A portrait of the U.S. Naval Academy's 1976 plebe year, from the new midshipmen's training to their first summer cruise. The video also shows first female midshipmen in their first plebe class.

I've never seen this and was not even aware that a film company was around shooting footage of us back then. Such a surprise to see my old roommate having his ID photo taken, and my platoon marching down the steps singing "What Shall We Do With a Drunken Sailor?" Hard to believe we were ever that young.
+snwiley76 Glad you got to see this and thanks for your service to our great nation.
That's my USNA '76 roommate and my wife's cousin, Doc Doherty, at about 1:00 in the movie.
This brought back many memories. When the camera panned the crowd on I-Day 1972 they captured my parents at minute 4:40. Both my Mom & Dad have passed away. Also in the film credits up front is CDR Robert K. Lewis who was the USNA PAO and the plebe sponsor for me and my roommate. The PEP shots with Heinz Lentz - who can forget "You're looking Good '76!"
+Bill Kneller Thanks for your service to our great nation.
And 20 years after your Plebe year, our class ('96) had the honor of being Heinz Lentz's last PEP class. The only difference was the amount of gray, the energy was the same. Very cool to see this!
USNA '76 Classmate Mike Kelly beginning at 3:54 in the film.
This video is actually older than 1976. I entered the academy in 1975 as a Plebe (Class of '79, the last all-male class) and I recall seeing this video as a candidate. They simply took the same video and dubbed in a few females.
+David Emerling My uncle was also Class of '79, or as my grandfather (and many others, no doubt) referred to it, the LCWB .
Last Class With Balls.
The feminization of the US military and downfall of the west continues.
They always claim "it's only limited roles, non-combat, etc.," but the objective is complete destruction of western civilization.
One cannot ultimately make a sound case based on a half truth: "It's ok for women in the military, but not combat roles" Decades of ignorantly allowing that fallacy has left the door open and now the "fighting forces" are psychologically and physically second rate.
Some of the elite elements are trying to hold out, but they too are doomed to demise by using the same failed argument.
It's the moral character of the military that matters most, and it reflects the future hope of the nation it serves. The word for a morally intact military is Honor. The degradation, femization, and perversion of that culture is dishonor.
@@semperintrepidus16 James Webb wrote this in the summer of 1979, shortly after my class (last all-male class) graduated and, for the first time, women were in the senior class, in charge of the Brigade. This article appeared in the Washingtonian and ultimately became a political liability for Webb. The subject matter did not age well in the world of political correctness that was to come.

This is correct. This was a earlier movie updated to add the woman that came in the summer of 1976.
I saw it in 1974 or 5 in high school before joining the class of 1979 in July 1975 .
The original won an award of some kind .

At 5:30 Coach Heinz Lenz. Led PEP for decades, with a German accent.

This film is mis-labeled. It is later classes spliced into the film made about our class (1976) and our plebe year. How do I know? I'm one of the sweaty sit-up mids at P.E.P. (physical education program), and we had no young ladies in our class. Women didn't show up until after we graduated in 1976. Our plebes, class of 1979, had "Omnes Viri" (All Men) as their motto, and the first women graduated in the class of 1980. Just didn't want anyone thinking the class of 1976 wasn't all-men.
+Your Friend Great comment.
Huh. It is calendar 1976... first day of Plebe year is in 1976. Graduation is four years later in 1980.
Former STS-121 astronaut, Lisa Nowak, at 4:34 in the front.
That doesn't look like her. She graduated in 1985.
WOW
Wow... this seems so dated, yet these folk were only 4 classes ahead of me. I feel like listening to disco or something.
I like this have any west point
Helpful! lol
my son went to the Marine Military Academy in the early 1980's. ( 1980-1984). These interactions are nothing compared to what was at MMA. You were physically "punished " at the end of ANY contact with an upper classmen. Mostly in the form of pushups and other physical activities. Also, i noticed they arent taking off their covers indoors. In the military, you always take your hat off inside. Its never allowed to wear indoors. This is really strange to see in this video. I know that they are on film but at my sons military school, it was NEVER this casual filmed or not filmed.
That was a boys school for grades 7 - 12. The Naval Academy is for big boys and girls. I hope your child had fun.
A lot has changed but a lot is the same
47th link in the chain since this was filmed. beat army.
