In a few simple step taking the remote to bits and repairing common issues with the sky plus remote.
This is a cheap home fix to save money, in the long run, a sky remote is about £20 or so pounds and something, I cant replace every few months.
You need (Method 1)
- Butter knife
- cotton bud
You Need (Method 2)
- all of method 1
- super glue
- tin foil Хобби
you forgot to mention a very important step when taking the back off for the first time, remove the securing screw first !
Thanks so much for this video. I was on the verge of buying a new remote, but didn't want to add more plastic to the landfill. This video has solved my problems. Thanks to people who commented mentioning the screw in the battery compartment.
I'm going to try this .. I've bought 2 new sky remotes & I bet I could've fixed them both !! Thanks for this video 😁🔈
Just followed your cleaning instructions. Worked a treat . Many thanks.
Saved me €30, thanks! You don’t really even have to glue the piece of tinfoil in place. It shouldn’t move around too much 🤞
Thank you!! This is amazing, it worked :) I didn't even know I could take the back off!
Thank you!!!
I noticed that my remote wasn't working right, had to push the buttons really hard and sometimes they wouldn't work at all. I followed your instructions and even added a small piece of cardboard under the circuit board to stop it dropping down when pushing buttons. Now everything seems fine.
Thank you again.
Great fix! Many thanks
Brilliant - worked like a treat
This is an excellent solution. I opened up, not realising the guys at Sky have now 'conveniently' put a screw behind the battery compartment! Once that was out, I found a lot of watery fluid, more condensation or something on the rubber facia and circuit board. I cleaned that with a cloth, and also used the cotton buds to clear up any residue. Cut a piece of foil to size and stuck it on with adhesive rather than actual glue on the select button area. Put it all back together and its better than before. Buttons were not engaging before and you had to hold select down hard or the arrows to get any movement, which then made the screen cursor fly down the screen past the channel you actually wanted. Months of frustration over! I thought the remote had locked up as it was flashing two lights but after trying that solution and it didn't work, I tried this and want to say big thank you.
Did the job! Thanks
But to anyone having a go.... Remove battery cover, take out batteries and remove the small screw under where batteries go. That will let you take the front off, as shown in this vid.
Thanks a lot. It has worked for me. Keep the good work
Thx man, ima do this right now.
Worked!
thank you
Thanks mate, that just worked for me! Top man !
Wondering if you could use a hole punch to make a nice round piece of tin foil for this, when I try it I'll report back.
Great vid but on my remote there is a small cross headed screw between the batteries which has to be removed before the two halves of the casing come apart.
you forgot to mention removing the screw from the battery compartment!
Some of them don't have one 💁
I would not glue foil in to any electrical device, may cause a short and result in damage or fire if falls off and gets into other parts.
There is a better way of renewing the button contact patches but it is a secret 😊
Will pva glue work
I am unsure, I have only ever used superglue, however, in principle, it should work the glue is only there to hold the tin foil in place so as long as there is none on the front of the tin foil the connection between the contacts will be good but may not last as long before the foil came off
hope this helps.

pva generally relies on suction, ie paper wood etc so you will have to leave it a very long time to set, so i would advise using a glue like super glue which sets fast regardless of suction.....
Yes super glue works best.
Err ...Just one thing guys when you factor in the amount of time it takes to actually do this and the amount of TIMES that you have to do it, it sounds like false economy to me. A new £20 remote control seems cheaper. People seem to forget that time is money
Unless you have a teleporter to get you to Currys and back then shut the hell up 🙄
It don't work
I nearly ruined my cover because I didn't know you had to take the bloody screw out first, for fuck sake!
Ffa
Lost confidence in this video when you cannot even spell CAUSE in the titles!!!!
thanks buddy, might change it never noticed, I am dyslexic :D
