If you don't already know me- hi, I'm Cheska! And I'm a film composer based in San Diego, CA :) I make videos documenting my journey and sharing the things I've learned along the way.

Following your dreams despite the shadow of failure quite simply IS the meaning of life. Whether you succeed or "fail", if you're not following your own path, you're following someone else's. Perhaps you're a gifted scientist, but you're most certainly a gifted musician. You're resourceful and imagining creative ways to realise your dreams. Some decades ago I needed to make similar decisions and thank God I did!! The seemingly impossible, can be.

I found this such a relatable experience! Not so much the Lab worker but the day to day grind with no improvements and that fear of being 60 and still working in that same monotonous white noise not being able to express oneself!

Bruh this is too real 😭 I work in data, and had my "scanning tubes of blood" moment a couple months ago. It's been a crazy grind since!

So glad you get it, the grind always grinding 🥲 It's just like, choose your grind! I definitely wouldn't have been able to take the leap without teaching and creating content which is honestly a second passion of mine. Some of the people I look up to teach piano lessons, perform at gigs, and compose for video games or films. The dream has always been to do something creative and musical!

I also have dealt with unsupportive family. I was a STEM kid who took all the AP classes and then went for a music degree… No regrets here 😊
Thank you so much Tara, that's so kind of you to say😭 I would love to hear your perspective too! I think if I had been surrounded by others who were able to think about what they wanted for themselves sooner, I would have done the same as you. Still, I have no regrets either! :)
As an aspiring film composer who has been grinding away as a weekend warrior for years, thank you. I’ve been feeling really disheartened, even after having taken a few composer career courses. But then I found your videos. So inspiring. I’m still gunning for my first gig after 3 years of pursuing composing as a career. I feel lost. I’m in my 50s, though. Still, your videos help me feel less alone. Again: thank you!
Michael!! I'm really happy to hear that you enjoyed this. I hope that my perspective has given you something new that can help you on your journey because it's why I made the video. My first 2 years pursuing composing as a career was also filled with lots of misses, so you're not alone in that either. I think we chose the best time to pursue film composing and there are more people (of all ages) wanting to tell stories than ever. P.S. Let me know you'd ever like to chat over Zoom sometime!

This video is so raw. The feeling of having to do something that your heart isn't fully in and it taking time outta your actual interest can be a major drag. However that moment of epiphany where you see yourself putting your foot down and pursuing what you really want is probably the BEST feeling ever. This felt like a friendly chat, thanks for the vid cheska! Love it :))))
