- Based on The New York Times-bestselling book by Charmaine Wilkerson, “Black Cake” is a family drama wrapped in a murder mystery with a diverse cast of characters and a global setting, from Marissa Jo Cerar, Oprah Winfrey’s Harpo Films, and Aaron Kaplans’ Kapital Entertainment. The story takes place in Jamaica, Rome, Scotland, England and Southern California. Cerar wrote the adaptation and serves as showrunner on the series, which spans decades. In the late 1960s, a runaway bride named Covey disappears into the surf off the coast of Jamaica and is feared drowned or a fugitive on the run for her husband’s murder. Fifty years later in California, a widow named Eleanor Bennett, loses her battle with cancer, leaving her two estranged children, Byron and Benny, a flash drive that holds previously untold stories of her journey from the Caribbean to America. These stories, narrated by Eleanor, shock her children and challenge everything they thought they knew about their family’s origin. Watch Black Cake on Hulu!

The casting for the younger and older versions of her is so good
Unbelievably good

So good to see more books by Black authors being adapted to shows and movies!
So this was made base from a book
Yes but I haven't read it@@Viewgirl
@@InLovewithHorrorthe book is great!
What is this movie about
@@francoisemeraude123 a mother of two siblings dies and leave behind a will/last wish. She wants them to get together(they haven’t spoken in years) and listen to an 8hour long voice memo that the mom had recorded, explaining their heritage. There’s a bunch of twists and the book jumps between the kids listening/reacting to the tapes, and then the actual imagery/story of what the mom is explaining. I’d image the show will do time jumps too. Idk if that summary did it justice but I liked it
PLEASE READ THE BOOK FIRST!!! I beg! It is sooo wonderfully and uniquely crafted, easy to read due to format and content. I cannot believe I finally read this novel about 4 months ago and thought, 'wow! this should be on film.' Ask & you will receive. I don't even know if I'll be able to watch it tbh because the book WAS THAT PHENOMENAL.
If I read the book of every movie I watch, I won’t have a job anymore
@@ladytamara1503 it's so worth it though
Agreed, the book was great. It looks like this is going to be an equally good adaptation, though.🤞🏾I’m excited about Adrienne Warren being cast as Benny. I loved her as Tina Turner.
Is it scary? I don't do horror. Thanks in advanced!
@lamiconnie The book is phenomenal.
Not sure why this series didn't get more publicity but this is an excellent series. Each episode makes you immediately want to watch the next episode.
Glad u said seriez...
This is an amazing story. I'm so delighted to see Mia Isaac, one of my former public speaking students in this film. She was a brilliant and focused student in my program while in elementary school, and she is a phenomenal teen talent now! So proud of her!
Your support is wonderful to see ❤
OMG OMG I " F" Love This Series, I just wish we could watch them All Now! Brilliant Story & The Acting is Beyond Words .. Happy Healthy Holidays to you and all your loved ones two legs and four legs

@@crishnaholmes7730 Yes it was
@@orainejulalwhat was it like?
@@thankfulforlife4433 because I did mostly the wedding scenes which was one of the most important part of the story, it was really hectic with long hours on set im talking near 19 hours a night/day for 3 times a week for 3 weeks. We had to battle many rain, sun, plus rocky roads. You had to be prepared for the work load especially as a Background actor (coffee and krafties was our best friend lol). For the series was i apart of little man notorious crew (little man's man/gang/crew). But I got to meet and work with the most amazing hardworking crew and cast.
West Indian people would know what black cake is. Love the title of the book!!!
I am a back ground actor in this movie am so proud and excited to see it..
Where did you guys film
Just finished the book ! It was magnificent and I can’t wait for the live show adaptation! Wow 🤩

I am a black man in his mid-40s. I just watch this whole series very very good had me all in my emotions crying well put together story I will be reading this book and promoting hats off to everybody in this.
I’m beyond grateful for the proper representation and adaptation of black novels that formulate into movies. Filled with compelling stories and complex characters. Can’t wait to see this.
Hulu definitely coming out with more black-centric shows now
This show was SOOOO good; I finished it in a day. I cried the whole time, as if I were part of this family and their stories. The actors truly brought the book to life, and the casting is chef's kiss. WE NEED A SEASON TWO, HARPO & HULU!!! asseblief
“Eleanor is not my real name”….
Oh shyte. I cant wait to see this one.❤️
“The other black girl” was good as well.
Hulu you are doing better w the movies that interests me; A beautiful black queen and i am here for it! Thank u
Mia Isaac has been killing it the last 2 years.
A wonderful masterpiece that will touch everyone’s heart!!!
Who else got emotional watching the trailer? It's like we already know the characters from the book.
Watched the episodes with my daughter while eating a piece of black cake. Love Love Love
Vous pouvez me dire s'il y a des suites. Merci
The book was so good… excited to see this.
I loved this book. I was hoping it would be made into a movie. Yesss
I love black movies/series. I’m definitely watching this.
I’ve read this book so many times 💚✨💚✨💚✨ Oprah for the winnnnn!!! 🙌🏽
Oh my god me too I cant WAIT!!!!
Right...like Bishop Greenleaf just had to have an affair. The principal wife had to go get an STD from a white man and she had to steal the family property. All the church drama.
F Oprah!
One of the best shows I've watched recently. Loved the writing, acting, drama, and mystery. If there is a S2, I'm watching.
What a wonderful book!! Excellent read! So happy to see this adaptation from the book! Keep them coming!!👏🏽👏🏽👏🏽💖
Just finished first episode. In tears in part of the emotions felt from show but also partly tears of joy for it being so good. Rare these days.
I could only get through half of the first episode, I needed a time out. Great show, don't get me wrong, but it is heavy.
@KenpoKid77 for sure.
The book is amazing. Can't wait for this adaptation ❤
Just finished reading the book...hope they do it justice❤
Anytime I see Glynn Turman I’m automatically interested 😊. Now let me hurry up and read this book!
Come thru HULU with these Black adaptations! I’m signing up at 12:01am!
Loved the book! Didn’t know it was being adapted into a movie. Definitely plan to watch
Absolutely loved the book and anxious to see how the adaptation is handled. I also read The Other Black Girl and thought some of the changes in the adaptation were a little off the mark. However, I too am glad to see these adaptations of the African Diaspora. Keep it up Hulu, there's a major market here.
This adaptation is similarly heavy handed with the liberties, and lacks the book’s depth, but it’s well made. I think it’s always hard for those of us who love the books to fully enjoy the screen versions.
I couldn't put the book down. It's awesome
Read the book first
As the child of Jamaican immmagrants, I am so excited to watch this show
Will this be on Disney+ in Canada since we don't have Hulu?
It tends 2 b...black stuff has been same time (The Other Black Girl/Hair Stories) some stuff will b after whole season was on Hulu (The Bear). Canadian Disney does not get The Handmaid's Tail....
I’m on episode 2 of the series and it’s worthwhile, but I think I would enjoy it more if I hadn’t read the book. The sentiment is there, but it omits a lot and takes random liberties to push the plot forward and make it more interesting for TV. I’m happy to see more diverse content, so I’m not complaining. It’s just hard to fully appreciate on its own because I can’t stop comparing it to the book, which I really enjoyed.
That’s why I’m always a proponent of watching a movie or TV show first. If I read the book, I’m always comparing it knowing that the screen version because of time will always have to leave a lot out. Saw the TV version now I’m going to read the book.
Whoa! Hulu keeps teasing solid content. Had to show big love in the Attack The Culture 'Date Night or Nahhh...' section. Tapped in!
Now THIS, THIS is the most absolutely beautiful series someone can watch. Loved every second of it ❤
I got to work on this production last year, excited to see it
as an authentic Jamaican, I wish I got to work on this project! Congrats to them
Im almost done reading this book and I just had to see how they brought each character to life. The mom is very accurate to the description, and I never could fully picture Benny and Byron in my head, but they picked great actors to do it. I can't wait to watch the series now.
This looks soooo good… idk everyone saying read the book first but sometimes that makes my expectations too high. I’ll watch the show first 😊
I was hooked within the first half of episode 1. This story is so intricately told, each episode kept my full attention and left me excited for the next. Nov 8th isn't coming soon enough to watch ep 4 lol.
I love seeing Bashy go from strength to strength
This show is well written with realistic dialogue so nice to adapt this good book
YESS I can't wait I LOVVVEEEEDDD the book! I hope yall did this right!?!
im 60% in the book and the amount of times i've cried already. can't wait to get into the adaptation😭
Like The Other Black Girl, I hope the series is better than the book.
Hulu is making some good shows.
Can’t WAIT to see this because the book is FANTASTIC! 🙌🏾
One of the best series I've watched In a very long time
The book is FANTASTIC. If you can, read the book first you will not be disappointed. I’m looking forward to seeing the movie as it looks like they did a wonderful job.
I watched the show without reading the book, and it was still so good. I can't wait to read the book!
I still have so many questions and I've just finished the entire series. Did you guys really have to stop at 8 episodes? would 10 have killed you? Unless the book it's based off of just leaves 30 things unanswered which I'm doubtful about.
Wow the actress playing the younger version of Chipo Chung actually looks like a young Chipo Chung!
So many great books about the Black experience are being made into film. I suggest ‘Homegoing’ by Yaa Gyasi. Amazing story.
Brilliant series, one of the best series I have ever seen and now one of my favourites.
Accidently ran across it at about 10:30 at night and didn't get to bed until sometime after 2:00 am. I hadn't stop watching until I finished the entire season. I just couldn't stop watching, but It was worth the sleepiness I experienced the next day. I'll keep an eye out for Season 2 so I won't have to repeat the viewing benge.
Apparently it's a miniseries 😢. They need more episodes though because we need more answers.
Please tell me she’s Jamaican. Because the accent matches perfectly
Well a large portion of the series was filmed in Jamaica. I remember when they were looking for background actors but I was too shy too apply lol.
Most was filmed in Portland, Jamaica. The scene where the two girls were riding on a bike was filmed on the same road to lead right to my high school (Titchfield High).
I believe none of the cast is Jamaican. Covey and Gibbs actors have American accents in real life.
Such a great book!
The guy playing Byron is a British actor I’m so impressed by his accent.
I’ve been WAITING!! I loved this book so much and can’t wait to see this ❤
this was good, the casting was amazing
It is just so good! One of the best books ever written and I read constantly. Read it slowly. Enjoy every delightful moment. Soak it up like the sunshine and the sea.
Watching this now. I am astinished by all the secrets and how it shapes a family and the relationships they have with each other and people in their lives. It's so incredibly sad.
It looks phenomenal ❤
The book was a great read, I hope this does it justice
Seeing this right now brought tears to my eyes and immense joy. I love the book, watching this trailer is giving me goosebumps (cue internal fangirl screams)
Looking forward to this book adaptation
I'm 10% of the way into this book. Might watch too.
Finished the book just in time for the show.. can't wait!!!!!
“Love is the guiding light that will bring you out of your darkest moments.”
This sounds incredible amazing emotional.
YES! This is must see TV!
Wow. Just watched episode 3. Such a heartfelt storyline and well cast. Held my breath a lot. Looking forward to the remaining episodes. ❤
Honestly! So good
The book is amazing. I'm reading it slowly.because I don't want it to end.
the book was truly amazing. I hope the film adaptation meets the same standard
I just started reading this last week. I can't wait to finish so I can watch the series.
Who else came here after a Snapchat ad for this show said a usb drive was a tape and threw you into a rage
This was an Amazing Story. I could watch over and over as if its my first time. BRAVO 👏 👏 👏 🎉🎉🎉
This looks freakin' beautiful... the trailer made me tear up.
Oh wow cant wait to watch 💖💯

Chipo Chungs accent is very Zim 🇿🇼 in this. Good to see her on new projects 😊
Oh wow. That's Chipo. I was thinking to myself that she looks familiar
I would like to watch this Black Cake
I’ve never been so excited for a show!
Just read the book....these actors are how I imaged the characters in the book...great casting...can't wait to start this
I been watching and I love it, this is a good show. I wish I would have known it was a book first but I'm definitely going to read the book.
It was worth watching up until episode 4. The girl on girl action killed it for me. Gave it a dislike and remove from my watch list. Can't seem to get away from the agenda. This is why I hardly watch anything on line or apps. I rather stick to 90s TV series when none of those mess was force in our faces
At 1 min 38 seconds is my grandson playing the baby girl, soooooo proud
0:51 titles look like the same thing they’d use on a reality show like Love Is Blind 😂
This show is so so good. I'm getting the book now!
This looks good
Looks great, can't wait to watch.
From the trailer, it seems like they won't stray too far from the book. The book was really good.
Will watch🙌🏿
Already added to my playlist. Looks Dope!!
the book is sitting watching me on my shelf lol now i finally HAVE to pick it up and start
This looks impactful and good … this happens everyday
Interesting
AWESOME show Hulu! Thank you for this find! I had to read the book as well
So underrepresented the 1000th show with all black cast, this won't bomb for sure !!!
So there should be a limit to the number of shows that have all black casts, interesting thought process. Is that just black casts or all people of color?
Beautiful. Can't wait to read the book and see the film.
