    I was there 40 years ago today! We had to wait past midnight due to the building of the stage! But it was worth it! Public transport didn’t ride anymore after this concert but the taxi bus was filled with fans from all over Rotterdam! What a night! 3/4 of AꓭBA and the Everly Brothers!

    Their harmony was like NO other ever!!! That was probably why they
    got back together!! Although they said it wasn’t for monetary gain, they must have gotten the message that both singing individually would never equal them together!!! And, all it took was a Reunion Concert & recording a new album the following year!! They were able to tour 20+ yrs before retiring - probably early because of Phil’s COPD…which was a real shame!! Of course, they hand picked a fabulous band to be with them until they retired!! Albert Lee & others were terrific!!! They were lucky that their sound never got old to us “baby boomers” + others!! How great that must have been!!!❤️

    When you look up the word "talented" in the dictionary, you'll see a picture of the Everly Brothers. Great voices, great songwriting, great guitar playing (especially by Don Everly). Both are tenors. I would call Don a "Dramatic" Tenor & Phil a "Lyric" Tenor. Don could sing real high also, he just didn't "hang " up there as long as Phil. In addition Phil's voice was a bit lighter. They were perfect for each other. It was a "sibling" thing. lol

    The Everly Brothers are my cousins, for real. In the 70s, their genealogists came to my Grandparents asking our family history and said we were cousins. That music gene runs in our family, I have a 2nd cousin who could pick up any instrument and play without lessons, he moved to Nashville to become a star, he didn't. I used to sing in bands growing up. Love The Everly Brothers harmonies!

    They never sing anything new after their reunion. It’s always the oldies, no doubt great, but they don’t seem to collaborate any more. What a waste they split for TEN LONG YEARS. If they had not split, think of how many more wonderful songs they would have added. Even real brothers cannot stand to look at each other. What more the Beatles and other groups splitting.

    • @v-g-z3689
      @v-g-z3689 2 года назад

      I agree in part, the rarely sang newer songs after the reunion. But there are some recordings of Wings of a Nightingale, Born Yesterday and You make it seem so easy, as seen here. I´m sure there is more, just not here on youtube. However, I think their split did them good and they wouldn´t have been able to make such a roaring comeback in the 80´s without it. Don´t overlook their solo wirk in those 10 years apart, especially Phils!

      @@v-g-z3689 - Curiosity. And nostalgia. I have a theory (based on no professional expertise whatsoever) that the Tennessee-Kentucky (Appalachian) family culture (Dolly Parton, Loretta Lynn) honors a Biblical tradition of early marriage and stable, unshakable family ties. The boys came tumbling out of the country hills believing in true love forever as demonstrated by Ike and Margaret.
      But they were met with a bevy of star-struck, money-hungry, gold-diggers who magically dreamed of marrying both "Everly Brothers" at once and living happily ever after on fame and fortune. There is an unforgettable photo of Phil on his wedding day looking like a man going to the gallows. When we see him again, his wife is nonchalantly dragging a mink coat but Phil still looks grim. And when were the years that Don was "treated" with Ritalin-laced vitamins by JFK's "Dr. Feelgood"? When did Don make back-to-back suicide attempts while fighting addiction?
      Their first love songs are stories of idealized romance followed by shattering disappointments. ("Dream," "Cathy's Clown") By the early 1970's, there were simultaneous divorces and an artistic meltdown culminating in the 10-year break-up/breakdown and more unsuccessful marriages. The miracle is that they both survived their emotional pain and domestic turmoil to become lifelong musical icons. Or is that the typical Hollywood formula? I often wonder if the brothers would not have been happier marrying simple girls from the hill country, raising farm animals and children, and singing by the fire on Sunday evenings after church. But then we would never have heard of them, the world would have been deprived of their remarkable talents, and I wouldn't need a box of Kleenex every time I hear "The Words in Your Eyes."
