Are you kidding? Kermit is a puppet. It’s a character puppet voiced and operated by Jim Henson. It’s not a real frog dude. I don’t really know where to start. Don’t you realize that puppeteers are operating these things? Can’t you see that it’s made out of fabric? A real frog has a hydrated skin for its amphibious nature. Do yourself a favor and look up and compare real frogs to Kermit. Only then will you realize that it’s ridiculous to think that Kermit is a real frog.

Really well written and performed song that any Muppet fan will love (On par with "The Rainbow Connection", if you ask me). It's nice the way they do the fun songs in between the touching or sad songs to keep the spirits high. I find it hilarious that Arsenio needed several seconds to figure it out, ever after all the hints. Arsenio KNOWS Rowlf is a puppet, he can SEE the puppeteer, and yet the illusion that Rowlf is a living being is so compelling that Arsenio needed to overcome a mental barrier before understanding why Rowlf couldn't move his other arm.
@Rancid Crawfish basically it's when a person or entity refers to itself and what they are doing. In this case, Jim, as Rowlf, explains how the Muppets operate.
When I was 8, I hadn't lost anyone close to me yet, but when I heard Jim Henson died, that was the first time in my life I'd ever "felt" death before since I pretty much knew what it meant. I grew up watching Sesame Street and the muppets and knew exactly who Jim Henson was. That was a raw day, man.
This is classic Muppets! As soon as rowlf said “son of a B****,” I almost died laughing! That’s the first time I have ever heard a Muppet cuss! Also, RIP Jim Henson! You have brought happiness to many people!
The Muppets always had an adult edge to them if you watch closely. Even the early Sesame Street episodes before Elmo (gag!) became a thing and they started making it too baby-ish. That's why all age groups got something out of them.
I remember Rowlf from the Jimmy Dean Show. He was actually a regular on the show. He and Jimmy would have about five minutes with one another each show. And other times he would have a session with a guest star. I looked forward to his portion of the show!
The most fascinating thing about Kermit is his integrity. He has this groove of propriety and restraint that he never strays from. But he's not naïve. Jim was very careful to keep Kermit in that zone that parents trust. I'm old now and he's still a comforting presence.
It's astounding how talented Jim was. Even operating Kermit and Rolf on his lap in full view, they come to life to such an extent that I'm suddenly a kid again, watching The Muppet Show at 4:30 on Channel 13, Mon-Fri.
I must be super baked, when arsenio was talking to Kermit about how much money he makes I was like “dayum that’s cold blooded calling Jim out in front of Kermit like that” and then I was like “oh wait” truly a legend gone way before his prime imagine all the ideas he had that we can never see now rest easy man you definitely deserve it🙏
A suit is all contrasts and sharp lines, it draws attention to the person wearing it. Jim Henson needed to be background textured, to make it easier to focus on the Muppets. So, fuzzy gray sweater.
This was exactly 2 weeks before I was born. God I wish Mr. Henson didn't pass away so soon. I can't watch any Muppets after 1990, it's just not the same. Jim Henson, Fred Rogers, come back . . . :(
I know how you feel. I did not know the man but I get emotional whenever I see footage of him. Saw a documentary and really linked him with to the voices and work on Sesame street before his death. Talented and creative human being. Gone too soon.
Even with Jim sitting right there. When Kermit and Rolf start talking, I just forget he's there. Such an amazing performer. Thank you, for all the great memories.
Jim henson does a fantastic job with all his characters. Sometimes I forget they aren't aren't real .they always make me happy I smile the second I see every characters
@@Mgmt Arsenio would mention something naughty in every single monologue, and I am not surprised he went there. Yes, once he had, Henson going there for more naughtiness would not have really added to the humor as well.
As many times as I've seen Jim Henson on talk shows, whenever he performs with a puppet, the interviewer always suddenly says "It's so strange, I'm talking to Kermit like he's real." Henson and his gang were amazing puppeteers.
I've never seen this interview before, but as a huge Muppet Show fan, I just knew Rowlf was going to sing "You and I and George." Hearing Jim Henson just bust that out suddenly on an unwitting public was one of the greatest experiences of my life.
I wAs introduced to the Muppets through Rowlf on the Jimmy Dean show. Jimmy and Rowlf had a get together nearly every show, and it was always good. And I know that everything was probably written up and practiced ahead of time. But there was such a unique type of "bond" in-between Rowlf and Jimmy like two old close friends taking on life together. One highlight of a great old TV show.
Mine too. I believe this is probably his last appearance anywhere. The only other Muppet-related thing at the time was Sesame Street, and he never showed up there. And then when Jim Henson died the next year, Rowlf was permanently retired.
What a privilege for Levar Burton, and likewise for Kermit, and Jim Henson, to do Arsenio Hall together Kermit was a huge part of my childhood. I miss Jim terribly, how do today’s children get along without these characters?
There was something truly magical in this. Though the Muppets and the Muppet legacy have endured without him, it just isn't quite the same not having Jim Henson there.
The Muppet's is my childhood memories and I grew up on this show when I was growing up . The Muppet's is my favorite show and fragile rock and so on .....
Honestly, Arsenio was one of the best interviewers in late night. Even his fun questions for Kermit are more interesting than regular late night questions.
When Arsenio put Kermit on the spot with the Miss Piggy questions it sure looked like Levar was not having it. There are some lines you don't cross. #TeamPBS
Man I was thinking the same thing!!! Dude, really? Who in their right mind brings on Jim Henson and makes it awkward by asking sexual questions? I was cringing at that
Im so glad that others are saying this. Sexualising a kids puppet what an inappropriate idiot. No wonder arsenio has the name arse it stands for ars*hole
I doubt it was that big of a deal, but if I was in Arsenio's shoes, I would have talked to Henson about that whole thing beforehand. Of course, esp. on national tv, knowing how I am, that's prob. one of the very last things that would be on my mind...
This is Magic!! Jim is sitting there and EVERYONE is focused on the Muppets - even Arsenio who is sitting and interviewing his guest not even 2 feet away from him.
Pure Magic. With Jim right there even without the curtin to provide mystery. This performance is still nuanced ,sweet, natural. Then man's different qualities as a human being and dreamer breathe actual life into these puppets and characters. Truly amazing. The Jim ,Aresnio and the poster for sharing. Glad to grown up in this era
Rowlf was at the centre of all my favourite Muppets scenes. 'The Cat Came Back' being his greatest moment. God bless you Jim, for all the truly wonderful memories. And cheers to the whole Henson workshop.
All too often the greatness of a person can be measured by how easily everyone takes that person for granted until after they're gone. Few people exemplify that fact more than Jim Henson. Over the past half a century, that humble, kind-hearted, creative genius has touched literally billions of people's lives. There are times when I can't help but think that the world doesn't *deserve* angels like him.

The thing people don't understand now is that the guys doing the Muppets now may be able to mimic the voices of the original performers, but they can never bring the spirit and soul to the characters that Jim Henson and the others did.
A testament to Jim’s skill and talent...Kermit talks and I look solely at him. I try and look at Jim and I see his mouth moving but that’s Kermit talking. It’s like Jim’s the puppet and Kermit’s real.

This is classic Muppets! As soon as rowlf said “son of a B****,” I almost died laughing! That’s the first time I have ever heard a Muppet cuss! Also, RIP Jim Henson! You have brought happiness to many people!
Lol
The Muppets always had an adult edge to them if you watch closely. Even the early Sesame Street episodes before Elmo (gag!) became a thing and they started making it too baby-ish. That's why all age groups got something out of them.
Janis said, “the whole joint’s gone to Hell” in The Great Muppet Caper. She was the first to use a swear word
u misspelled Bitch :v
@@dan_hitchman007 Elmo straight up ruined Sesame Street imo.
I love Arsenio’s smile when Jim brings out Rowlf, you can tell that might be his favorite muppet ♥️
He probably asked for Rowlf to join Kermit on his show for that reason.
Rowlf was his first Muppet on television.
I remember Rowlf from the Jimmy Dean Show. He was actually a regular on the show. He and Jimmy would have about five minutes with one another each show. And other times he would have a session with a guest star. I looked forward to his portion of the show!
Rowlf was always one of my favorites.
I love how he visibly made Kermit uncomfortable.
There is such a peacefulness & innocence about Jim Henson. Jim Henson is a true American Legend and he'll be remembered for generations to come.
Kermit is basically jim hensons regular voice
Jason Smith voice goes lil higher in kermit
@@thealtchannel8653 Still... basically.
More like Ernie
@@thealtchannel8653 And more nasal, but who's counting...?
thats so smart with the sling so that kids dont question the second arm. wow.
"I'm a dog and I'm also a puppet"
The most fascinating thing about Kermit is his integrity. He has this groove of propriety and restraint that he never strays from. But he's not naïve. Jim was very careful to keep Kermit in that zone that parents trust. I'm old now and he's still a comforting presence.
And then rowlf "hey son of a bitch"
The man who had a billion friends he never met.
Rowlf explaining why he's wearing a sling is so meta. I love it!
Especially when he could of said something like "I broke my arm in a skiing accident"
RIP- the world lost a brilliant man. Losing Carol Spiney this week it is especially poignant
Poignant lmfao 🤣
Carroll Spinney.
RIP Jim Henson
Christian Tracey ❤️🙏👌✌️AM😇EN😇✌️👌🙏❤️
When will we ever see Jim's like again?
Can only imagine what he would be doing if he were still alive
It's astounding how talented Jim was. Even operating Kermit and Rolf on his lap in full view, they come to life to such an extent that I'm suddenly a kid again, watching The Muppet Show at 4:30 on Channel 13, Mon-Fri.
The cameraman stayed focused on the Muppet which is the way it should be.
Jim Henson is a person who comes around once. What a gift.
You brought a lot of happiness into this world, Jim. Thanks for everything you've done. We miss ya.
I must be super baked, when arsenio was talking to Kermit about how much money he makes I was like “dayum that’s cold blooded calling Jim out in front of Kermit like that” and then I was like “oh wait” truly a legend gone way before his prime imagine all the ideas he had that we can never see now rest easy man you definitely deserve it🙏
Time to put the bong down, now. Lol
I don't think you have to be loaded to feel some compassion for Kermit on that situation, we all know deep down that Kermit is alive.
🤣😂🤔🤪
Remembering how talented Henson was. Don't typically feel sad for celebrities passing, but Jim's passing made me cry. Such an amazing man and talented
Yes. Jim and Kermit came on an award show. Jim spoke in Kermit’s voice then he said, “excuse me. I have a frog in my throat.” The audience loved it.
I love how most people would wear fancy, expensive suits but Jim Henson wears a Sweater. He obviously didn't feel the need to impress anyone
A suit is all contrasts and sharp lines, it draws attention to the person wearing it. Jim Henson needed to be background textured, to make it easier to focus on the Muppets. So, fuzzy gray sweater.
Sesame Street and reading rainbow. I would watch it every day as a kid. And Mr Rogers neighboorhood
I have the boxed set of the latter. Lol
You can definitely hear kermit in his natural voice, but I'll have to say the muppets aren't quite the same without Jim.
This was exactly 2 weeks before I was born. God I wish Mr. Henson didn't pass away so soon. I can't watch any Muppets after 1990, it's just not the same. Jim Henson, Fred Rogers, come back . . . :(
Stephen R I grew up with them. Capt. Kangaroo too. Those were simpler, kinder times.❤️
Muppets Christmas Carol is quite good
I know how you feel. I did not know the man but I get emotional whenever I see footage of him. Saw a documentary and really linked him with to the voices and work on Sesame street before his death. Talented and creative human being. Gone too soon.
Watch "Jim Henson's The Storyteller" series. If you haven't seen it all ready I think you'll like it.
Stephen R ever saw their angels?
Even with Jim sitting right there. When Kermit and Rolf start talking, I just forget he's there. Such an amazing performer. Thank you, for all the great memories.
Jim henson does a fantastic job with all his characters. Sometimes I forget they aren't aren't real .they always make me happy I smile the second I see every characters
Kermit was always classy and took the high road
Kermit's first job was the inchworm on Ed Sullivan.
Yes
ALWAYS
LeVar Burton and Jim Henson, two of the most magical people are in the same room
I love the way Hensen did not "go there" when Arsenio tried to get a laugh by being sexually inappropriate.
Henson
@@danielgraham1082 Oops. Thanks.
I love it too and if Henson had not deflected Arsenio's naughtiness I'm sure Sesame Street workshop staff would have been upset.
I’m sure Henson was in on the joke and that joke only works when Henson doesn’t “go there”. Good teamwork
@@Mgmt Arsenio would mention something naughty in every single monologue, and I am not surprised he went there. Yes, once he had, Henson going there for more naughtiness would not have really added to the humor as well.
As many times as I've seen Jim Henson on talk shows, whenever he performs with a puppet, the interviewer always suddenly says "It's so strange, I'm talking to Kermit like he's real."
Henson and his gang were amazing puppeteers.
Jim Henson did more in his relatively short life to create genuine human happiness than any other person in the last 5000 years.
I cry whenever I hear Rainbow Connection ❤️... Jim, you still inspire us to this day, thank you.... RIP
Me too
Sooooo much childhood love for this... I teared up
8:35
It’s probably because I’ve listened to this part over and over, but something about that line seems so natural for Rowlf to say.
Totally!!!!
Jim, along with a few others like Mr. Rogers and Bob Ross, had that voice you could listen to all day it was so calm and peaceful.
Slow the playback speed down...lll
I've never seen this interview before, but as a huge Muppet Show fan, I just knew Rowlf was going to sing "You and I and George." Hearing Jim Henson just bust that out suddenly on an unwitting public was one of the greatest experiences of my life.
I miss Rowlf in stuff he was my favorite.
BigBarnV1 Rowlf is right behind Kermit on my list of favorite muppets
Rolf was the best, always cracked me up when he would spaz out on piano lol
@@MisterTwit that sucks
Watching Jim Henson Talk in Kermit's voice or Rowlf makes me flash back to a kid . Love the muppet show. RIP Jim Henson. 😢😢😢😢
What a privilege for Levar Burton, and likewise for Kermit, and Jim Henson, to do Arsenio Hall together Kermit was a huge part of my childhood. I miss Jim terribly, how do today’s children get along without these characters?
They don't, all they do is stare at their cell phones now
Jim Henson gave everyone such happiness and joy. It was terribly sad when he passed.
There was something truly magical in this. Though the Muppets and the Muppet legacy have endured without him, it just isn't quite the same not having Jim Henson there.
RIP Jim Henson we all miss you.
and love you as well.
this a real good video.
Only Jim Henson could say a cuss word and turn it into a joke.
Not only that, but a positive joke
The Muppet's is my childhood memories and I grew up on this show when I was growing up . The Muppet's is my favorite show and fragile rock and so on .....
Honestly, Arsenio was one of the best interviewers in late night. Even his fun questions for Kermit are more interesting than regular late night questions.
He was asking the DUMBEST questions. Luckily Jim handled it well.
I completely agree
That incredible Statler and Waldorf ending just flew over the audience's heads 🤣🤣🤣
Loved Jim Henson. So sad that he's gone. Can't hear that voice without hearing the soundtrack to my whole life. It's Kermit! It's Ernie!
I was cringing at that
I was half waiting for Kermit to beg LeVar to bail him out there lmao
Im so glad that others are saying this. Sexualising a kids puppet what an inappropriate idiot. No wonder arsenio has the name arse it stands for ars*hole
I doubt it was that big of a deal, but if I was in Arsenio's shoes, I would have talked to Henson about that whole thing beforehand. Of course, esp. on national tv, knowing how I am, that's prob. one of the very last things that would be on my mind...
Well, it was The Arsenio Hall Show--one would assume Henson knew what he was getting into.
Sadly this was just a year before Jim Henson's death
Matt Vivian Yes may he Rest In Peace 😭😭🤧🤧
Died the same day as Sammy Davis Jr
The year I was born didn’t get a chance to see him while he was alive rip Jim
Matt Vivian l
he died of a disease thats curable too! pneumonia!
Rowlf: "Heeeeeyyyy-y-y-y... Sonovabitch!!!" 😀
why is your comment so funny
This is Magic!!
Jim is sitting there and EVERYONE is focused on the Muppets - even Arsenio who is sitting and interviewing his guest not even 2 feet away from him.
THE GREATEST PUPPETEER EVER. JIM HENSON.. RIP
Ice Fire I admire anyone who can do that kind of work
'Nuff said.
Amen! He was and IS A GENIUS AND A TRUE MUPPET MASTER!
So odd how you can still separate puppet from actor even when you are watching the actor talk and move the puppet
Thats the magic and the brilliancy
JJHcars and yet you watch Kermit all the time -
soddof yet your and Mom watch ...... insert something creative mouth breather
4 *absolute* legends on stage at the same time!!
The look in Arsenio's eyes when he brought Rowlf out. 😁💜💜
He really likes that character
@@shenglongisback4688 I just watched it again. I didn't even realize Geordie was sitting there next to him! He had the Next Gen actors on there a lot. I miss Arsenio and Star Trek.
"In its only recording, 'You and I and George' sold only two copies. I got one and George got the other. Where were you?"-- Rolf the Dog on The Muppet Show.
I just love how Arsenio was so happy to have Jim and Kermit on his show, it was all over his face. 👍
It’s amazing how wholesome Kermit is.
Jim continues to be missed to this day. He strikes me as someone who would have been the most amazing grandfather.
Jim Henson what a Legend RIP
The thing people don't understand now is that the guys doing the Muppets now may be able to mimic the voices of the original performers, but they can never bring the spirit and soul to the characters that Jim Henson and the others did.
IDK, Steve Whitmire did bring a wonderful soulfulness to Kermit.
@@DrJekyll38 No he did not. Steve Whitmire ruined Kermit!
Don’t you go bashing the current Muppet performers! They’re just as incredible as the original performers and do just as great a job! 😡
A testament to Jim’s skill and talent...Kermit talks and I look solely at him. I try and look at Jim and I see his mouth moving but that’s Kermit talking. It’s like Jim’s the puppet and Kermit’s real.
I love the excitement on Arsenio's face when he asks if he can talk to Kermit and Rowlf. He looks like a giddy little kid and it's so sweet.
