I think this lens is still and will always be relevant. Reasonably-priced, amazing bokeh, low-light monster, and a superb sharp result. Personally, I really like the sharpness.
You Can’t call it reasonable price, it’s super cheap price for the value and the performance. Reasonable price should be some other canon lenses which cost around $1000
@@Life_Through_Galleries It's too cramped unless you know you have space and room to back up. So not recommended if you need to take wide shots of things.
@@gayleexplores4765 So I decided to get full frame mirrorless and an adapter so it'll scale back to that 50mm. Those things considered, and I should be okay for my reasons aforementioned?
I just bought this lens with the Canon 10-18mm f4.5 5.6, both for $125.00 total, to use with my Fringer adapter on both my Nikon Z30 and Nikon Zf. Playing with them on the Z30 first. On my Z30, it is about a 75mm lens (portrait length).
I recently purchased a Canon 70D because I want to do some podcasting from my home office, my set up is on my desk and the camera sits about 1-2feet away, I'll be sitting doing normal talking is this a good lens, I heard something about it not being good for Vlogging
Hi there. If you don't need to walk and talk style vlog it should do ok but ideally you'd want something a bit wider like a 24 or 35mm focal length for vlogging.
I'm not planning on moving on to mirrorless cameras yet, I like my canon 80d too much and the best thing is that all the ef lenses are getting so much cheaper now 😁😁
Our very first lens 😂 but quickly realized that it's not actually that great for run n gun vlogging. Awesome quality for the cost but I see it more as a photographers tool 🔧 📷 Question do you guys use filmora for editing?
Yeah it's not great really a vlogging lens at all! We use Premiere most of the time but we do use Filmora for our other projects and quick videos/social media etc
Just got one, near mint condition, £77. I used the old plastic mount version (mark II?) a few years ago, which I eventually broke. Hoping this one is better.
We absolutely LOVE this lens! Well, I finally made the jump and got the R5 and since I am planning to keep my EF lenses for a bit, I got the adapter so I can keep using it with the mirrorless camera. Great detailed review on this master lens Aaron and Wera!
i just got this lense ,ive been mostly doing nature and wild life photography and i needet something smaller than i have now, so i got this so i could do other type of pics too. so cant wait to try it. i have heard a lot good about this small but mighty lense.thanks for video.
Is it worth getting the "Nifty-Fifty" today? I own a M50 Mark II and really want to take my photography (mostly portrait) to the next level. Also I'm considering getting the Viltrox 0.71x Speed Booster adapter.
Got myself a used nifty fifty for £90, in great condition and they’re currently around €150 on Amazon right now so I got a great deal, such an amazing lens
I am learning so much from you guys, you are always doing an amazing job, honestly so professional and well explained! i have 2 lenses for my Canon, one is the 22 mm and the other one the standard one I think it's 45mm. I am very pleased with them and in the future I will add some others to my ''collection''!
Hi, I am a newbie planning to get this as a step up from my kitlens, can it also be used for landscape photography? Also, may I confirm if it can be fitted into an EF-S mount then used again for when I upgrade into a full-frame camera with EF mount? Thanks.
Great Video Rudy. Rudy smooth flow as usual top notch. This is a legendary lens. Cannot beat them those days including the awesome nikon 50mm 1.8.. But this lens can do wonders even today. I should try reviewing the Nikon lens in my new channel.
You guys work that 50mm lens don't you? Nice job! I think it would be interesting to see this compared to a more modern 50mm like the RF mount version.
I just got a canon 5d mk2 as a second camera finally. I film weddings as a hobby and was debating which lens to go with. You have just convinced me to go with the nifty fifty! Thanks!
I hope mirrorless doesn't kill DSLR. I like a real viewfinder! An EVF just isn't as good, unless you spend over 1K on the body...And even then, they drain the battery a lot more than shooting with a viewfinder. Thankfully, you can get a converter to use EF lenses on mirrorless mounts, but you cannot do the opposite...So if you get into mirrorless and buy lenses, and then (for some reason) get a DSLR, those mirrorless lenses will never work with it.

The first lens I had with my 40d back in 2008. Still have it but now on a 5d3.
They just work really well.
Canon 50mm is one of my first ever primes lens back in 2017 😊 still highly recommended for beginner 😊
Totally agree!
It is amazing! The only downside is that it acts like a 80mm on my 70D. So, indoors is really difficult unless you need detail shots.
So you wouldn't advise it for medium sized indoor venues?

This was my first ever lens! I sold it because the AF seemed to get worse after a few years but it was great at first.
The f1.8 was my first ever prime, a truly great little lens. I've since upgraded to the f1.4 for the better image quality
Good choice!

I have an old 58mm, it gives me pretty much 1:1 scale in the viewfinder (so maybe 59mm or 60mm is what my eye sees). :)

Had this lens years ago my one problem with it is that you end up using it so much that all your photos look the same thats why i like using zooms
That's a really good point actually!
Ohh need to try filmora. I actually got the mobile version🙂

Honestly I have seen them go for less than 50 quid on ebay so if you can get one on the cheap I'd still recommend!
@RudyVisuals Great!
Do you feel like it's slower when taking pictures or are you able to click multiple shots, just like the kit lens on the M50?
I love my nifty fifty ❤it's my favourite lens to take on vacations and to go around the town trying to be a street photographer 😂
Definitely a great choice for street photog!
Is this lens compatible to my Canon EOS 1500D?
Just got this lens and can't wait to try it out on my 250d camera
How do you like it? I also have 250d so just wondering
@@kvu1097 I really love it. Though, initially I was struggling with getting a better setting for it..but bit anymore
I don't think I know any photographers that did not start out with this lens. Great summary 👍
Thanks for watching!
On a Cannon M50 Mark 2 would I need a adapter to use the Nifty fifty lens ❔
You would yes!
Fantastic review. Having this lens, I think you nailed the review perfectly. I really appreciate your unbiased honest reviews.
Much appreciated!

Nice one!
Great video. I know it’s an older video but still relevant. I just picked up a pristine used lens for £45 on eBay. 👍
That's a great buy! Hope you enjoy it!
Thanks for this video. Is that a variable ND you are using? Which one?
Thank you! Yup it's a Hoya pro nd8 :)
Is this compatible with Canon EOS 2000d? Newbie here. Thanks for sharing this video. More power.
Yes it will work great with it but there will be a 1.6x crop so it will be more zoomed in than 50mm.
Looking for macro or zoom lens both searches brought me here. I have a canon T6i. Recommendations??

Canon should make their 50mm available as a kit lens, but then no one would actually buy the 18-55...
The funny thing is that back in like the canon ae1 days, they did used to come with a 50 1.8 as a standard kit lens!
I want to buy kit lens 18-55 please tell me where it is available
Beautiful video that I like ! Thank you for sharing .
Thank you very much!

Thanks man! Would love to see you review the Nikon version for sure!
Should I be worried about their being no IS on the lens?
I am planning on using it with an R8 which has no IBIS
If you plan to shoot video then yeah it's best to use it with a gimbal for smooth footage for best results.
@@RudyVisuals na just photos!
Nice review!
How about sharpness between EF50mm f1.8 and EF2470L mk II at 50mm?
Thank you! Sorry we don't have a mkii of that lens, but the 50mm is definitely sharper than the mark i version of that lens at 50mm.
Can i use this 50mm lens on my Canon Rebel T7??? Sorry im still a beginner very eager to learn lots more
Yes you can :)
is this a good combo with eosr100?
Hello Mr Aaron, very good video I like it 👍 I to have canon 50mm lens it take very good photos
Thank you :))
Good stuff … nice tee shirt ( eg hatch ) love Honda eg and ej1
So is it good for shooting video of people performing? Will it work with autofocus on a Canon T4i?
If they're moving quickly, like dancing, the focusing would probably be a bit too slow.
@@RudyVisuals Okay, thanks for your reply. Is there a zoom lens that will work for action video shoots?

Thanks! Yeah we defo need to include more direct comparisons in the future!
Is it great for doing model photos?
I use 50mm for model shoots all the time still :)
Very helpful, thanks
Glad it was helpful!
Is this compatible with Canon EOS 750D?
Yes it is but there will be a 1.6x crop
The price is definitely a big selling point for me!!
This lens is compatible to EOS m100 or do I need to get adaptor?
You would need an adapter for ef lenses
Great video and interesting lens review. Best regards and thank you for sharing. ThUp.
