So refreshing to see the reality of someone who does work in the industry. As a beginner I've been lacking the perspective, but seeing you just noodling around without a real goal lifts a boulder off my shoulders. It's ok to just experiment and fumble around until you find a straw to grasp to. It's so great to see how messy the start of the composition process is also for someone like you.
I fumbled around when I first started learning film composing 5 years ago, and I still fumble around now haha I'm not a musical genius ! Glad I could help alleviate some of the pressure :)
Interesting video. I think the problem has to do with the way many people understand and use social media. Using it as your online personal avatar (think of the early days of Facebook back in 2005-2010) is completely different from using it as your business tool (for many people it has kind of replaced their websites). Trying to dial close to the intersection of both approaches can be problematic and honestly quite frustrating (cause there's no common ground). Think of sharing a very cool edited and produced 'pitchy' video in your family group chat or conversely sharing a photo of the muffins you baked yesterday in your professional website. It doesn't make any sense right? Many people do that with their social media and wonder why it doesn't quite work.
Totally get what you're saying- this is especially true on Instagram where you have a mix of professionals creating content and regular people who are just posting muffin pictures haha 😅 I've personally felt the lines blur of what I post as a composer and what I post for professional purposes vs. for fun. Finding that intersection of the two has been an interesting journey, even if there is no perfect balance!
I think if I did one of these videos it would be pretty much identical! 🤣 you and I work in a very, very similar way. 100% talk to myself as well! It’s so good to practice but writing to write is haaard isn’t it sometimes? I really struggle when I feel I have nothing to say? I think it’s why I often use moments from the books I read as stimuli for composing … it gives me a reason and with that I do end up practicing more! Thank you for sharing your process!! ❤❤
Hahaha glad I'm not alone!! It is indeed hard to practice writing, especially when it's been a while. I really like the idea of using books to inspire composing- I've thought of doing something similar in the past like maybe writing a bunch of music inspired by a book you read. Thank you for such a wonderful comment, I hope you'll enjoy all my future videos!!
Yeah, honestly Instagram is losing what made it special for creatives :/ Glad you enjoyed this format though!! I'm pretty sure it would work well for more of us in the composing community :)
Hi, Cheska. Thank you for sharing this vid, as I really get so much from your perspectives and process. BTW, what monitor are you using...? Thanks again for everything you share with us.
Thank you for sharing! I would like to someday have a zoom or live interaction with you as well. Currently looking for a job as a music composer for media. Sometimes i get tired. i think i may not be getting what i'd want to have in terms of a job maybe because i'm not using the right approach. I think instagram for me though is ok. and youtive is also cool. Keep up the great work!
Of course Pax, and thank you as always for supporting me! We should definitely set up a discovery call then so I can learn more about you and find a way to help. I'll send you a link!
Please do let me know when you send the link and if i should share my email to you on instagram to maybe send the link to my email. if that's ok with you.

So true - IG has become so exhausting. I love this unedited, raw style of content! Looking forward to more.
