My brother is currently at the naval academy and is a plebe this year. In high school, he wasn't that athletic or strong, just really tall and lanky. He was given the principal nomination from our state's senator and the Naval Academy has completely changed his life. He made it through Plebe Summer and now he has really developed into a wonderful human being. I never saw him as someone that would go into the military, but now I can't see him doing anything else with his life. He is proud to be attending the Naval Academy and to someday serve our country. I am such a proud sister and I love him so much.

I've had the great honor of serving for this great nation.... my brother was a navy man and traveled to all corners of the earth as an officer .... he also had his training at the academy. My uncle taught computer science at the academy.. if they where both alive today and seen what it has become they both would hang there heads..... when they look at the new training as it has lowered it'sstandards- highschool reunion with them running around and laughing and jumping up and down..... I'm sure you heard older people say.... when I was young and so on.... BUT.... I was there to visit a few times when he had 4 min to spare each time....that's right 4 min...I could see other classes training and I can tell you this all I saw was pure determination all I saw was highly motivated soldiers all I saw was hard core camitmemt to very difficult training. I know this, they showed upon completion that they could lead soldiers into life or death conflict. I think the key word is LEADERSHIP........ NOW TELL ME WHAT YOU SAW WHEN YOU LOOKED AT OUR FUTURE.... do you see leaders that well
Command on a nuclear sub or battle ship or aircraft carrier or choose to be navy seals.. absolutely not....they lack total discipline, commitment to strict mindset.... I'm am very worried
For this country .... the softness.. the way the academy caters to these little kids...... are u fucken kidding me....this is it; this is our future..... I didn't want to tell you my story but if I had the time I would talk about the soldiers that served and died.... but I won't talk about that eather... but what I will talk about is how they lived and the comment, discipline, honor and the will to lead. I always say.....we stand on the shoulders of all who served and paid the ultimate price... so far from loved one's, in some far away land fighting for the freedoms we now enjoy.... THERE NOT EVEN CLOSE FOR FIRST YR... when I was going through training.....hahaha I bet you thought I was going to tell you the same old thing...... but what I will tell you is how they lived.

Folks, I can't get what the problem is - I have seen a tone of comments like " oh, man, it's so competitive to get in NAVAL ACADEMY or so low acceptance". Just go to obtain BS in any university and then enter to OCS. Done. You are a NAVY officer.

    • @louiseking4519
      @louiseking4519 2 года назад

Officer yes, but to be a Naval Academy Grad is whole different level. Also, no top Generals without Naval Academy. If your goal is just do the minimum I don't think you would make an officer. I sure our standers are higher. Daughter went to the Naval Academy, Grandson now in USAF Academy. Our Great Grand-Parents, our parents, we served and all our kids served. As well as Grands are all in. I am proud of our families patriotism.

    This ain't BUD s baby .
And to think , they try and make it seem as though it's very tough !
However , I don't see any log carrying or Surf Torture , or eating slop out of the trash cans after 3 days of non stop running without sleep , or being handcuffed and thrown into a 15 foot deep swimming poll and told
hang in there for 30 mins , or until you pass out unconscious and given CPR to save your life ....
So please , let's not mis represent our new Hero s .
I do believe the propaganda is a bit much.
The portion , concerning the training
at BUDS if very accurate. This ain't don't ask , don't tell .
Oh yes , I forgot the part about being airborne ??? Darn , slipped my mind ...
You're not afraid of heights are you ???
Cause they're going to train you how to Jump outta a C - 130 Hercules at 25,000 ft
while on Oxygen and opening your parachute at 1,200 ft
Called Halo jumps as normal BUDS training .
Oh yes , doing this at night , all this prior to the mission , then rally and swim out to sea and get picked up by a Submarine ....
Yes our hero s here are
    really pushing it .
    You must be joking.

+Golden Manuever I am quite sure I would not trust your Harvard or Yale grad with operating my nuclear reactor, custody of 32 thermonuclear warhead missiles or primary responsibility for a 600 member ships crew. That takes smart, disciplined adults. So go burn mommy's money at a party school, we'll keep the country safe after you pass out in the yard.

      +navyvetvoice
You know nothing of higher education if you think Harvard and Yale are "party schools". Harvard frequently gets ranked the #1 university... in the *world*, with Yale right up there with it . You have to be smart and disciplined years before you ever apply to be excellent enough just to be admitted, let alone earn your degree, because these universities select an even smaller percentage of their applicants than any of the US service academies.
And while the USNA has an excellent undergraduate engineering program, the academy produces only a minority of the Navy's officers, with most coming out of NROTC and OCS. Which means that the Navy for a long time now has often been trusting _your_ nuclear powerplants, thermonuclear weapons, and the command of ships to officers who graduated from civilian colleges and universities. A few of them may come from the very top tier of schools, such as Harvard and Yale, but the vast majority will have attended somewhat lesser "party schools".
Certainly the Navy thinks more highly of Harvard than you do. As an inducement to recruit graduates to become the officers of its nuclear submarines, the Navy touts its post-OCS training programs:
_"This includes an academic curriculum that is recognized as one of the most difficult in the world - rivaling the top-notch nuclear programs at universities such as Harvard and MIT."_
      (Page 3, second paragraph, www.navy.com/dam/Navy/Navy-IMG/Downloads/pdf/officer/sub_of-brochure.pdf)

Lets not pretend that the ivy league schools are the top tier any longer.
Now they are for the rich and famous and dirt poor but very intelligent.
Harvard is for the rich, by the rich and is rich. As for their engineering schools they take a back seat to the Naval Academy. And Ga tec, Mit, even Mudd. have never met a Harvard engineer, but know a lot of very skilled public university engineers. Your democratic elitism is showing.
