    Regarding DTS support on Blu-ray and UHD discs... the Sonos Arc supports multichannel LPCM audio. So if your TV is equipped with HDMI eARC or you have the HD Fury Arcana, you can set your Blu-ray or UHD player to convert DTS to PCM and you should get lossless multichannel PCM audio to play out of your Sonos Arc which sounds just as good as DTS-HD Master Audio.

      Some of the most popular high end bluray players like the Panasonic UB820 / 9000 can't actually output LPCM to some of the most popular high end TV's like the LGC9 / CX due to a HDMI handshake issue. The best you can get out of these is Stereo PCM which is then passed though to the ARC. The HD-Fury Arcana is a band aid for this issue be it a $200 band aid. Hopefully the manufacturers of these devices can somehow correct this issue, or better yet Sonos can support DTS.

      @@smarthomesounds thank you i really apreciate it i have been with this doubt since the first time i have the sonos arc when i realize that i cannot play atmos bec my tv doesnt support it and some say that hd fury arcan can solve it but im not sure if it will function in only native apps like netflix directly to the tv without using a external box like apple tv thank you so much

      @@juanvalera7272 The HD Fury Arcana will only allow external media devices to bypass your TV's audio limitations. So if you cannot get Atmos from your TV's native Netflix app now, you will still not be able to get it with the Arcana. But the Arcana works great with the Sonos Arc. I am using an Apple TV 4K, Roku Ultra, and Panasonic UB820 UHD player and I can get Dolby Atmos from all three devices because of the Arcana. And my Panasonic Plasma is 8 years old.

    Another very informative and well answered video - thank you for that 1 -- I would like to add my thoughts and my experience with Sonos - I started with just a sonos beam paired with my LG 55inch OLED and was very pleased - then upgraded and went to a 65 inch OLED . when the Arc was realised by sonos I waited to see the reviews , eventually took the plunge & purchased it since then I have slowly added the sub and last month the rears complete with the dedicated SONOS stands -the upgrade was definitely costly but in my opinion 100% totally worth it . starting with just the Arc and slowly building up got better and better , my advice would be , - try to Demo the full system and see for your self the difference from just the Arc to the whole system i'm sure it will blow you away .. just this weekend we watched outside the wire on Netflix -WOW the rain storm scene was amazing my while room literally filled with the sound of the pouring rain from every speaker while the dialogue was pin sharp.!! you really must see and hear this clip to fully appreciate just how good it sounded . ALSO i am using the Arc with Sky Q with NO lip sync issues at all .

      I'll definitely find that show and scene you're referring too.. unlike you I just dived right in and went the whole hog on the 5.1 sonos set up with the arc after watching the reviews from Jonathan. Absolutely agree whilst pricey well worth it. I'm excited about watching movies again.. just today I bought Hans Zimmer live in Prague, it's in atmos which I'm yet to upgrade the player and tv to, but as this moves down to 5.1 the sound is amazing, so clear and crispy. I swapped my old sky q box to the newer HDR box (£25 upgrade) no lip sync issues compared to the old one.
    Regarding bluray DTS you can output LPCM to arc and let the player do the decoding I believe.

    Had my Sonos Arc for 5months, been disappointing for me, I previously had a Samsung Q90r. Movies came alive with that soundbar, especially Atmos content. The ARC just sounds very underwhelming with a lot of content, can sound very tinny. Sonos need to release some upfiring rear speakers to give the ARC a bit help with the Atmos. I have a flat ceiling and have never heard any overhead effects.
    Also Sonos need to open up there app to let you control all the speaker sound levels, the amount of times I feel I need to up the centre channel to hear speech etc, even with speech enhancement on and truplayed.

    Great video, thanks for taking the time to produce it. I'm thinking of slowly upgrading to the Sonos Arc system, and I already have wired in-ceiling speakers. My questions is would I be better investing in the Sonos Amp and using the n-ceiling speakers or does the Sonos work better with the One SL's for the surrounds? And if the in-ceilings are better should I invest in the Sonos in-ceiling speakers or will the ones currently installed be good enough? I believe you can only use the auto-tune function if you have the Sonos speakers. Again, many thanks.

      Hello John, thank you for your comment and it's a great question. I wouldn't say the in-ceiling speakers necessarily do a better job than the One SLs but it is a slightly different experience as the sound is coming from above your head rather than at listening height. We tend to suggest just going for the One SLs as rears to save on the cost unless you really favour in-ceiling speakers for aesthetic purposes or if your sofa is in the middle of the room where finding space for speakers at the back may be difficult. Both do a great job though! Hope that helps

      Hi Stephan, great question. The in-wall speakers with Sonos Amp are a great option if you prefer the built in aesthetic but still want to achieve top quality sound. You get a really nice wide soundstage with the in-wall speakers as you have a dedicated left and right but do note, you won't be able to get Atmos through the Amp, it's a maximum of Dolby Digital. The Amp offers a phantom centre channel though and does a great job of mixing the left and right channels to create a centre. If you don't mind having a soundbar and want to benefit from the latest Atmos codec, then the Arc would probably be the better option. Hope that helps!

    • @smarthomesounds
      @smarthomesounds  3 года назад

      Hi there, great question. The Sonos stands feel a little more sturdy and well-built than other manufacturers and the difference with these is the speaker sits at the front of the pole rather than the middle of the pole, which we see in other manufacturers, so that comes down to personal taste. However, other brands like Flexson and Nova do it well and these are options on our site that we feel offer a floor-standing solution at a fraction of the Sonos prices.

    I’m confused why you didn’t sing about the newer Multi Channel PCM support that allows playback for DTS encoded discs? Firmware updates in November 2020 made it possible for E-ARC TV customers to run DTS encoded discs with full multi channel sound results. Personally I didn’t even have to change any settings but I am sure that part is manufacture and model dependent on each part of your signal chain. It’s like my 2020 Sony TV, 4K player and Sonos realise DTS is not possible, but multi channel PCM is and it just works automatically like magic and sounds really good too! No longer do my DTS discs play back in stereo. If the DTS disc is encoded in 7.1 the Sonos App tells me I am playing back in 7.1. Alternatively with DTS 5.1 the app will confirm I am playing back 5.1 sound. So the app might not label the sound play back as DTS but my ears tell me it sounds very good just like DTS 🙂 This development appears to benefit gamers too. See the link below to Reddit comments on the subject...

    Is it possible to discern a difference between the lossy DD+ Atmos using the ARC connection( supported by tvs that are a few years old) vs the lossless TrueHD atmos using the latest eARC connection(on new tvs only) with the sonos home theater setup? (E.g. sonos arc, sub, two sonos one SLs). In other words, if you are getting atmos via DD+ on your tv with an ARC connection, is it worth upgrading your TV to get uncompromised dolby atmos with eARC components on newer tvs?

    • @djt6546
      @djt6546 3 года назад

      Sound quality and is it worth it questions are something only you as an individual can determine. It can also be very much dependent on your own room/environment. But in my opinion, objectively speaking, the true lossless versions through my full Sonos cinema setup with rear Play:5/Fives and sub are a clear level up. The DD+ derivative sounds good as does any digital surround experience, but the lossless version of playback REALLY comes alive. It’s like moving from a good HiFi to a great HiFi. But as I said, different rooms and maybe even different E-ARC TV’s could yield different results. No need to rush the E-ARC expense, but if you are into the world of HiFi, I am sure you will give yourself a BIG smile when you do upgrade :-) Plus you will be able to get multi channel surround sound from DTS discs something which I will comment separately about in the comments, as for some reason they totally missed this important change for E-ARC customers...

      I think there’s definitely an improvement it’s difficult to explain but it’s just a much cleaner sound.
      If you only have an ARC TV I’d recommend a HD fury Arcana. It allows you to get lossless atmos without an eARC connection. I got one a few weeks ago and it works perfectly!

      Yes, the Arc has a Speech Enhancement feature so will enhance the vocals of the content you are watching. Very useful feature for that purpose!

    Hi. Loving your content on Sonos products, it's what led me to my current setup that totals 2 play 1, 2 play 5, one SL, one move, and an Arc. I do however have an incredibly annoying issue that neither Sonos nor Sony were able to find a solution for. I've paired my Arc with a Sony 65XH9077, and for the most part, it works excellent. There are however situations when I don't want to use the Arc but rather the TV's speakers, on account of actually being too loud at the lowest volume of 2. However, this is not possible. As soon as any content starts playing, the output is automatically switched back to the Arc, so unless I actually unplug the Arc from either HDMI or power outlet, I'm stuck with using it all the time. Sonos suggested I'd volume limit the Arc to about 65-70% so that volume goes lower, but I honestly feel that's not really a solution and I'd be really throwing away 30-35% of the product. Also having to use the mobile app for quiet mode is really not ideal, and really against the "no extra remote" concept of Sonos. Do you have any suggestions on how to "fix" this and be able to not use Arc without extra devices (such as a smartphone) or having to physically disconnect the Arc? Thank you!

      Hi Nikkolai, the HD Fury Arcana can be picked up from online retailers. Not many sell it so it's only 1 or 2 but they can definitely be found online if you search for it. I hope that helps.

      Hey mate, are you still having this issue? I was having it but seems a recent upgrade of either the app or arc fixed it for me. If you're still having the problem you can find the audio type in the app still you just have to navigate to settings > system > about my system and it show in the first bit of information if you scroll down a fraction.

      My friend has an arc and uses a pair of fives for his rears….along with two subs in his bedroom. He’s got one of them super duper LG CX OLED tvs too. He doesn’t have a huge room, Just a huge budget.
      The living room has B&W towers and center, my borrowed onkyo and sunfire xteq8, ATI 5ch and Sony projector. Makes Saturday night UFC fights more enjoyable.

    I have a vaulted ceiling and have done trueplay but to be honest Atmos is a waste of money especially if you look at how bad film producers are at adding the Atmos channel effects and ambiance. It would be nice if you could configured in ceiling speakers as Atmos channels and even better if Sonos actually created a set of wireless in ceiling speakers instead of the current solution.

      Yeah I think it’s quite gimmick like unless you have the perfect box room at home for the relevant sound reflections. That said, I find the lossless playback through E-ARC in a full Sonos cinema setup with rear Play:5/Fives and sub(s) absolutely awesome in terms of clarity and power. It just comes alive sooo much more to my ears, in my room at least. If you hear a great surround experience that makes you smile then you know you’re happy with your investment. Always go separates and spend the big bucks if you really want all the gimmicks working at a professional level. Have fun with your movies 🙂

    lmao can't support DTS because of licensing fees - jesus. Sonos should not consider their system home-theater oriented or theater driven as it can't support a blu-ray player nor DTS audio. That's going against a home-theater oriented system.
    we all know DTS has always had a higher bit-rate than Dolby since day one including DTS:X even if the audible difference is hard to discern between Atmos and DTS:X. Being a nerd, higher is better - take all that you can to make the best system.
