In all of comics, this one has my favorite origin story for how it happened. I love that something so popular happened from 2 friends just being stupid and having fun.😊
My love for the turtles was a strike of lighting... I was hooked in a second. I live in Bolivia and we didn't get the comics or anything back in the day, but I knew through news that they were a phenomenon. Then some toys came and as soon as I layed eyes on Mikey I was lost. The the video game at the arcades was the best (I sitll playe it regularly with my 8 year old son) and some episodes of the cartoon at the video store... The movie was the first one I bought when we got a vcr at home... I love the turtles with all my heart.
For fictional characters that have one of the most unplausible origins, TMNT works so well. This makes this a phenomena for me. We never cared that much for it. We still loved these guys so much.
Theres a lot more to their story and it aint all rosy, much of it about being taken away from comics for decades bc the creation got too big for them to manage. It also damaged their relationship. Also the collapse of Tundra. So yes its both inspiring and a cautionary tale, but that's the best kind of history lesson.
As a kid of the late 80s and 90s this is really cool. Growing up I had the turtles big wheel, the games, the VHS tapes, the figures. It was my generation's Pokemon. Is there a part 2 of this where they finish discussing the characters including the villains?
This is so awesome! I remember seeing the first TMNT movie as a kid in theatres and it was something magical. The TMNT animation with the theme was something that will stick with me forever.
@@guntherhuemer1767 Well, Kevin Eastman most likely meant once he saw Jack Burton he put some of that influence into Casey as he continued to appear in TMNT. I’m no mind reader but I can speculate as to what Kevin was inferring.
This was an amazing video! Big props to the edit team - very emotional and inspiring. Im so familiar with this story but seeing it like this is amazing. Never give up on your dreams!
TMNT are RAD DUUUUUDE !!!!!, love it since i was a kid, i have been collecting stuff related to ninja turtles : posters, magazines, items, videogames, action figures....
I bought that 4th printing of #1 with issue #5, after the turtles caught fire in comics shops but years before the cartoon. When I read in a fanzine that Eastman and Laird had signed a deal worth $60 million and there would be a turtles tv series and toys I felt as if I’d entered another reality.
No. There is no warmth in them)🤗 Impudent, modern. The shredder is flat... Just an evil guy. Like in Bay's movie And in 2012. 2003 : The drawing is terrible. Characters, too. The atmosphere is...sick😅😐 : |
@@YOSEMITEVUE-fo9tu I've never heard him pronounce Raph's name I guess. That caught me off guard lol. Had to play that part a few times to make sure I heard it right.
TMNT 80s cartoon is better than any others that came after and the movies TMNT 1990 and TMNT Secret of the Ooze is far better than what they made in the 2000-2024.
And this is facts and we will not have any of yhe fans of the newere era stuffsay otherwise. Like what you like fam. But the OG cartoons and movies can not be topped.
Everyone loves a rags to riches story. But when you still in rags they don’t want nothing to do with you. And I’m sitting on a goldmine of franchises and ideas. Wait till my comic drop
TMNT is one of the greatest franchises ever made!
Thanks, Peter and Kevin
Fact💥
This is incredibly inspiring for any comic creator! Thank you Peter and Kevin for giving us this story and these characters. 🐢
In all of comics, this one has my favorite origin story for how it happened. I love that something so popular happened from 2 friends just being stupid and having fun.😊
It’s like if Jerry Seigel and Joe Shuster kept the rights to Superman, published it themselves, and reaped the rewards.
*passes the blunt* “hey bro check this out”
“what”
“ninja turtle”
“sick bro”
Stop trying to turn it into some dumb ghetto joke.
Thank you peter & kevin. I wouldn't be this happy without you. Thank you.
TMNT classic comic franchise, glad to see it become big.

RIP Ed Piskor, the Cartoonist Kayfabe interviews with Eastman & Laird are treasures
And James Avery, Uncle Phil on Fresh Prince of Bel Air, Shredder and now Peter Renaday, this version’s Splinter.
For fictional characters that have one of the most unplausible origins, TMNT works so well. This makes this a phenomena for me. We never cared that much for it. We still loved these guys so much.
The story of Eastman and Laird is very inspiring.
Every aspiring comic artist should learn this story.

I grew up with TMNT 1987 - Fred Wolf & New Line Cinema live action film series.
Awesome!!!
one of my favorite stories about a franchise start.
Thank you Kevin and Peter for creating the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles. Turtles Powers forever.
Kevin & Peter = GREATNESS
I've heard the story of TMNT's creation so many times, It's by far one of the greatest things EVER CREATED! TURTLE POWER!
TMNT will always be awesome. Both the original comic and the later versions.
Thanks for sharing this! TMNT meant the world to me when I was kid. Had all the toys, all the costumes, cartoons, movies ect.

Ninja Turtles arguably had a bit more substance than Pokémon.
I love how this super crazy and surreal concept just came naturally to Eastman and Laird.
The original comics are so good and absolutely worth reading if you can find them.
😂😂😂 Read like a book?
@@MRxDEMOK that is why they are called comic "books" yes.
My local comic collectibles shop has like the first four for sale. He has a 1st printing issue #1 priced at like 80k....

I'm in awe of artists and creators like Peter and Kevin.
Love me some TMNT and love me some Casey Jones. From the cartoon to the movie. Awesome memories.
Kurt Russell / Jack Burton from Big Trouble In Little China inspired the creation of Casey Jones is so cool.
casey jones first appearance was in 1985, big trouble in little china was released 1986🤨

On my birth year is crazy! 🤯
❤ Thank you guys for all you've done! Sincerely, Sier Gitt 😀👍🏽
Todd McFarlane likes to take so much credit but TMNT actually had kids reading comics along with the merch.
Todd Macfarlane went bankrupt almost 10 years ago and doesn't really draw comic books anymore.
@@aeonsbeyond _one_ of his companies went bankrupt, but Mcfarlane Toys and Image are just fine and still making money.

I grew up on the Mirage comics, so the 2003 series and 2007 film are my favorites.
One of my fav franchises of all time
This was awesome, is there a part 2...would love to hear them discuss the villains
TMNT ARE THE BEST LAIRD AND EASTMAN ABSOLUTE GENIUSES
Turtles were bigger than Pokemon back in the early 90's !!
Crazy I only live like 20 minutes away from where it all stared
Same. Sad that the house is no longer there
God bless those two
The Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles will always be a huge part of my life.
Remember having a copy of the first issue got it from a shop in Northampton Massachusetts. 😢wish I still had it 😮
I love being a turtle 🍕
the 1987 TMNT series is my favorite form of TMNT. I know that’s weird. But idc it’s funny and light hearted
Wow! I grew up with TMNT and is crazy to know they are my age 🎉😅😊

They created an independent IP like few others. Breaking barriers like very few have ever seen.
Holy moly, you guys got Peter to sit and talk about TMNT.
Loved the Dave Sim shout out!
The Best Franchise🙏
One lesson from TMNT is that how matter stupid the idea, give it a chance.
I need a 2 hour long documentary about the entire history of the turtles
I have five or six of the original comics sitting on my shelf, bought brand new when they came out
Before the boys parodied all superhero stories there were the ninja turtles
TMNT☺️👍
I love the art from TMNT.
awesome video. And here I was running wind sprints everyday my whole life.
TMNT was fun as a 12 year old. I prefer to let it live in the past.
Ninja turtles all day every days !!!! Gawabanga dude !
I wanted to be Casey Jones when I was a kid. I still do. he's my favorite TMNT character
To those responsible..
THANKYOU

I remember it being an RPG in the 80s.

How cool is this
I bought the first five issues plus Fugitoid when they came out. Unfortunately they got damaged while in storage. 😭
and martial-arts, adventure based animal comic books went after that.
My childhood.
Casey Jones should have a Spin Off!
Peter Lard
Last Ronin movie. Get some more movie origins stories for TMNT 🐢
7:59 what about Mikey and Leo?
I'm more concerned with the way he called him "Ralphael" lol
Raph based on Kevin was not a huge surprise (tho I thought he was going to say Wolverine) but Don based on Pete was a revelation!
Wasn’t there a new documentary that was supposed to come out this year?
I'm pretty sure this is essentially an ad for it... look at the last thing shown.
OG SECRET OF THE OOZE.. #2
I wonder how they feel about the modern gangster versions of the turtles now...
