I have been a photogrpaher for 4 years now. I have used lenses worth as much as $5,000. The Nifty Fifty is the most versitle. Light weight, not obnoxious, great bokeh, sharp. You can always move around and get closer as needed. Definitely the best for Portraits and street.
Bought my first DSLR when i was 15 years old. The first “Trick” i learned was the reverse ring, took some amazing macro shots back when using dias film.
There were times when I had passion but no money. 20D + 50mm, 30D + 50mm.. It taught me a lot. Apsc making it 80mm was a challenge. Zooming with my feet stopped being an issue after a while. Then I got 5D Classic and 50mm STM. I own it 9 years. I got used to ff+50mm so much that I cant put it away today. 5Dc is still a pretty competitive camera even though it is from the year 2005. However, the need of a video and a wish, a dream to make a progress in gear, made me make an order for R6ii+rf50. Picking it up this friday. Cant wait for the new opportunities out there. Lacking the expensive gear made me realize and proved it is not about the gear. Ps - luv ur vids!

@@PaulHeimlund Also, I'm happy to be back on your channel, you kinda disappeared for a while and RUclips didn't notify me when you started posting again.
Fantastic lens! I went with the Tamron 24-70 2.8, which I’ve been happy with until recently, when it started focus-breathing. Maybe I should’ve gone with the Sigma ;)
I was expecting the usual “oh it’s a 1.8 which means bokeh” but this is probably the best video I have seen in a while about a 50mm. I really enjoyed this
Please keep uploading such great videos about 50mm. I am gonna get mine in just a few weeks, and will keep on following you to get the most out of my 50mm. Great inspirational content man. Learnt a lot of new things from you!
I currently use a canon m50 and a t5. I want to hear your opinion on if this lens is good for close up shots and videos of tattooing. I want nice close shots of the tattoo machine and the needles puncturing the skin. Do you recommend this lens or have any others in mind
You could get it for your t5. However, if you want to go even closer I’d get a macro lens for your M50. The Canon ef-m 28mm f3.5 could be a good option. Hope this helps ;)
Paul, I enjoyed this viseo very much. It was informative as well as entertaining. I shoot with a Nikon D5100, but I'm planning to upgrade to a 24 megapixel camera later this year. I prefer using a crop sensor camera because I'm primarily an ametuer landscape photographer. I bought my 50mm f1.8 lens to photograph our church's praise and worship team singing. I was using my 35mm prime lens but I was forced to move up close which can be distracting to the congregation. With my nifty fifty I can shoot from the back of the room. I do have a question. I shoot in manual mode. I don't shoot at f1.8, even though the lights are low, except on the stage. I know that shooting wide open can make my images slightly out of focus. I generally shoot at f2.8, 1/160th of a second, with auto ISO. My question is, since I am shooting from roughly 25 to 30 yards away from the stage, can I shoot at f1.8 or f2.2 without blurring my shots?
Hey James! Glad you enjoyed the video. Shooting at 1.8 with the 50mm might not create as sharp images as eg 2.8, but the image is not necessarily blurry. When I use my 50mm I usually shoot at 1.8, as the background gets blurry and it’s helpful in low light situations. So, you should be fine shooting between 1.8-2.2, especially if your deliveries are for web and social media. Remember you can always sharpen the images slightly in post, if necessary. Hope this helps and good luck ;)
Great video thanks. I have the Canon eos m50 , I use the viltrox speedbooster, Im planing to buy this 50mm lens, do you think its possible to flip around the lens and use it for macro as you said, take in mind i have to use the viltrox speedbooster.

I love this lens but had to learn the hard way about Viltrox M2 Speed Booster Mount ! At first it seem this lens was cool with the Speed Booster then focusing issues popped up somewhat. Press the Shutter button halfway down and the camera develops a focus mind of its own.
