that dump!

The Lodge co-op Street in Blackpool is the worst place I've ever stopped at , and I'm not fussy, lol. I would love some RUclipsr to do a review on that B&B, but for £15 a night, including a cooked breakfast (2020) price. The location is top notch just off Chapel Street, the central Pier 🏴󠁧󠁢󠁥󠁮󠁧󠁿

Damn shame seeing the demise of this Liverpool institution, a place my Family often stayed in, when I was a kid, if we were visiting Nana & Grandad or when Dad was performing at the Empire…

This is the worst rated hotel in Europe? You have to be kidding. I've stayed in hotels across Europe many of which were absolute toilets. In fact, I'm not convinced some of them were not public toilets. This is absurd luxury compared to a really run down Paris hotel in a violent neighborhood. Even the UK can supply some truly terrible near drug den hotels far far far worse than this.

Why is there a wet floor sign in reception on a carpet ?
