Diamond dremel bit, flex extension, and heat controlled iron are the most overlooked parts to a good stipple job, being able to control heat makes a huge difference in the end look,I haven't seen one you tuber catch that yet, also buffing the under cut to a mirror finish (looks wet) is very easy if you know the tricks, when using a larger bit like a waffle go slow don't let the frame get to hot, this is where people got inconsistent results with the waffle, you cant go fast
1st try using the cheapest soldering iron I could find, completed a perfect triple weave, under cut, finger rests on my SD40VE. Only thing you need is common sense and patience
I thoroughly enjoyed this video man. Thank you for this. I'm trying to start a business customizing guns, and I'm blown away by your skill. Great job and thanks again
The same way I learned how to tattoo is how I learned how to Stipple my guns... got board and wanted to challenge myself so i did it myself. Life is learning so you can pass it down. i think the "17x" is a great idea, ive thought the same thing about concealment. sure a shorter slide may make sitting down slightly more comfortable but that all goes out the window with a fullsize light. The grip is what prints so bad though, while a full length slide might look a little goofy with a compact grip, i think its more practical than the 19x for concealment. i just got into stippling over the weekend and went totally overboard and stippled all my poly pistols, i learned a lot. i think ill end up with one of those wood carvers too. Trying to use the round cutting bit on the dremel for a boarder is hard and leaves a rougher look, i tried that end ended up going back around the boarder with my wood burner which, im sure as you know, is very hard to keep from melting too far outside the boarder. thanks for the good tips brother !
"If you don't like that, you just don't like guns" 100% agree with this. I was planning on doing a simple stipple but I might just have to get fancy after seeing this. Thank you for the video.
WOW - that was sooo satisfying to watch! Thanks for posting, Tristar Customs. I'd be interested to see a SIG stippling video - since their grips are removable. Good job, guys.
i did tape the ruler and then use my solder tip to create a line then use your tiny chisel, having the side of the ruler stick on the frame makes your lines realy good that will avoid accidentally hitting your wrist.
In 2010 or 11 I stippled my Glock 23. Back then we could buy and sell guns on Facebook groups. I posted it up for sale and got a dozen messages about who stippled and how much. And it was a basic job, just a fine point stipple. People lined up to drop their guns off to me at $100 a pop. Never did anything I did look as good as this. I did probably 30 before I got tired of it. Had I had your skill, I might have kept it up. Great work
only three things you need to do to a brand new glock 19. night sights, magwell extension and a knuckle cut. you sir have by far the best free hand work i have scene yet. otherwise i would send my frame to agency and leave it to the laser to do my cuts
Can you post the model of the flex cut tool and the Micro Grinder--I have nothing but time and an extra Ar-15 grip---too broke to have a prof do this...ur work looks great
I bet you could make a simple little leather "glove" to protect your hand and wrist while using that gouge. Sew a thumb loop and have it go down your wrist and button down there. Use a heavy leather in the most likely places to get hit and then harden it, I'm not completely familiar with that process but I think it is pretty simple. I would suggest an actual glove but I hate limiting my fingers when doing stuff like this. Do you end up going back around the border after stippling to clean it up? That little tool is a great idea, much better than trying to use a rotary tool and keep a straight line. Also how do you do the finger ledge? I've only ever seen people use a mill to do those
The dremel 2050 stylo does not go crazy when in a bind it shuts itself off and is the best dremel I've used because it is about the size of the flex shaft tool with the motor and all inside.
I do like your "weave" pattern way better than others I've seen who use the fine tip wood burners and just make a mess of dots. I mean, those do look "OK" and Im sure they are functional, but your stippling is functional and aesthetically pleasing. Very nice. Hey, just out of curiousity, you ever done this to a Walther PPS-2? Wondering if you have any observations on the polymer they use over at Walther (harder or easier to burn, look good? etc...) I might have to give this a try! Thanks for the tips!

Great Video and that turned out Badass bro! I have wanted to try this for so long, and after watching your video I think I have built up enough courage to give it a shot. Thanks for sharing.

shinobi9922 I only use the 1.5mm gouge in the entire process. And I should have been more clear in the video but multiple passes isn’t necessary if you get the depth correct. And I believe the ending border looks thicker because it’s not just a line there by itself after the stippling.

Great video with amazing skill! All you can do is get better with time but you are doing great. Better than myself. Hence why I found your video. Keep up the great work.
I wonder if you started on the back of the grip, or under the trigger guard, rather than the side, would the pattern be more exact and precise at the finish. just noticed how the pattern got a little wonky at the end. Beautiful job regardless.
The Rav Gaming I considered doing that for a long time. But since the frame starts to curve sooner if you start the the backstrap or under the trigger guard it actually makes it harder to keep the pattern consistent. This is one of the earliest weaves I did. After doing dozens of them, I still do one side at a time and you can’t tell where the pattern begins or ends in most cases.
That look friggin beautiful and makes me want to do it to mine...but I need to do some practice on other plastics before I try 1st time on my glock. Awesome job brother and I'm sure your buddy was more than happy. How much does it cost to have that done if I was afraid to do it myswlf?myself?

What's the key to using the u gouge? I bought one but on my practice material (magpul ar15 grip) it slips every couple millimeters and is very difficult to use.
5.56 Or 5.45? Magpul stuff takes a lot of practice to use the u-gouge on. All there stuff has a lot of glass in it. It works best on Glock polymer. Anyway the truck to not letting slip is to wiggle it to start it cutting and if necessary keep wiggling to continually cut while keep one edge of the gouge riding a marked line. One thing you’ll run into is will scuff marks in your border line. You can go back and clean those up later though.

Im only 7:30 into the video and I don't know if you're gonna go over my question but I wanted to ask it now since you just mentioned sanding the factory texture off. Why do you have to sand off the factory texture before you stipple a pistol when you're just gonna melt through it during the job? I've watched other peoples stippling videos but nobody has said exactly why you sand the factory texture off. Does it somehow show through your stipple job or does leaving the factory texture on there make it uneven? Edit: I understand why you had to sand out the finger grooves, those are deep. Yes it will show through your texture making it look rough. Also anywhere you stipple that you haven’t sanded will cause a layer of flaky “flashing” that’s also unappealing

Awesome video and great tips, just one question, how do you stipple near a border you made when you know the tip will ruin your border?
There’s a little trick to it but most just be real careful. And if you get into the plborder you can always cut it out as long as you didn’t stipple into it real deep
