    Great video. I’m waiting for this in the mail. My question is, from the back of the device to the soundbar, do you use a hdmi 2.0 or hdmi 2.1? Thanks again for this video. Of the 30 videos I watched this was one of the most helpful.

    So😬! I just that the Sonos Beam with the sub, and I’m using the fire stick max with projector. I at least just trying fine the best way to get sound. I know that I’m not going to get Adobe Atmos with the Beam. I just want to be able to use my Sonos with my projector. Great video by the way! I wish I had the Sonos Arc

    I replaced a Sonos Playbar that eventually failed on me with the Arc almost two years ago that's connected to a 2014 Samsung 1080p TV. Like you, it's been irritating me to no end that I haven't been able to take advantage of the Arc's full potential without paying HD Fury the egregious amount it charges for the Arcana to extract Dolby Atmos. I figured eventually someone else would develop an Atmos extractor and market it at a much more reasonable price.
    I just replaced the Play 1s I was using for the surrounds with the Arc with a pair of Sonos' new Era 300s. Now I really had a reason to find an Atmos extractor or finally replace the TV that still performs great. It was a while since I had looked to see if there were any alternatives to the Arcana so I looked this weekend and I was thrilled when I saw a couple pop up at reasonable prices. One of them was the Avstar and I came across your excellent video. You'll be pleased to know that I bought and hooked up the Avstar today with an Apple TV 4K 3rd generation and a Verizon FIOS set top box as the two inputs. It works like a charm! The only trouble I had was finding the right video setting in the Apple TV to achieve the highest quality video. I finally got it right.
    My only minor issue with the Avstar is the low quality remote snd the fact that it only works with the IR extender plugged in which plugs into the front of the unit instead of the back. Other than that, everything is great and I'm finally enjoying video content in Dolby Atmos.
    Now that I am finally getting Atmos after finding a reasonably priced extractor/splitter/switch for a third of the price of the Arcana, watch the TV finally go on me and it'll be replaced with a TV with eARC since they all have it today and I'll have to sell the Avstar!
    Anyway, thanks for the video!

    Soundbars should be easy to set up, but they're not. The best thing to do is buy a soundbar with an Earc HDMI connection and a further two HDMI connections, this will eliminate having to get an external switcher box. You then can attach two items direct to soundbar to give you Dolby Atmos, even if your TV is only Arc.

    great video Joe, thank you, I finally got the ATMOS to work with your video. only problem I have left, my TV does not recognize the soundbar with this anymore, so I cant adjust the sound settings anymore...that makes ATMOS content great, but normal stuff is now far too quiet, voices super quiet and effects very loud, since you have to turn volume up quite a bit, did you have the same issue?

    • @techwaketv

    Hi!! This is very useful! I’ve been digging for answers, your “frustration” was a breath of fresh air 😂 I bought a Sony STR-AN1000 thinking that would solve the problem, but no … so …
    Question …
    I have:
    Apple 4K TV
    PlayStation 5
    Optoma 4K Projector
    Sonos Arc
    So … this device you mention in your video should work perfectly I believe … but how do you handle volume control from the Apple TV or Gaming System? Only through the Sonos App?
    Thx and amazingly helpful!!

    Really useful insights in this post. I'm wanting to do something slightly different, but wondering if this device can assist. I currently have the EArc output from my LG OLED TV going to my Sonos ARC and the combined rears and Sub. I am enjoying Atmos and the simplicity of whatever is on the screen is played through the Sonos and the Audio volume from my LG Remote controls the sound level - all good / easy, everybody happy (wife /kids)! HOWEVER I would really like to add some 'beefier' Front Left and Right channels (speakers). My question is this, could I place this unit between the TV and Sonos ARC, pass through the EArc to the Sonos and ALSO split off the Audio to a 5.1 amplifier to which I could attach discrete L and R front channels to Supplement the Sonos? Hopefully I have explained this clearly, I suspect you are the man that can answer my question, nobody else seem to be able to - they just say 'cannot be done' 🤣Thanks.

    • @techwaketv
      @techwaketv  Год назад

      so I would say this...I dont actually know BUT i am using the eArc out only. "if" the spdif is still putting out a signal while I am outputting eArc then I would think you can take the spdif to an amp and spit out a signal there but volumes would be separate and honestly not sure how it would sound. I have the Sonos arc and my left/right separation is down right creepy good...not sure how they do it. I used to have the whole 9.1 set up with individual speakers etc...and yes awesome but the quality of the current system with the simplicity...I cant complain at all. good luck, I would try it...doesnt work you can send it back.

    Thank you. Very useful, however what do you do if you have 4 HDMI devices (eg Apple TV, DVD player etc) and want to switch between watching on TV or Projector, whilst having sound coming from the SONOS ARC ? I tried connecting the OUTPUT CEC to a bi-direction 4k/2k HDMI switch and it worked when switched to TV but not when switched to Projector. If I plugged the TV in to the CEC output directly, the TV worked. If I unplugged that and instead plugged my projector in to the CEC output directly - that worked... any idea what sort of HDMI SWITCH I would need use so I didn't have to plug and unplug cables ? Thanks

    AppleTV 4K is great, but if you use Plex at home for a media server, it cannot direct play Dolby TrueHD audio. The only device that will is the Nvidia Shield Pro. Are there any streaming services that you know of, that offers Dolby Atmos? It’s been awhile since I looked into it, but last I checked, the best audio that the popular streaming services offered was Dolby Digital Plus.
    Great video btw, keep it up!

    Has anything changed since the making of this video? I bought the Ultimate Immersive Set with Arc back in August and it supported dolby atmos out of the box. The app shows when media is playing in Dolby Atmos, 5.1, and stereo. The only issue i had with getting dolby atmos to work is when trying to stream local movies via plex using the latest apple tv 4k.

    The best and the simple way for me was to get a good tv and a good soundbar whit earc and a good hdmi cable even if a had to pay a little extra, and from what I herd the best dolby atmos is from a blue ray player because is an uncounpress signal and they said is the only time you to enable earc on the tv or when is from a source that sends uncunpres signal the apple tv doesn’t have that because is a streaming box and the signal is compress, all I can say is the sonos sounds amazing and I get the atmos in the app whit no problem

    If I go to my Sonos App and play a song in Atmos no problem at all. Works great.

    I believe Nvidia Shield Pro is best streaming hardware than Apple TV 4K. I personally have AppleTV 4K (latest) and I’m in full Apple eco-system but the lack of Dolby TrueHD playback is limiting the capability of Sonos ARC.
    Yes, you will get Dolby Atmos from DisneyPlus, Netflix, Amazon, AppleTVPlus etc, but that Dolby Atmos is over Dolby Digital Plus (lossy format) vs being a true lossless Dolby TrueHD. To be honest none of the Streaming services support Dolby TrueHD so Apple would care less. But if you were to preserve your own media by ripping 4K BluRay disk and play it with say Plex or Infuse, AppleTV 4K will only output 5.1 or 7.1 while stripping off the Dolby Atmos metadata. To be honest, AppleTV has all the specs to output Dolby TrueHD, but seems like it is software capped. Nvidia Shield Pro does not limit that, hence it is the best streaming client.
    Good video by the way!

    • @ThePolyCount
      @ThePolyCount Год назад

      so are you saying blueray is just better than streaming services in terms of audio? Then whats the difference between AppleTV vs Nividia Shield if neither has Dolby TrueHD?

    • @mhatrey
      @mhatrey Год назад

      @@ThePolyCount Yes, physical media w/ Dolby TrueHD is better as you are given uncompressed format. However, difference is Shield Pro allows you to play uncompressed Dolby TrueHD IF you prefer to rip (save locally on your PC/Server/Mac) your 4K BluRay w/ Dolby Atmos. AppleTV does not yet.
      If you are going to just consume streaming media (Netflix, Disney+, etc) you will not notice audio/video difference between Shield and AppleTV.

    Please inform people that dolby atmos from streaming is lossy. So compressed. lossless only comes from bluray

    • @techwaketv
      @techwaketv  Год назад +1

      I understand but most ... most people are not using bluray and high end equipment (non-lossy) if they have an Sonos Arc. I think the Arc Strikes the balance of enjoyable movie experience along with simplicity of control and the most simplistic way to enjoy the system is teamed to a streaming box like apple tv or amazon fire etc. I dont think most of my viewers would know the difference or maybe they would know but they probably wouldn't care at the price and lengths they would have to go to.
