This is so sad cause James Avery looks like he has such a passion and respect for everything that was done there. What a legend.
This show wouldn’t have been nearly as iconic without his depiction of Shredder. Whiny, petulant, but still possessing an air of menace and evil.

As a young person, it was so fun to recognize those familiar voices in other projects later. Realizing Uncle Phil was Shredder blew my little mind.
it really would have changed the dynamic of Fresh Prince if they did a crossover. I don't know if I'd want to see that more, or Uncle Phil in the sewers of New York fighting the turtles.

God hearing and seeing James Avery again just makes me remember the olden days of him in both the TMNT and the Fresh Prince of Bel Air series. There was no one quite like him and Ill missed him alot.

James Avery was a fantastic actor. I didn't know until years later that Uncle Phil from the Fresh Prince was the Shredder. What a talented actor! He also appeared on an episode of CSI as a blind man. RIP James. You were a truly great talent!

So great seeing Peter Reneday. He doesn’t get a lot of recognition. He had a long association with Disney, providing voices for their rides and attractions. What blew my mind was when I found out he was the voice of the host bear Henry in the classic Country Bear Jamboree show :o

For those who don't know, Rob Paulsen voiced Pinky in Pinky and the Brain, Yakko from Animainiacs, Carl in Jimmy Neutron, Throttle in Biker Mice, PJ in Goof Troop, and SOOOOO many other from the 80's - 2000s. Really great guy. I met all of them in Pensacola Florida and they're all really great guys. I'm a kid of the 90s so Turtles was before my time, but after watching an episode of SWAT Cats, I saw Ninja Turtles and I was HOOKED like the Turtle are hooked on pizza. I've never met such swell guys like them. I really hope I get to meet all the Turtles again one day

You know, how in modern cartoons, they get individual voice actors doing dozens of roles (probably to save on the budget)? I'm genuinely surprised, that they had a separate person for each character. That they all have a real face behind the image. Makes it so much more enjoyable. When I was growing up TMNT was all the craze. Especially the console games. They were the best.

God I miss my childhood.
I was born in 2003 but the 1987 Ninja Turtles cartoon series was my favorite cartoon growing up. I had a lot of the VHS tapes and DVDs and on Friday nights we would make pizza and watched episodes on my VCR and DVD player. I even dressed up as Leonardo for Halloween. I get a lot of people prefer the darker and more serious takes of the Ninja Turtles (2003 and 2012 series) but THIS was the TMNT that I knew and loved.
I was wondering why Rob Paulsen wasn't here (he voiced Raphael) but then I remembered he's done TONS of voices on cartoons over the years, he probably was busy doing more! Animaniacs, ninja turtles, goof troop, tiny toon adventures, the list goes on! The guy is a legend!

Even at a old age Barry Cam Rob & Townsend still got it, Also I believe their Interview must be about either the late 2000's or early 2010's since James Avery was still alive at that point before his unfortunate death at the late of 2013.

Getting home from elementary school and watching this show was a highlight. The intro is still very nostalgic. Takes me back 35 years now. I had a ton of the toys too. Still a fan.

Its insane to think this started as a fad and became a long standing franchise that is up there with Batman and Spiderman
It wasn’t so much a fad as a riff on fads of the time. Particularly Frank Miller’s Daredevil tropes.

I wouldn't say it started as a fad. It started as an indie comic done as a passion project based on a joke between roommates. It *became* a fad, twice at different levels. First the comic blew up in the underground scene and everyone tried to copy its success, then when the cartoon and toys came out, kids became obsessed with them around the world.
TMNT is lightning in a bottle. It's pure magic.
Nothing has been able to successfully replicate it; not even Nickelodeon's modern iterations. They've all fell flat.
@@wretchedreject8700 I'd say for about four seasons, the 4Kids (2003) cartoon was better than the Murakami-Wolf (1987) cartoon...mainly because it leaned heavily on the comics for adaptation and actually had some degree of respect for the source material. But it didn't come close in terms of cultural impact. Even with the benefit of the Internet age, it didn't go nearly as "viral" as its predecessor did. The merchandising alone during the peak of Turtlemania was insane, and the Murakami-Wolf cartoon certainly did what it was designed to do, which was advertise the toy line.
And Pat also voiced for Baxter and Barney Srockman twins.

Wow. Thanks for the trip through my childhood.
I really wish I was in that documentary. The people who made the documentary came to interview me at the comic book store where I worked because I'm such a huge fan. They got well over 2 hours of footage. But when it was finally released in 2014 and I watched it, sadly not a single second from my interview was in it. I was very disappointed. I don't know if it was because of my speech impediment or what. But I do have photos from that interview still to this day. And Barry Gordon does mention me on the volume 5 DVD set in a featurette.

wow in retrospect i just realized alot of gay actors got work on this show. Very progressive.
Progressive? The job was for voice acting.....they got hired for their voice. Highly unlikely that sexual orientation would matter when the producers are looking for the right voice to bring a character to life.
This just literally made me smile throughout i love this and hope to see more im a big fan of the ninja turtles orginals and doesn't get any better then this

I always loved rob paulsen hes a legend and one of the bestest voices i know to date he was yakko pinky gordon on catscratch mark chang on fairly oddparents and a lot of others hes like the mel blanc of the 90s and 2000s to me
I stumbled to this video by coincidence. It was flash back to 1997. I was 10 yrs old just got home from school and turn the TV to channel 20 in (Houston). Thank you to all you guys thar made my afternoons from school epics, and gave my parents headaches. Thanks to both of my parents for buying everything that was turtle back them. TURTLE POWER!😮😮
