I've been using Open Office for a decade. Docs, design, spread sheets, file conversions, amazing.
One feature I love about Microsoft lens is that you can scan an image at an angle, and later correct the image skew.
Your channel is so useful and informative. Love it
Subscribed. That was a perfect app video. At last, someone who recommends genuinely useful apps that are more of less free. I would love it if you could do a similar video for non-business apps. Thanks, great stuff.
An amazing feature of Gmail is the ability to filter emails. Literally every email is a searchable record. If I remember the name of the person, or any other attribute, I just type it in to the gmail search box and it will find every email associated, going back years. Amazing.
Todoist is a great task tracking tool. I recently completed the clean-out of a very large and diverse estate with hundreds of tasks in Todoist that ranged from necessary steps on the auction, daily tasks for clean-up, shopping lists for supplies at different stores, stuff to bring to the properties for the work being done that day, etc. I use it for recurring checklist and references too. For example, I have a project for Travel with sub-projects for the trips where I include the tasks and confirmations, and I have projects for Christmas decorating that includes the annual tasks needed to convert the house. I now use the paid version, but they have included more in the free version, so I may review that during my next subscription window. Great video. I use several of the apps you mentioned. Thanks.
Couldn't live without RUclips! 💚🇬🇧🌱
Liked it and subscribed, very very informative! Great 5 - use most of them , no 6 would have been Slack as it has evolved my business so much.
Google forms is great! You can even include conditional logic depending on answers. Canva is another favourite of mine.
Wow thanks for these tips. Downloaded Canva and made my business logo in 5 minutes!
Trello is, now, with a lot of great features in its free version too! You may consider it in your next video! Great job!
Not sure you qualify this as a tool but for me, when I started using KEEP it allowed me to have a single place that I could share (collaborate) with the wife/friends and use across all sorts of different devices that are synchronized. Using the KEEP extension is so handy while surfing the web to just click the icon in the Chrome browser and have a KEEP note automatically created with the link. No more writing/sticking post-it notes, no need to create emails that have web links copied in, create/read/use from whatever device you are at (phone, desktop, laptop, Chromebook). My one big wish is that they would provide a few more formatting capabilities while creating a note (Bold, Italicize, Underline, Tabs/Indenting for example). I'm looking forward to trying a few of these tools you have highlighted. As always, great videos, keep'em coming.
I thought about including Keep, it is really useful when you use it the way you describe!
I switched from Evernote to Keep, was tired of evernote constantly bugging me to upgrade and I have just discovered you can use keep for location based reminders, likewise I agree just a little more formatting would be nice
@@ubonrat8653 i also use it as a project management tool ... between that and docs its not bad for this.
The keep need an app on iOS.
@@SeaRich Google Keep is on iOS got it on iPad & android.
I just looked up Microsoft lens and my mind is blown I didn't know about this. I work for a university that uses the Microsoft Suite so a lot of my work related stuff are in Microsoft documents, spreadsheets, etc., so this will integrate perfectly with that. Thanks for the video!
Great video!
Extremely Applicable, Informative, & Concise. Also liked that you linked directly to relevant videos for each thing we may want to learn more about.
This is the first video I've ever seen from you... definite "win" discovery for me... subscribed so I can come back when I have more time. 👍🏻👍🏻
Steve, I whole heartedly agree with you on Google Forms. I have used it exactly for what you described: collecting information from a large community and using it for other projects!
I have also been using One Note which came with my windows computer and links beautifully with my iPhone. It allows me to link key emails, documents and other ideas and I have it almost instantaneously on both devices.
I just started using it recently. I got irritated with all the spreadsheet tracking I was doing that had significant portions of the information missing. So, I created a branching form that could ensure all the relevant information was there. I can still edit the underlying spreadsheet if I need to, but it makes it more likely that I'll get all the information I need.
Even as a complete novice, I think it only took a couple hours, and that included all the research to figure out how to make it branch. It would have been a lot quicker if I didn't mind having a super long list of options in the drop down I was using.
The first video I watched of yours and it was AWESOME.
You're a terrific presenter. The content is terrific. I'm sub'd up now. Thank you for this video!!!!!!👏🙏
Great video. Love those short & to the point videos that recommend useful tools.
Glad you like them!
Many many thanks for the video and the heads-up on these great apps!
Hi Steve- came across your tutorials quite by accident but I had to write to say you do a great job! Thanks for your efforts.
You forgot the scanner option in Apple Notes - works on any Apple device and is completely free - paired with pdf editor you’re good to go business mode 🤓
Notability with Apple Pencil. I use this for all my client notes with auto backup into drive. I can scribble fast as if writing on paper, screen shot and send to clients after I clean it up quickly and also have a Backup for reference. Plus integrate pdfs, links, images… etc
I didn’t know about Asana or Scannable. Thank you for sharing these free tools!
Thx as always for great content - I didn't readibly see if the PDFs created in SCANNABLE are searchable. Does it also OCR the document?
Thank you. Great info as always. I just downloaded all these apps and I'll play with them to see if they are useful for our teams.
Great stuff, Steve. Thanks so much !
Thanks for your thoughts. I like that you can try programs/apps for free and they should be limited in some for if they offer a paid version. What I am NOT a fan of is a monthly fee, I don't mind paying for a program or app but do not want to subscribe on a monthly basis. Keep the vids coming! !! !!!
Evernote, I agree: they pulled too much from the free version--the cascading effect me had me leave after several years. One off-the-beaten-track 1 use every day is a 3D book cover mockup creator. DIY book covers 3D mockup. Not an app per set--runs off a website. Totally free and very quick and handy!!
Hi, this is all New for me! I am learning! Thank You.
Wonderful!
Nice Tools! Basic, here from Madrid, Spain!
Thank you, extremely useful
Thanks Steve, this stuff could take years for someone to happen upon 👏👏
Thanks Steve
This was very helpful
Amazing channel. Glad I found it Thank you!
I will checkout a couple of these apps. Just found your channel and subbed. Watching from the PHILIPPINES. I gave up on Evernote a while back also.
Thank you. Great list
Thanks Steve, I am glad that I accidentally can across your video, and I have pushed the subscribed in order to learn more.
Great content! Will definitely help being more productive.
Your communication is so clear. Well done 👍
Agree
Actually you can't resize, delete background, upload your own fonts and create your own brand set without paying for Canva. There may be even more differences, but those are the most important difference for me. I think the paid version is well worth the money.
A month ago I discovered Obsidian kinda like Notion but I think it meets my needs better. I'm glad I discovered your channel I used to watch you on TV years ago (sorry to date you a bit). RUclips is the perfect platform for you :)
Yes!! Obsidian!! However, one has to be slightly more tech savvy to use it, and especially to use it with multiple devices. But Obsidian is my go-to.
I just started using Notion for data bases and found it the easiest database I've ever used.
Brilliant information Thanks 🙏 subscribed
Thank you. Every time I watch one of your videos, I learn something new.
Glad to hear that!
FreeFileSync is my most used free utility - to back up and sync my data on data drives
Thank you for this video! God bless.
Just a fabulous channel Steve - thank you!
Many thanks!
Liked your video after the first app - BRILL ! 👍
Google Sites is my favourite free tool. So easy to use and perfect for a small, local charity.
Immensely helpful as ever Steve
I use DaVinci Resolve for RUclips video creation. I've used Pinnacle Studio and Premiere, but the free version of DaVinci Resolve blows away those paid versions. They have a paid version but I would probably never use the functionality of it. Great video. Love Canva! Thanks
I use the SCAN app inside of NOTES on my iPhone. Works great for me!
Wow a great list I think Canvas and Google Forms will make my top 2 apps for my work. I also found a few surprises in the top 5 list
That is awesome!
Nice. didn't know about Asana.
i am very impressed and excited to continue follow you ,thank you.
So nice of you
Hi Steve
Just new to your channel but loving your videos and your friendly and helpful manner
Thanks for your help and the informative videos

Awesome, thank you!
👍 It's a start for me, let's see what happens. Thank you for the tips. Take care!
i use all functionalities mentioned except canva since i dont do graphic marketing myself. well done !
I love Calendly. I was able to set it up in less than 5 minutes and my elderly customers don't seem to have any problems figuring out it's simple format. They like it too.
Totally agree!
Yes. I second this Calendly free app for scheduling appointments for different events.
I'm liking Koalendar instead of Calendly -- mostly because the free version lets me offer 30, 60, 90, 120 minute appt options (it seems that Calendly is limited to 1 option)
Great video, thanks for the information.
Your presentations are are really good and understandable.
Asana is wonderful with the free version. It is great for team project. Love it
Thank you. Love your videos.
Excellent Video. Thanks for sharing. Consider adding a link to the other videos that you mention, in the description, please. In this video, you have mentioned your previous video on Mind mapping and another one on Canva. Such links can also be left in the pinned comments.
Awesome great video. I can think of great uses for all of these and as soon as you indicated the rules in the beginning - I gave it a like. Lol
More like this please . - new subscriber
Fantastic!
I like your selection of useful tools.
Another great video! Thanks Steve
Glad you enjoyed it
left evernote years ago for one note. use it to copy articles from newpapers subscriptions and comments from twitter. Here it gets boiled down to subjects and then pages. I prefer PC over Apple here but have an Apple Smartphone.
Tnx man. This was really helpful 👍
Gr8 work Stevo! ty
Years ago when Evernote started limiting devices, I switched over to Microsoft One Note. Great program that runs on Windows, IOS and Android. All my devices are in sync with no effort.
Same here. Switched to OneNote years ago. Can sync with my phone, tablet, desktop and laptop. That's a big plus.
Ditto. It was also around the time they jacked the price up by 50% if I recall. OneNote I find a little strange to input data at times with the multiple boxes it can create but that is likely user error
I wish one note had Evernote’s powerful way of indexing every word found in saved photos Or handwritten and scanned notes., for rapid search.
I'm sure Gates is enjoying selling your notes too
@@janeblogs324 Google is far worse for data collection
I like Google forms, just wish you could do custom layouts for the form vs list a linear list of questions.
Scannable … Yes 👍🏽
It has been my ‘Saviour’ to Evernote … made me use Evernote
Padlet is really useful for online projects for companies, students, and teachers. It allows you to collaborate together. I've used it in real time for my military students to answer tactical questions and upload map routes. This works via phone as well though I prefer PC. There's a sliding category type you can use for each student's work or groups of students. I think for certain specific uses, it's a good free service. The only issue with the free version is your limited to 3 posting boards and caps per upload/post around 20MB. I've seen this change for the free version from 10MB, 25MB, and now it seems 20MB. The upload limit gives you a bit to play around with photos and posts, but video wise, you're more limited depending on quality. HQ (1080p) vids maybe 30 sec - 1 min, NQ (720p) around 2-4 mins, and LQ maybe 8+.
For limit of 3 padlet boards, you can still work around this buy using one board for a lot of classes/projects with organization, it just gets a bit more packratty. I like the 'shelf' option for this, which gives you basically categories/names with slideable columns. I haven't used the timeline layout yet (slideable horizontally) but it looks like it could give quite a unique feel for individual projects.
The upload size is mainly my biggest issue with Padlet. I'd like for students to be able to upload videos with ease. Many have no issue but some newer phones push out some major HQ video, which ends up causing issues. Even for the 2nd Tier Gold membership, giving 100MB per upload, I've had students just over with videos of 128MB before. So, this is just something I need to strictly enforce in order to avoid issues. Despite this, having 100s of students having the ability to post short videos, still seems like a great free service. There's just sometimes the need of downgrading the quality in order to fit them in if they're a bit longer.
Man I am so grateful to find your channel, you have no idea 😊
Happy to hear that!
I use Google forms to make multiple option exams for my students. Fantastic!
CamScanner is a nice scanning tool for both Android and Windows--it easily syncs in both directions--and has an IOS version to boot. I use the paid version to get more storage, but the basic freeware version is very functional.
Reposting what someone posted in comments (for ease of viewing n access similar options)
Tiny Scanner is a great free app that does the same as the ones you've recommended on both Android and iOS
I’ve been using CamScanner too. But I don’t know if it’s a “safe” app. Lots of documents scanned are not truly private but also not something I’d like collected by someone else. So every time I use it I get a bit concerned about who owns it, where the data might be aggregated, etc. I actually love the app so from that perspective thumbs-up. Any idea if it’s “safe” for the purpose of scanning semi-private data ?
I used to use CamScanner and loved the ease of use. However, I have used it on two difference cell phones in the past and both phones froze up and one literally died. When I took the phones to be analized, it was found that the App Cam Scanner was the culprit. So, I no longer use that App and also sad about it, because it really was a good App.
vFlat for Android
@@byrnesrus Wow, thanks for finding that out and posting. I looked at their website and two things on there indicate this is probably Chinese owned, sad to say.
Very helpful. Thanks
For me a big one, for small business is airtable. Migrate all Excels I had, nice and user friendly
If the threads are used right in Slack, it is a dynamic communication tool that is easy to keep the details separate
Wow, a blast from the past! Like AOL... but it was lovely; I started with that too. Not sure how it is now.
@@adriennemccue-SUFMH Still use it do ya?
@@StevenDragoo not in years, mainly, googt products, I even stopped using Microsoft these days.
Great free apps, thanks!
I wonder if an app that makes some functions available only after watching ad, still qualifies as free app. In a sense, it requires you to pay with your time. That's how it goes with my favorite free video editing app, where you've to finish watching an ad before you can generate final result...
Terrific - thank you
I love canva just started using it.
Good video just liked and subscribed 👍
Awesome! Thank you!
Yes I learnt a lot, asana , canvas , Google forms would be my picks
Google Docs app can scan documents as well, possibly not as well as Scannable or Microsoft Lens, but it's definitely capable.
Great tips as usual. Adobe Scan and Zoom didn't make it to the list. Free features of these two are quite useful and meets most of my requirements.
Ever note is now al my tablets man computer and lap top
Thanks Steve great video
I use Tiny Scanner for Android as my fave scanning tool.
The thumbnail in the Asana section for the reference video is the one for mind mapping.
Thanks Steve, 😊 I viewed this as a refresher for app. By the way, what do you think about Evernote being bought out? Do you plan on a video about that? Your thoughts are valuable to us.
I’m addicted to Canva, I happily pay for the pro account as I use it on a daily basis for both business & personal.
Thank you. I'm still working at getting my act all together.
You got this!
You can do the same thing that Scannable does with the native Notes and the Files apps on iOS.
Yep…been using the scanner in Notes since available. Have tested it against Scannable, Adobe, etc. It’s quick and precise.
Thank you!
Hi
I use Books a lot, I look at a manual that I need or information on a product, a guide, in fact anything that can be a PDF and just download it to the page I’m on, then click the share box with an arrow, then scroll to Books click and it copies whatever.
You can organise into your own library, ie I collect cameras and lenses, so edit, tick the file and it places it in that library section, organise how you want, I use manual, so I can place like or type consecutively, eg, Pentax Spotmatic service manual, next to Pentax ME Super service manual, you get my drift, as my first wife who was a very good PA to a CEO said, filing is personal, but if you look at a company, it has to be generic for the majority, ie peoples surname first, then initials, address etc.
Great info though as usual, DG New Forest UK
Very helpful. Thanks.
Glad it was helpful!
Thanks for sharing the info
No problem 👍
Microsoft Powerpoint is a great tool too with its Morph transition.
Do you think your first app is better than the scanner that is built in the notes app on iOS? Thank you
I love using Miro and Todoist!
