If you don't already know me- hi, I'm Cheska! And I'm a film composer based in San Diego, CA :) I make videos documenting my journey and sharing the things I've learned along the way.
In this video, I share why I don't really care about Hollywood as a film composer and content creator. Hope you enjoy this shorter chat!
-Cheska
Amazing video! I also resonate with your values: I love freedom and being able to work at my own pace, instead of in a big production studio.
Glad you like it Hannah!
thanks for changing my mindset, this video helps😊😊
Glad I could be that person for you! :)
Thank you, Cheska. I understand perfectly what "I Don't Care..." means. I don't look at it as a negative trope, but I look at it as being influenced, dictated, and/or motivated by those types of things. When I was younger, yes..., most things that was popular were inspirational to me because at that time I was very impresionable, however, LIFE has a way of helping you define yourself at the proper time, and it's in those moments when you finally see what truly motivates, inspires, and causes a mature level of disipline for you to follow, that's not influenced from and by the "shinny things" but those things that "Truly Mater" to you and the path you're on and in. So, that's why "I Don't Care" Thanks (again) Cheska. HOME RUN with this.
Glad this one resonates with you Jaythan and I agree with everything you said!!
So good. I’m the same way. I have kids so I’m not trying to be a top 1% anything. I just want to work with good people who don’t mind that I can’t really leave my house 😂
I LOVE that 😂 Priorities. A huge motivator for me was wanting to stay home with my dogs since they're seniors now! Not the same as kids, but they do pee a lot more frequently and I wouldn't want an accident to happen 🤣
Absolutely agree! I’ve been putting off doing talking content and video essays because I hate my voice but I just need to do it and not care. Thanks for being so inspiring ✨
So glad I'm not alone! That was me for YEARS, haha sometimes I listen to my own videos to force myself to hear my voice and care less about it- kind of weird but I think it works
I really need to work on this. My feeling that the only way to "justify" being a film composer and be taken seriously is to do huge budget blockbuster films has gotten in the way of ever trying to do any real networking at all. The thing is, what I love is the creative process of making music, and what I want more than anything is to work with other creatives, so it's time to let go of the idea of the dream of hollywood.
I had the same exact feeling, and you summarized it perfectly. What has really inspired me is the rise in small creative businesses. People are documenting their journey on RUclips showing that it's possible to achieve your own version of success without working under giants. The same can happen to composers too!
Love this so much!
HEHE thanks Owen
I get what you’re saying. Everybody has different viewpoints on whether they care whether their project is tied to a big company or not. I personally get excited either way, but I absolutely FAINT whenever I get an opportunity to work with Disney, because it’s my dream company and blah blah blah. But when I work on indie projects, I’m thrilled!! and honored that someone liked me and admire my skill sets enough to bring me along to join the adventure. Thanks for another good video! Loving these chats.
I like your balanced perspective on being excited for all of it! I think younger me could have fallen into the "I would do anything to work with X company on a project" mindset and might've been taken advantage of, which was a recurring theme throughout my school years. Thanks for a great comment Erika, I'm learning from you too!
@@cheska_yo I feel ya on being taken advantage of. I’m learning how to communicate my boundaries and how to say no to higher ups without rubbing the wrong way. It’s still always nerve wracking to tell the director “yeah, no… I don’t want to move your car for you because uh, that’s kind of illegal?” 😂 !Next video idea request! Setting boundaries? “How to communicate boundaries to producers and directors without rubbing the wrong way” ?
@@erikafloresmusic hahaha 😭😂 yeah this one would be so interesting since it's something I want to learn more about! I recently had an experience where the work culture and creative approach was totally different from the indie filmmakers I'm used to collaborating with, and boundaries became super important. Adding this to the list for sure!!
@@cheska_yoyes!! So stoked to hear your perspective and experience on this topic. It’s definitely something we all need to overcome and learn to do well in order to maintain the friendship or relationship.
@@cheska_yo also, what camera do you use? Your picture quality is great! Maybe also add “RUclips gear” to your list of videos to shoot :) heheh I personally love those!
lets save us 7 min. u dont dream about it bcs there is youtube and social media where you can money out of ads. end of story
Yeah currently I'm not monetized for AdSense on RUclips and my content has never been sponsored. Also the views are so low on this video, I would make pennies LMAO
@@cheska_yo i was obviously talking about the "possibility" of making a living out of youtube. its obvious from your subscriber count that you're not making anything 😄
that being said, i wish u all the luck
@@TheTeeProd Oops, misunderstanding. I still wouldn't make a living out of ads alone though, most of it goes to RUclips 😂 It's just a platform. That's what products, services, and things like Patreon are for!
@@TheTeeProd lol aren't you toxic. Feel better.
