Don Everly, 84, passed away at his home in Nashville. He formed the legendary rock and roll duo The Everly Brothers with his brother Phil. Together they had worldwide hits in the late 50s and early 60s with "Bye bye love" and "All I have to do is dream". In 1984 on their comeback they scored the top10 hit "On the wings of a nightingale", written by Paul McCartney.
The Everly Brothers were an American country-influenced rock and roll duo, known for steel-string acoustic guitar playing and close harmony singing. Consisting of Isaac Donald "Don" Everly (born February 1, 1937 - August 21, 2021) and Phillip "Phil" Jason Everly (January 19, 1939 - January 3, 2014), the duo was raised in a musical family, first appearing on radio singing along with their father Ike Everly and mother Margaret Everly as "The Everly Family" in the 1940s. When the brothers were still in high school, they gained the attention of prominent Nashville musicians like Chet Atkins, who began to groom them for national attention.
They began writing and recording their own music in 1956, and their first hit song came in 1957, with "Bye Bye Love", written by Felice and Boudleaux Bryant. The song hit number 1 in the spring of 1957, and additional hits would follow through 1958, many of them written by the Bryants, including "Wake Up Little Susie", "All I Have to Do Is Dream", and "Problems". In 1960, they signed with the major label Warner Bros. Records and recorded "Cathy's Clown", written by the brothers themselves, which was their biggest selling single. The brothers enlisted in the United States Marine Corps Reserve in 1961, and their output dropped off, though additional hit singles continued through 1962, with "That's Old Fashioned (That's the Way Love Should Be)" being their last top-10 hit.
In October 1984 the Everly Brothers visited the Netherlands to headline the annual Dutch television show 'AVRO's Platengala'. Their single 'On The Wings Of A Nightingale' reached its highest position of #4 in the in the Dutch Top 10 on that very day, 13 October 1984. Their album 'EB'84' was on its way to the 6th position in the Album top 100 and achieved the gold status.
This performance was taped at the AVRO Platen Gala, 13 October 1984 recorded live in the Ahoy Hall, Rotterdam, The Netherlands.

There never were nor will there ever again be two voices with such perfect harmony as Phil and Don’s. Miss these guys so much.
I ADORED those two in the 1960's and I still play their music here in 2023!
Yes still listen them iw
I am eighty now, and can't listen to them without having to wipe my eyes.
In 1960, a friend and I performed three of their songs to an audience of about seven hundred in the southern part of the Netherlands, where I grew up.
Nobody could sing better together than the Everly Brothers. In addition, They had a great band & Don Everly was a great rhythm guitarist.
Don,t forget the BeeGees they were good too back in the 60s til 2022.

I love the songs of the Everly brothers, perfect harmony!.👍❤
I’m an old soul! I’m also 53! I grew up listening to my mom sing these songs while she ironed dad’s work shirts. Wow anyone still iron out there? Mom would have been 82 yo, but she passed earlier in the year. Man, I can’t stop crying. These two had the most beautiful harmonizing I think I’ve ever heard. Mom loved these two and so did I! Miss mom as I try to relive those great old days. Peace everyone.
Ilovethemboth😅
I iron every Sunday morning and I listen to the Everly brothers while I’m doing it 😢. I’m 62

Everly Brothers have the most romantic music! And the best vocals!
They filled my teens and my youth with their music in the sixties. Their songs are timeless, they don't grow old.
I'm rediscovering The Everly Brothers after learning their music and harmonizing influenced the Bee Gees in there career. What a big contribution to music were The Everly Brothers and The Bee Gees have been, they both are FANtastic.
Precisely!
Oh yes!!
The Everly brothers, the best!
Beautiful singers. God bless

These guys were the best, none to compare ❤❤
The most amazing thing I have discovered reading up about them is that their mother has outlived them both.
I wonder how old their mother is??? 🇬🇧🤗🤗

Wow
Really ?
She passed away Dec 2021 at age 102
Yes, she outlived her husband and her sons. That is heartbreaking.
They were two very different and distinct personalities❤️2022
They did not speak the last years of their lives. From what I've read they did not get along at all
The Sherman Brothers, Robert and Richard who wrote many memorable songs we all know and love did not get along either.
Unbelievable harmony from the late and great Don and Phil THE EVERLY Brothers. RIP play them on my internet radio show Classic Soul me the Masterblaster.
Cant help buuut sinng along with their music and remind me so much of our younger days. Good memoories x
I grew up in a convent in the 50's. Thank goodness for the Everly Bros. They kept us sane. Nancy, Palm Bay
There will never be another EVERLY BROTHERS 🎸🎸 . The music will live forever 👍👍Ma they Both R.I.P.
there will never be another quite like everly brothers!!! beautiful music
I'm not late in writing this. Even though it's been 20 days since Don Everly died. I've been very much moved; to say the least. I learned to enjoy The Everly Brothers in early 60s. Even then; as a youngster, I saw the immense talent and awesome beauty in their music. Rest in peace Don and Phil Everly. The magic you created and that lives in me WILL NEVER CEASE. We'll be in the same realm again. In due time. God bless you brothers.
To pass their mother((( so sad((
I have been following them They are so great & I and sorry for your loss((
I have loved the Everly Brothers since 1959 when I was 13 years old 🌹love all their songs 🌹🌺😜💕

My very long comment, just disappeared from the screen, disappeared!! So disappointed 😔. Not great at the typing, arthritic fingers, but , I will try again later!! Forgive me. Molly. From Ireland.
Molly, from Ireland again ( August, 2023!)my comment accidentally dis from the screen, few minutes ago, am an old lady 82years, but not too old to try again, later.❤
@@mollyoconnell527Thanks for posting Molly! Even if some of it flew away!
So sad to learn of Don s passing. I was privileged to meet Phil and Don after their concert at the Spektrum Oslo Norway on 24 July 2004 when they appeared with Simon and Garfunkel in concert. I had the greatest pleasure having seen them previously at the Royal Albert Hall London on September 23 1983. I had followed their music closely since my early days at Grammar School in England from 1957. Together with the Byrds and the Moody Blues they were my all time favourites and they will be sadly missed but their music lives on. A brilliant duo!
Copy and paste everywhere?
Wow that’s an awesome thing my friend I’ve never had the privilege to see them live but I loved them all my life.
Literally the greatest duet ever, and that's saying something.
They inspired so many great talents. Their songs of the fifties and sixties unforgettable. I met Don at a solo gig in Berkeley, Ca. He was a beautiful warm man, so down to earth, and still a monumental talent.
don&phil for ever in ours hearts
EB84 album is fabulous! My favourite song: On the Wings of a Nightingale starts here at 15.00 min. Never knew it was written by Paul McCartney!
R I P everly brothers, rock'n'roll legends!August 2021
Don is still living.
I'm 75 & also remember them. I loved listening to them. We had an old Victrola.. one of my favorite songs was Bird Dog. I saved my money to buy a 45 & one day my brother put in on the edges of the Victrola & slammed the top down.
They're love for music 🎶. 2023. Ty kindly appreciate the brothers. 💕
I am always a teenager again when I hear these two guys! R.I.P Don and Phil.

Phil and Don perked up my teen years Always enjoyed their singing together Perfect Harmony too bad young people don't have musicians like this! ❤💯👍😂😊❤❤
The Everlys’ producer for their LP ‘EB84, Dave Edmunds said: “They just look straight into each other’s eyes and sing. Then for twenty minutes you think this is not going to work or maybe this isn’t the right song, and then suddenly it clicks. It’s like they’re free-falling and suddenly their parachute opens, and when that happens, look out. You’ve never heard singing like it. They’re the best.
They’re natural singers, the only natural singers I’ve come across.
All the people I’ve worked with, and this includes myself, have learned the musical terms and how to do it but Don and Phil don’t work like that. It’s fascinating to see it. When they hit their stride it’s genius working. It’s two and two equals five and it’s wonderful when it happens.”
In another interview he said, “Don and Phil are intuitive singers. People like myself and others that I know in the business who sing...we learned how to do it; we learned how to hold a note, or to control a vibrato, or to count bars so you know when to come in. They never did - it’s all intuitive. Especially with Don - the solo bits he does. If you ask him to do them over and over again, they’ll be completely different each time.”
8k😅
PollyB Dec 2023 They were and are simply the BEST they’re sound will never die, love them always❤❤😊😊

If you're looking here for On The Wings Of A Nightingale, it's at 15:10. It's the best post-Beatles song McCartney ever wrote.

My favorite Phil Everly song is "Patiently." My favorite Don Everly song is "Sad to Watch Good Love Go Bad." Best Everly Brothers songs: "Why Worry," "You Make It Seem So Easy," and "On the Wings of a Nightingale." I may not have typed the titles correctly, but Everly fans know what I mean. I thank God that we have these videos to see over and over. RIP, dear Everly Brothers.
"Story of Me" and their version of "Don't Worry Baby" are good ones too from the later albums.
Yvonne you have a great list of songs I agree with you. I enjoy Follow the Sun, The Story of Me, Alone are great songs. The Everly Brothers are fantastic. I'm introducing their music to my Grand daughter and she enjoyed their music. Stay safe, healthy and happy.
Phil does an amazing job with "Yves". I love it.

I just turned 77 and still listening to the Everly Brothers now as I did in the late 50’s. There was a lull for me with type of music afterwards listening to them, but now I do, and brings back an era when things were different, simpler and fun.
Great!
