Having owned one since 2016, I can say it performs much better than you would expect for the price point. The autofocus produces more consistent results than the 1.4 USM.
Super nice video! I really like your style, soothing and informative. And your photos look great too. I love getting good results with cheaper gear (still using the original Canon 5D and I have this lens as well).
Another great, small and cheap lens is the EF 40mm 2.8! It’s even tinier and looks almost like a lens cap. It has smoother bokeh and rendering than the 50mm STM in my opinion, despite being a bit wider. Both are great lenses though.

I value this lens mostly for low light situations. F 1.8 is lower than my other beginner and intermediate lenses and ties my EF 85mm 1.8. It is often carried as a back up lens when I plan to use some other lens. A backup lens is as important s a backup battery or SD card.
Indeed, it's really good in low light conditions. That's a good point about carrying a backup lens as well 🤔
Got my EF50mm f/1.8 STM lens today. Nothing can beat this lens in this price range. Put it on the 1D Mark IV and 1DX Mark II, and the relults was almost pro L -lens. How can a low budget lens(139€ here in Finland) be so good tool. It's really fun to use this little thing. It doesn't weigh anything, but yes it performs very very good results.

One question, would this lens work with m200 or would I need an adapter?
I'm glad you've enjoyed it :) You'd definitely need an adaptor. The M200 camera has an EF-M mount, so you need an adaptor in order to mount an EF lens on it.
the only reason to buy this lens is its price. if you have unlimited budget you should buy the 1.2L

I was going for the RF as my 1.4 broke which i repaired and sold
Especially on RF mount its so much more enjoyable without the EF RF adapter
And i say this as someone who normally prefer EF glass since i use the Meike Filter Adapter

got canon 6d with this lens for around $400 few days ago. i dunno why, but i like the pics i take with this combo more than i did when i had a6000 with 85 1.8. idk if it's the brand, the sensor size or just the focal lenght, but i love it.

Hey man great video! Which lens would u recommend between the 50mm f1.8 and the 24mm f2.8 for street photography in low light? (On a crop sensor) thank u 🙏🏻
I'd go with the 50mm f1.8. You'll get some more range on a crop sensor, and going down to f1.8 will allow you to get more light, without bumping up the ISO, or shutter speed.
