Thanks for quickly explaining that the different sources (TV, PS4, Switch, etc) will ALL work with the Arc using that single connection between the Arc and a TV. 👌🏻👍🏻 You’re the only RUclipsr I found so far that does tell that 😅
One of the best, no nonsense review that I have ever heard. One review and I subscribed.
I have to say - you're reviews are some of the best I've ever seen. Extremely comprehensive and helpful. Thank you very much!
Bought the Arc from you last week as your review was by far the best on RUclips. I don’t need bells and whistles from a review, just honest facts, so thank you!
Ordered and delivered in less than 24 hours!!
Product is outstanding. Clarity is on another level.
Thank you 🙏🏻
Wow, this is an incredibly in depth guide. Thanks Guys
Thank you for the in-depth review. It was very comprehensive, with a lot more details than in other reviews. Even additional comments about room size, or some limitations without an Apple device, etc. Very useful. I just hope that in 2021 they include some additional HDMI ports, as well as drop the price a bit too.
Excellent video. Informative, clear, and honest. Thanks for doing!
Hi I bought sonos arc, gen3,and 2x one sl. I felt I was paid too much £1856 +stand for sl and bracket for arc. But after I fixed and listened the sound OMG,, no word to describe. Clarity of the sound is something next level. Worth every single panny.
What do you mean by fixed?
Me too,at first i said the arc and sub is enough its expensive,so one day i bought 2 sonos one sl 40% discount and i love it even more😂😂 2 weeks ago i bought another sub😂😂 and im telling you i cant go back with a single sub😀one sub really sounds good, but with 2 subs its really really good.i saw sonos sub and playbar 12 years ago and last year at last i was able
To buy it..
Sticker shock for me as well, but my wife ok’d it so I ran with it😉
Great review, well covered. I have this complete system and am always amazed at how well it sounds. My friends on movie night are always blown away. Get it you won’t be disappointed!
Thank you, Jonathan, for the fantastic, instructional video!...Will add Sonos Arc to my new 77" A80J TV to be delivered tomorrow...Yippee!
Came across this channel as a RUclips recommendation and subscribed after seeing the review. Very nice detail and the style of the review is so good.
Thanks so much!
Hello guys. Great review. I have an arc and sub gen 3. I want to point out that even if your tv does not let atmos go through, the sound stage is so wide and good that you will not regret it.
so you gotta have a new, high end TV to let it "go through"? gotta have a Sony?
I have a sony bravia 2016 model, before in my sonos app i only get dolby digital plus but now in my sonos app it say DOLBY ATMOS,what i only did is updated my tv and after that now i have atmos in my sonos app.but ofcourse its not an atmos true hd,im not an expert but im sure its atmos dd+.My tv doesnt have earc port, only ARC port.
Fantastic review. Convinced me to buy one. Have subscribed based on the quality of this video alone
I’m an early adopter of Sonos, I’ve got a couple of Play.5’s at home in the Man Cave and a Connect hooked-up to simple Hi-Fi system at work. After watching this video, I’m definitely going to go this route at home to finally bring Home Cinema .. well .. home. Thank you 👍
God bless you trend setters!!
well done! very nice, informative, efficient review. thanks.
I’m so glad I got to see this video, I can’t wait to hook up my system in my new home, thanks for the awesome video 💪💪
Glad we could help!
just the video i need, thank you
Hi, my living space is constrained. Would you be able to comment how the ones sound if left on the flat hand rest of your couch
I put this system on shopping cart then waited few months. I was in dilemma- should I buy this? Should I spend this much money? Anyways, finally I bought this system few months ago. After experiencing the quality of sound- I regret why I didn’t buy it long before.. it changed my movie experience, listening to music everything. After a long working day- it’s the one of few things-I enjoy at home. It’s a piece of art. Incredible creation.
Great video! Loved the turntable too. Whats your set up for that turntable? Do you have any video talking about it?
I got mine 2 days ago and I had to leave my review. 1st off buy this bar. 0 regrets. I'm coming from the Definitive technology studio sound bar and I'll be honest that thing was subpar at best. Especially for that price. I got so fed up I drove to the store after putting up with it for 4 years and had enough. I looked at the highest end Sony, the bose and this one. My Sony rep even said don't buy the sony soundbar. She owned it and I went with her advice. Looked at bose but they didn't have it in stock. The Sonos barely in stock and I said well I'll give it a shot. Give me the bar and sub. Previous experience with WiFi and sound bars with def tech was not good. I was worried about these but the sonos app is intuitive, easy to use and updates went through no problem. It was so super easy to set up. My Sony A8h tv went through it's steps no problem and I love having ONE REMOTE now for everything. I'll adjust stuff through the app. I'm okay having to do that it's no problem. Overall even though it's been 2 days it's been 2 awesome days!
I have an ARC + Subwoofer + 2 x Play:5 (2nd gen) as surround speakers. Might seem a bit overkill, but it sounds amazing in movies and when just playing music. The total cost was about 3.000 euro but it's worth it when you like movies and music.
If I have 4 SL One speakers (and a Sonos beam) can I utilize all 4 speakers for surround sound or just the 2?
Great review thank you, definitely getting a set thanks a lot. Anyone knows where to get that wooden feature wall behind the tv? That’s neat.
bought this system for my home setup. ARC soundbar, gen3 sub, and the one SL's in the rears. it sounds amazing. I would not recommend this w/out the sub. I set it up with JUST the soundbar and it sounded ok, but bass was really weak. the gen3 sub delivers way more bass than I had expected. I was expecting "some" bass but not a ton - I was blown away - the Sonos sub will go super low and hits hard. it soudns like a much larger sub than it physically is. overall this is a great system. easy setup, easy placement as it's all wireless.
Hello, same here.first want to congratulate you from your home system,im just really happy that many of us users of sonos are happy, like you i was surprise with the sub not only that the whole system came from 5.1 with avr reciever and klipsch 10 inch 250watss sub,and i can asure you the sonos sub hits really deep amd hard and without a distorsion, the klipsch in the movie blade runner 2049 really struggles i can hear the sound of the box and woofer inside like distorsion,by the way i have dual subs,if you have plans or hesitating to buy another sub,go for it its not that you will think it will overkill all the system, but no bro!its just all the bass line now is much even equal i mean before there are part of the room that you can feel the bass more but with dual
Sub its just really really amazing.
Haha, reading this I’m starting to worry. Just ordered mine and it’s for the third floor, above our bedroom. Worried it’ll be crazy loud when the kids are up there!!
Thanks for the review. One question, we have a conservatory with a solid vaulted roof. Will this impact the sound or will true play make adjustment for this.
I have this whole setup and love it !!!!
Any downsides?
Can we connect a set-top box to the Arc?
this is a great review👍👍👍
Thanks :-)
Do you think they would add DTS:X support in the future? That can be dealt with by a firmware upgrade right? Bluetooth support might need a hardware revision but the DTS:X codex can be added and make it a really good choice.
Evening, after some advice. I have a Beam, Sub and two Ones as rears. I have the rears truetuned and facing forwards towards the tv. They are 2M away from me and in-line with the back of the sofa, so just behind me. A friend said shouldn't they be facing towards me instead of forwards. I hadn't really thought about it as sounds good as it is and spend alot of time play music over being used as surrounds for films. Wondered your thoughts?
Hi,just want to know that only arc and sub is enough to get 5.1???
I am having trouble connecting my sony 1000XM4 wireless bluetooth headphones when using my sonos arc + woofer + 2 one SL. My TV is a LG OLED 65 GX. Any advise?
Can you make a comparasion with this year JBL 9.1? They are both very new systems
On my Sony AG9 55" the screen is the speaker and has the option for L & R wired side speakers when the screen will act as a centre speaker. Sony claim the sound is so good a soundbar is not necessary. will I have an appreciable improvement with the Arc system or what would be the best Sonos or other system within say £2000? .
Hi. If placing on a cabinet, where would you suggest it is best placed? Right on the end (nearest to the viewer or further back (towards the TV)?
How do I perform the true play where in my TV sits in a living room PLUS an extended dining room in my open concept layout? Do I just walk the viewing area or do I walk the whole open room?
Thank you for this video, in front of this reference jungle I am lost but recently I saw three bar references that I liked (quality / price)
JBL 2.1 300w
Sony ht-x8500
Yamaha yas 207
Your opinion interests me enormously what would be your proposal for a 30m2 room. thank you so much
I had a house party yesterday and bragged about my new Sonos sound system only to be shamed!!!! First, my 2sl's kept having bad reception, causing the sound to be choppy from the rears. I unplugged them, attempting to reboot, but it kept happening. On top of that, when the party escalated to singing songs on youtube, while watching youtube I would have to turn the sound bar up to its max, but the audio still wasn't as loud as with Pandora. Do these 2 problems make sense to anyone? Is this a dolby issue or should I turn in my sonos for a samsung??
Thanks, still pertinent in June 2021
Do you need a HDMI 2.1 lead to connect the Arc to TV eArc Hdmi port - or is any HDMI ok ?
very ncie vid :)
Thank you !
How do you fix the sync issue from the sky q, Netflix, Amazon prime, Disney plus and Amazon fire stick? As my setup is just the Arc and the subwoofer. Please advise
Hey, I saw you answered the question, but I just want clarification. If my WiFi drops while I'm watching a physical movie the whole surround sound setup is still going to play???
I did buy the Sonos Arc SL, but not impressed that I can not use my android phone to calibrate(trueplay) the sonos arc. Just curious about the front profile(have not set it up still waiting for my tv). Does the arc interfere with the tv remote sensor?
What about putting the sound bar on the floor in front of the TV stand?
What’s the experience like with video contents that has the DTS audio? What’s a comparable setup that has wireless, DTS and Atmos support?
My new home is wired for wall mounted surrounds. The wires go to a central closet where I can install a Sonos amp. My question is, you said the speakers had to be plugged into mains power socket. I have no power at the surround locations. So, can I not use the Sonos 1sl’s? I can use any passive speakers, but you said the Sonos system won’t be able to tune the room if I do. What to do?
Need help So i have a Sony 4K TV KD-75XE8596 the TV is from late 2017 and btw im using the new sonos arc speaker 2020
so i tried suspiria movie which is a Dolby Atmos movie on amazon prime and it shows 5.1 on screen but shows dolby atmos on sonos app so thats good
but when i go on netflix Hacksaw Ridge movie thats dolby atmos on netflix it shows 5.1 on TV screen and shows nothing on app no dolby atmos what so ever maybe its the tv fault i dont know ?
i even tried it on Dolby Atmos vid on youtube and the logo didnt show up on app so do i need a Apple TV for the Dolby Atmos or Dolby Vision logo to show up on Netflix ?
Need help
The intro is everything😂😂
Hello,
Im having problems with LG and SOnos setup. When I connect to HDMI port2 (earc) doesn't recognize. If I put on HDMI1 or HDMI3 I can go next on the setup, but I have problems next Saying that TV speakers are not working.
Can you help? Thanks so much
subs are directionless but positioning in the room matters a great deal as the sound waves are so long. play base heavy movies and move around to find the bass peaking and diminishing. experiment with placement so it peaks in your listening position and just the sub from there:)
So would the audio system make older Blu-ray’s sound really bad as it does have DTS or would it not be a deal breaker. I have older blu rays but also starting to collect 4K movies with better audio
New construction in progress...#14/2 stranded wiring to speakers w/ cat 6 & coax to tv's installed via home runs to dedicated equipment cabinet...Prefer to mix A/V in all zones (pool deck, living room, and game room) via cat 6. Suggestions appreciated.
Hi there. Another great video 👍🏻 I want to know the answer to the following please and I hope you can help. I have a Samsung UE60JU6800 TV and have the opportunity to get a Sonos Arc which would compliment my Sonos sub and 2 play ones but I’m sure my TV doesn’t support it. Would it still work as a speaker but just not very well? Thanks. Any advice would appreciated 👍🏻
What do you use with your vinyl player?
So I already have a Samsung sound bar for my Samsung tv. Can I just buy rear speakers to add to it?
Just bought 2 arcs for the front wall (top and bottom install), 4 subs (1 in each corner of the floor), and 4 rear speakers (one in each corner of the rear wall).
If you are just looking for ways to spend money I would consider other options mate.
Anyone know how this compares to the Harmon kardon citation soundbar?
I have the first generation sonos one. Does it work with Arc?
Can I use a pair of Play:1 as the surround speakers for the Arc?
i just bought the Sono's sound bar and I'm thinking of getting the surround speakers and the the sub woofer I'm watching a lot of reviews and they all go 4 a sound bar and a subwoofer and 2 surround speakers at the back of me. can i add two more surround speakers for the font surround speakers would it b worth it .
Have the Sub gen 1, Sound Bar & the new Move & to be honest it's unrivalled 👍🏻
Would love an update video now that DTS is supported (ambiguously?)
Interested in one of these but need a tv that I know will pass Dolby True HD and LPCM, no dropouts.
Will you do an update of this review with the Era 300 rear speakers, please?
Very good review.
Tackled a lot of questions I've been searching for about sonos. I thought it was plug and play....and it is,....with limitations. I appreciate the setup demo and tips on room size.
Things I had to dig for that Sonos doesn't talk about except in forms. HDMI vs eARC HDMI....this is the difference between atmos and no atmos. One of the big reason to buy this system is the atmos ability. I also watch movies on IPAD 😐😫.....The Sonos arc wants a hardwired connection plugged in from a Tv eARC to the Sonos eARC port.....airplay supposedly doesn't send atmos unless you have homepods,....and homepod atmos.....😏😐😒 it's ok, sonos is the clear winner for atmos between the two.
I have a work around for the airplay to eARC. The point is,.....If you want to use these speakers,...they're not flexible. They were designed for a traditional set-up hardwired to a TV with eARC. If you want all the same functionality, but watch movies like I do on a tablet or laptop.....this takes you down the work around road of "how do I get the hardwire experience for my streaming situation which they don't outright support." I figured it out,...but it wasn't easy.
hello, i need help. I just bought an 85'' Sony and I want to put in a nice sound system with a budget of about 1000usd. it is better to start with the Sonos arc alone and upgrade with the sub in the long term or immediately a beam 2 with a sub? I have a living room of 23m2 open to the entrance hall of about 18m2! Thank you for your help
Do you have a video on the wood acoustic panels?
what system do you recommend for an android user?
Lost...it's either Sonos Arc Surround or Bowers and Wilkins Formation ... pls help.
Are the new 300’s an overkill if used as rears?
Wich TV is the one in the video?
Hi kindly quote me on the full package plus a Sonos amp to allow me to connect to inceiling speakers.
You did the true play with your pinky over the mic the whole time. It shows the phone unpaid down, so mic is facing up, when doing it.
Again a great review. Thank you. One request though; can you make a video about connecting everything through Ethernet? I am not a big fan of wireless. But would like to know more about a wired setup.
If you want to do wired, you’ll have to run 4 Ethernet cables from your router to each device (the arc, sub, and 2 rear speakers). A lot of routers barely even have 4 Ethernet ports, so that may give you issues if you want to connect something else directly to the router, like your tv, a streaming device or game console. Not to mention you’ll have to buy some long Ethernet cables to connect to the rear speakers from the router. I’ve had the whole sprouts since it came out and it does not lose any connection between any of the devices. I have the arc connect directly to the router and the sub and surround to WiFi. It works great.
Boudewijn Plomp thanks for the comment. We understand some customers like the reliable option of a wired connection. Sonos is built to be wireless first and really is reliable when used in wireless mode. Also it’s good to know that when you have a Sonos 5.1 system the SUB & surround speakers communicate back to your Sonos sound-bar of choice via 5ghz and as they are all in the same room we would recommend you only wire the soundbar as the other speakers communicate to the soundbar only and not the router.
@@jessemorales146 this is the setup i am going for as well👍🏼
How would you compare SONOS Arc + Sub Gen 3 + One SL with JBL BAR 1300? Which would be the best buy?
If you had to have the rears in a wider position would you suggest angling them into the ideal audio spot? Or should you always have them squared up facing forward to the arc like in this video?
Turn in 45 degree or strait on 90?
Hi there, I would tend to say make them straight rather than angled unless you have an awkwardly shaped room. TruePlay will always make adjustments depending on whichever angle you put them.
Can you compare to HomePod dual setup
Can I use my Sonos Arc without a television? I'd simply like to play music through my phone (wifi) in a room where I have no TV
Another option for the rear speakers that would probably work well is the Ikea Symphonisk. They are built by Sonos and compatable with the system. If mistaken, please let me know.
Yes they would also work great!
Is it worth getting 2 subs for a theatre room or is one enough?
One thing that should be mentioned is you have to have an ac outlet at the speak locations.
I currently have a Sonos Move and i’m very happy with it. But is it possible to use the Move combined with an Arc and Sub gen 3 as a ‘’surround’’ set?? So the Move instead of two One SL’s??
Hi there, that is not possible I'm afraid. The Move is designed to be used from room to room rather than as surround speakers so Sonos have not allowed a pair of Moves to be used as surrounds to the Arc. You can however group the TV audio from the Arc and Sub to the Move, providing the Move is on WiFi at the time. I hope this helps!
Thanks for the video. Is it possible to use my play:5 as one of the surround speaker behind my couch? I have a play:1 that can go on the left and I would like to use my play:5 on the right side but not sure it's ""configurable" as a surround speaker of the Arc. Thanks again
The rear speakers would need to be 2 of the same model unfortunately. So you'd need either 2 Play:1s or 2 Play:5s.
I've bought two in ceiling wall speakers from Sonos and want to add the Arc and Sub 3. What is your thought about this setup? Much appreciate your opinion.
That would make a great set up if you use the built in speakers as rears to the Arc and Sub. You would need to use a Sonos Amp to power the built in speakers via speaker cable but would make a great set up!
I’m currently using an AVR 5.1 system and modernising the living room space. I’m undecided as to whether to switch to this Sonos system or just add some ceiling speakers to my existing 5.1 set up which is winning at the moment because the AVR has so many hdmi inputs compared to my lgcx. I’m really not sure how best to change to Sonos.
Hello bro i use to have bose home system for 20 years, with always denos recievers, the last one i have is a denon with Atmos with bose acoustimass 6 with klipsch sub 10 inch and 2 back surrounds, what o. And tell you is that with my sonos i really love the change btw i have the ARC,2 sonos one as surrounds and 2 subs gen 3 and i can tell you the sound stage is awsome the bass?the bass of the sonos is much better no distorsion at all volume, the only thing maybe that your system or you want to add ceiling speakers is way better because non sound bar can best a physical speakers as surrounds, but i can tell you the arc and the surrounds is really doing a gret job,in my sittinh position i mount the surrounds 2 feet from the ceiling but pointing where i normaly seat and all i can say is wow thos helicopters, planes is like having a two ceiling speakers, but as i told you ceiling speskers ar better.and another thing i love with sonos?its wirelles, easy to use, with mu denon with odesey i cant remember how is it to calibrate tye sound ,its all boomy the bass doesnt hit hard not deep, the sonos you can feel it its incredible.also the sonos if we go to live in other place its easy to put it in another place😂 the subs are not that big,😀
What is good to know is that ARC is not compatible with all other Sonos devices. Meaning you may need to use different apps for different zones. Surprisingly given Sonos premium branding they do not take backwards compatibility seriously and the devices you bought just a few years ago may suddenly become obsolete.
Is it better than the samsung q990c?
Having problems getting my to rear SL's to play. I connect then and here the chimes. Afer that, nothing. Its frustrating.
ARC/eARC If you have a TV with ARC you do not get uncompressed Dolby Atmos! This is the same down sampled Atmos that Netflix runs. It is a form of Dolby Atmos but it is not True Lossless Atmos. For that your TV must have the eARC connection! I must admit I was a skeptic with this set up but I do have an ARC SL / Two One SL's and Two Gen 3 Subs and I must say I am very impressed with it compared to the old 7.1 I had with a receiver. Also I have a Blu Ray 4K player that converts DTS HD audio to Dolby Atmo output, through it is not the Lossless audio it still plays it in the compressed format which is still very good. I thought the rears would just be an extension of the ARC soundbar, but they actually do separate the rear channel signals of the video your watching. The Height is not as obvious for sound from ARC but I do have a ceiling that is 7' away from the ARC so I do say that is to much! I was a skeptic but I must say I do enjoy the set up!
Would be interesting to see if you can pair the Arc up with the Ikea SYMFONISK WiFi speakers and what the quality is like
Hi there, the Symfonisks can be used as surround speakers to the Sonos Arc if you would like. Hope this helps!
If using the sonos amp with ceiling speakers for the rears where is the best place to place them? Do you place them back further and angle the tweeter toward the listener to really try to imitated the sound coming from behind?
Hi Andrew, Sonos have said that if using ceiling speakers as rears they should be slightly further back as not to interfere with the Arc's upward firing drivers. We would also recommend angling the tweeters to the seating position and carrying out the Trueplay surround sound set-up procedure as this will optimise the surround sound set-up. Hope this helps & thanks for watching.
If you add the Sonos ceiling speakers do they act as actual Atmos ceiling speakers or is the sound coming from them sort of an upscaled 5.1 sound?
Sonos Arc only supports the Arc + 2 rears (+ sub). You can use the amp with your ceiling speakers as the rear surrounds of your setup. But you can’t use different rear surrounds + the ceiling speakers. Two of the ceiling speakers should work as rear speakers if connected to a Sonos Amp but not as overhead Atmos.
That being said, this setup is not ideal as your rear speakers should be at ear level to really feel like the overhead fake Atmos (up-firing) that the Arc does is happening. If your rears are too high (like in the case of ceiling speakers), they’ll sound higher than your “Atmos” overhead and be uneven.
Can’t confirm this myself though. Maybe you can try asking Peter Pee, he makes lots of videos on the Sonos speakers, wouldn't surprise me if he knows the answer to this question.
Great video, very informative and helpful. In the video you suggested that ceiling speakers can be used as alternatives to the One SL. I was wondering whether ceiling speakers can be used alongside the One SL? Or is it just one or the other?
It is one or the other. Passive ceiling speakers only work when used with a Sonos Amp to power them. The Amp coordinates with the Arc for 5,1.2 with only the .2 Atmos in front
@@timothysagehorn9438 Thanks for the reply 👍🏾
Kwadwo Boadu thanks for the comment. Yes it would be one or the other and if using ceiling speakers move them back further from the seating potion than you would SL speakers so the surrounds don’t get muddled with the Atmos upward firing channels.
Is there a Beam version of this video?
Thanks for the great review! I’ve been wanting to buy a turntable and loved the look of the one in the background. What is it?
Hi Ken, that one is actually the Rega Planar 2 - I have to agree the floating platter makes it look gorgeous. Here's a link to it if you need it:www.smarthomesounds.co.uk/rega-planar-2-turntable
@@smarthomesounds thank you!!
Could you do a comparison between the full Sonos arc system and the LG Sn11rg..
I'm trying to decide which one to go with and which tv to pair it with.
So if I get the LG CX then do I want the LG soundbar, or do I still wanna go with the arc..
Tia
I have a Nakimachi 9.2.4 paired with by LG C9 65” with duel subwoofers 🔊 🔊 it’s perfect 👌🏽
I have the LG CX and had the Sonos Arc. It was nice Sound but no Atmos Feeling. So I ordered the LG and hope the Atmos is better.
Sonos arc sound more louder than JBL 5.1 surround sound bar?
Great video! Would it be possible to set up Echo speakers with the Arc, I already have multiple Echo in the front room so would like to utilise two of those instead of forking out for more speakers.
Change the activation word on the device you don't want to respond, I use Alexa, Echo and Computer in the same room to stop devices all picking up when you say Alexa.
No.
