  • Hi, this video shows you how to fix a broken LG TV using a HEAT Gun. The HDMI Main board had failed so you could not connect any HDMI leads to the TV as it showed no signal. By using heat from a hot air heat gun it has fixed the faulty HDMI board.
    Please make sure you unplug the TV from the electric supply and fully understand the dangers of working with electric and electronics before opening up a TV.

    Very seldom do I find a RUclips “fix” that actually works. This didn’t work the first time. I figured I’d be buying a new board, so I gave it another dose of heat. 3 min on low, 1 min on high. I was stunned that it ACTUALLY WORKED! If it goes out again though, I’ll prob just buy a new set. They’re really cheap these days. Thanks Mate!

    This is my solution. Suddenly all of my HDMI ports from an 50 inch LG Tv stopped working. I've watched a lot of this videos. My HDMI ports were listed on the menu (that mean that they have power) but always showed NO SIGNAL. I've tried to use this method but decided to follow a youtube user advice, bought the chip that is responsible for HDMI ports (2 USD on ebay) and found a profissional that changed the chip on the board (a TV repair profissional) and voila...it now works. This is my advice. Change the chip.

    My Panasonic 3D TV (TX-L37etv5B) packed up and the dealer wanted £195 ($250) to replace the main board. I bought a new TV, but with nothing to lose I applied the heat gun treatment to the board and it's now working. Brilliant!

    Brilliant! My TV, a 10 year old LG 42LE5500 failed last night and I just tried this today with great success. FWIW, I have a lower power heat gun so I increased the time a good bit and measured the temperature with an IR thermometer to make sure it wasn't getting too hot. I had a small scare when reassembling and the TV didn't start up properly, but quickly realized the one of the ribbon cables wasn't inserted fully. After replacing the connector the TV works as well as it did when new.
    In case this is helpful, the peak temperature measured at just barely 300 degrees Fahrenheit. Also, there were no obvious issues with any of the components .

    This is the most ridiculous solution I have ever heard of to fix such an expensive piece of equipment. however, with my television no longer under warranty, I decided to try it. MENARDS has a heat gun for $15.00.
    $1500 tv 50" LG Plasma and a $15.00 solution.
    WOW ! ! !
    THANK YOU !!!
    I really didn't think that was going to work, but it did. !!AMAZING!!

    It worked!!! I did the hair dryer job and it worked today, 02/04/2021. Guys, I have a 42 inch LG LE5500 from 2010. All hdmi ports stopped working, so I disassembled and warmed up first for 1 minute and nothing. So I did it for 2 minutes and it came back ... but a little while it stopped again..then I did it for 2 more minutes and it came back. I tested it in the morning and now at lunch it was working ... well, the thing is, it worked. Tks for the advice and money saved

    Hi vince, Ive been fixing gpus and chips for years by heating up method. Let me clear something to everyone, that the heat wont solder back the joints accurately it might do but at high temp you will cause more damage to other components if the process repeated excessively.
    In fact the heat will just re arrange the chip layers for some time until they will come back to original layout over time this due to heat-cold exposure, So if you need to longer the period of the solution, you must cool down the chip with additional cooling solution, like adding fans or something else. Constant cooling will prevent the chip from having heat changes while its on operation.
    In your case you've got a usb power TV, therefore you can DIY a small 5v fan on the chip ( make sure to identify the over heated chip ) and power it up from the TV USB, so it will be on and off by the TV.
    Good luck

    • @Mymatevince
      @Mymatevince  8 лет назад +2

      Hi, thanks for the information. I wonder if a metal heat sink was stuck onto the chip if that would be enough to keep it cool to make it last longer rather than the USB fan?
      Thanks Vince

    • @iamamo2min595
      @iamamo2min595 8 лет назад +5

      +My Mate VINCE well remember that the chip is in its final lifespan, so any sort of heat would eventually turn it into a failure, and then you have to repeat the process all over,
      Regarding the heatsink method I wouldn't advise it, the reason heatsinks will only dissipate part of the heat unless you will use a pretty big one also the ambient temperature is crucial in this method, so if your TV will be in a super cool area then it might do the trick, otherwise it will be useless.
      But with the fan it always keep the chip at low temp and ignores the ambient effect, still you can try the heatsink and see the result.
      Cheers

    Ended up tossing mine in the oven (400F for 10 minutes) and it worked after that.. Heat's great for the short term but you likely won't get more than a couple months out of it, before needing to do it again. The solder on LG's boards is less than ideal, you'll likely need a repair shop eventually when you get tired of baking it. The smell from it is basically the smell of the solder, anyone who'd done that sort of repair work is likely familiar with it but it's not real bad. My TV is a 47LX6500, I wouldn't have even repaired it if it wasn't so impossible to find working 3D HDTVs now.

    Heat on an LG tv fixes a lot of the problems, as the biggest manufacturing flaw in those is solder joints, particularly on processors. they are very shitty cold joints. I made a shit ton of money and continue to do so on heat treating and reflowing processors on LG tv boards. Buy em cheap, cook em, and sell em high.

      Hi, it is still in use in my daughters bedroom but I now use the VGA port on the back (sometimes called PC) for the HDMI inputs by using a converter. From memory the fix lasted around 3 months and then I tried it again and it only lasted days. I got a HDMI to VGA adapter and also a HDMI switch and now the TV works perfectly again. It is still 1080p but the picture is analog so not quite as clear as digital but most people wouldn't be able to tell the difference. The 2 parts only cost £10-£15 and it is a better fix. See this video to see what I have done :-) ruclips.net/video/W-MR1UrHaMc/видео.html

    This dose work but you only need to heat up the flat chip at 5:11. Its similar to the playstation heating trick. It is possible to do it without taking the board off. RUclips is awesome! More permanent fix would be to apply a cooling fin or something to keep the heat down on that chip or board.
