Regarding the Chanters, I believe their job exists solely to RECITE the prophecies so that the exact wording is known, not to preach it. Because the original copies of the prophecies are locked up and only accessible by the keeper of tomes and Bookwyrm, Chanters repeat the prophecies in a verbal form instead of having the prochecies rewritten or read in physical copies, I assume for security and tamper-prevention reasons. It is said the Chanters can be heard echoing in the halls of the library, so I assume there is always a group of them that take turns/shifts being the reciters for that day.

I have spent days looking for a solid guide on turning CM into a streamlined campaign. This is EXACTLY what I was looking for. Can't wait for the rest!

I'm thinking about sending each character an invitation to Candlekeep, to come and help shed light on a worrying discovery (the Canopic Being book that contains all of the characters names). The entrance gift will be waived until they complete the Canopic Being chapter.
They will be offered accomodation at the house of rest, and access to the works in the library while the Avowed look some more into the Canopic Being. (The Avowed want to keep an eye on the players while they investigate, believing that one of Alaundo's Prophecies is occuring).
Alaundo is a seer who arrived in Candlekeep shortly after its construction. He brought with him an extensive collection of far reaching and impeccably accurate prophecies. He died one year later, but in that time he laid his legacy. To this day, the Avowed perform a constant recitation of Alaundo's Prophecies, lest they be forgotten. When a prophecy is fulfilled, it is removed from the endless chant, so that only the prophecies that have yet to pass are recited.
The prophecies can be about literally anything. I personally like to add a Terry Pratchett element of silliness to most of my campaigns, so some of them might be totally mundane.
Otherwise, I'll just guide character creation so that each character has a personal link to one of the other books.

I love your comments and improvements on the Candlekeep adventures. I'm working on running them as an ongoing adventure like you talked about. However, I am going in a slightly different direction. I am having them each be a low level monk at Candlekeep. I thought that would help with the party cohesion as they would all be striving for near the same thing. They all come from outside of the keep, so they are writing up backgrounds that I am hoping to include in different adventures that go outside of candlekeep.

I see the primary issue as being that players don't know which topics to research or books to pull. So, I'm treating it as a library, creating a DC check, and using random info from several sources (upon a failed attempt). These will include info sections from Candlekeep, Swordcoast Guide, DMG, PHB, and MM.
For example, (randomized) "Fable of Baba Yaga's Pestle" then use the section in Tasha's to do a summary. If players want to read more then present them as chapters (under the sections).

The chanters I believe are more so the religious side of the sage aspect of candlekeep while the scholarly side is usually more highlighted and talked about.

I'm making my Candlekeep just a little bit Hogwarts-esque, my players are students trying to become Avowed. Great Readers are teachers, there are some rich kid bully rivals from other classes, etc. I'm loosing a bit of that getting to know Candlekeep and eventually going through Emerald door, but can easily throw the players straight into adventures, and let them play out that HP fantasy.

Damn! Nice dude. But get outta my head, lol, I had a bunch of similar ideas. Loved your suggestion of scholars jumping the party for books. Terrific *chef’s kiss*

My brother and I are taking turns DMing for the other; who has control of two characters slightly over leveled. We each made one, and we made them brothers. I had the first chapter and I had him ambushed by four bandits one of which was a spellcaster like you suggested. In the middle of the fight a wererat attacked and infected two regular bandits. Everyone turned on the wererat and as soon as it was dead they tried to talk it out. There was enough room for two more people, the “party” told them they were on their way to see a curse specialist. The infected wanted on, the spellcaster argued he could go, learn the curse and come back for them. They both called him a liar, at which point he suggested going back to the original plan. Kill everyone and have passage to candlekeep via the stuff they had. As soon as he said that one of the PCs cleaved him in the back with a greataxe killing him in one blow and scaring off the fourth bandit. Afterwards the PC asked the others if they wanted to come, tying them up for the safety of the others. I made the next full moon that night for extra drama, but everyone made it their safely and now there are two extra NPCs pushing the curse narrative. I also made the character looking for matreous from vermeillon like you suggested. A bit of a long story but I hope you enjoyed, your video was very helpful and I don’t think I would’ve come up with this encounter otherwise. I love the content, keep it up.

For my big Candlekeep campaign plans, my thought was that the PCs should be employees of Candlekeep - not Avowed, but "specialists" or "contractors" the Avowed use to solve difficult problems. I had Candlekeep as a bit like the SCP Foundation (securing dangerous books) but also part soulless business ("The ghost tied to this book is annoying the scholars. Lay her to rest so she stops.") That way, the party doesn't need a new book every time they return to base (they can freely enter and leave the site), and they can be assigned quests rather than finding a random book, deciding "that doesn't look interesting" and moving on. (I had the Level 3 adventure specifically be a test by Candlekeep and their wereraven allies.)
For long-term plot stuff, I mostly used Gaernoo, the deity from the Level 7 adventure, as a recurring force that offers dangerous knowledge at a sinister price (in contrast to Candlekeep's more responsible attitude). It's easy to tie several villains to him, or have him be the source of Arrant Quill's corruption in the Level 11 adventure. The Nether Scroll of Azumar also makes a good long-term MacGuffin, if there are several Nether Scrolls that the PCs collect over their adventures (perhaps stolen from Candlekeep by Xanthoria for the finale).
Your bandits idea is a good one. Perhaps the bandits should have tattoos indicating they are members of the Immortal Lotus monks from the Level 12 adventure? Could be a good way to establish those guys as causing trouble for Candlekeep for quite a while before they finally draw the line.

I'm planning on creating a through plotline for the series as well. I think I'm going to use Fistandia and make at least part of the overarching mystery finding her. I thought about using the Shadowfell story (#3) to have them find Freyot there and then hopefully I'll find a place for Fistandia to have been captured in one of the later ones. Thanks for your suggestions. Looking forward to the series.

If you want the party to save a captured Fistandia you could put her in the Price of Beauty adventure as a prisoner (replaced by Sylveria)

I'm absolutely gonna make candlekeep mysteries a straightup meme campaign where the "infinite knowledge" and vast archivesmis just stupid shit. I'm gonna create 4 little blank booklets and the party has to actually write and illustrate their own story in kindergarden like fasion and then they get access to candlekeep. I want the ghost dragon below candlekeep to just be a ethereal dragon head that talks and acts like mushu from mulan. and the gatekeeper is just gonna be an asshole that constantly barrates the group for their ignorance of the place. I am most certainly gonna make shemshime's rhyme be the Mario Theme Song or like Never Gonna Give You Up, idk smth stupid.
