We _really_ need a new TMNT with costumes and puppetry; to this day the original 90's film still is my favorite incarnation of the turtles. Like they say at the beginning, these costumes _still_ hold well to this day. Brian said they "didn't work perfectly", but really they managed to add so many nuances to the expressions and capture so much emotion that the characters feel tangible and real, a thousand times more than the awful Michael Bay CGI films.

The legendary, literal master of puppets, Jim Henson, worked on this movie. Something that great will never happen again. Hopefully his son can bring back some of that wonder.
The only ninja turtles movie worth remembering. I absolutely loved this movie when it came out in 90. I was 7 years old. There's only a few films I remember watching at the theater when I was pretty young- Batman, the wizard, honey I shrunk the kids, hook and TMNT! ALL films sketched into my memory bank. The 80s/90s were the bestest.
Yeah times changed... i feel like kids with their youtube aimlessly clicking from vids to vids will have no good memory of their youth. Being dirt poor, i had to wait for VHS. Was so happy to save for it and get it the day of release.

Just like I have the 3 LOTR Extended versions, the 3 Hobbit movies,) and especially the Hobbit animated TV movie by Ranklin and Bass from 1976. I also have the entire Rocky and Rambo series too. And the entire series of Beauty and the Beast (1989 with Ron Pearlman and Linda Hamilton), and of course, Are You Being Served. I have also several Tmnt dvds from 1986 (3 seasons) and 2012 (sadly, except for the last seasons.. they end going to space). All on dvd and blue ray. So I'm happy. 😊 😃 😀 😄 😁 🤣
They need to restore Michelangelo's darkness scenes. His training montage in the barn, the drawn picture of him not cut from the movie, the yelling Splinter on top of the barn not replaced by Raphael's voice. Parents being gone always affects the youngest the hardest. Makes more sense when he cries during the bonfire and starts to open up again. In the novel, Mikey didn't talk once at the farmhouse after Splinter was taken or start to lighten up until the Turtle Wax and kitchen scene. "Fight?" "Fiiight." "Kitchen?" "Kitchennn." "Pork rind?" "Pork riiind." They cut it because kids. That was stupid reasoning for a film where Mikey is hitting thugs with nunchaku on the heads making kids want to do it and Raphael is light swearing using words kids should not use?
@@cbfwebs Agreed. Of all the stuff cut from the film, the one that I think really hurts the movie, is Mikey's brooding and intense training at the farmhouse. It's a great movie, as is, but that subplot would really round it out perfectly, and give more to Mike's character than the usual comic relief. I understand that the producers wanted to move the second act along, fearing kids would lose interest...but it's a film that holds up, for an older audience. And I think that audience, and Steve Barron, deserve a director's cut release. Plus, they always underestimate kids' ability to stay invested in a well told story.
@@cbfwebs you’re talking about a relatively low budget indie film from over 30 years ago my friend. The cut scenes were likely destroyed or damaged and lost over time. There is very unlikely a directors cut could ever be made from the negatives.
They were ahead of their time. With today's tech they would create a amazing movie with them as costumes. If they ever do the first ninja turtles movie should be a foundation for a lot of ideas.
I love the nostalgia as well as the honesty (that sounds like it was *extremely* hard on the suit actors, who all gave great performances despite the conditions). Also makes me very curious what similar suits with new technology and ideas could accomplish now, in a way that could be easier on the actors. There seems to be a very sizeable appreciation for those suits these days, right?
I still remember seeing this amazing Ninga Turtles 🎥 on opening day and it still is and always will be my favorite one of all time! Now that's Turtle Power!

What we need would be a real life animated puppeteers adaption that goes into the special effects, which was not possible at the time due to the low costs. 🤔🔋🎬🐢🐢🐢🐢 Yes, more old-fashion, but also with today's special effects that are urgently needed. Puppetries with much more mutant animals in digital animation because it is necessary for better special effects.

Jim Henson was the one who disliked some of the stuff in the first movie and felt they were too violent. Despite this, before his death, he said they were the most advanced effects the team has ever worked on since The Dark Crystal. The Henson company also did the sequel as well, but by the third movie, they were too expensive.
It's all TMNT. It's always gonna change, its always gonna be different. That's the only reason this series has lasted so long. You may not like it, but it's someone's 1st version.

Realistically a new live action tmnt movie would have updated puppetry suits for the non action scenes and cgi for the action ones.
