I loved when my grandma cooked this. God rest her soul. She passed last month and I will miss her dearly, especially for this being our first Thanksgiving without her. She was the glue to our family. 😢 Great video as always!

I grew up on butter bean, I remember going in the back yard picking them. These are my mom's favorite beans she's 87yrs old. I made some about a week ago.
I loved lima beans, and my mom more often served pinto beans. My parents were from South Carolina so I ate rice every day except for Sunday. This video is about memories for me as well.
@Beautiful mil We are, it's a rich heritage. I'm in my late 60s and I have researched it since my youth. In my early teens, I thought it was something to be ashamed of because of teasing, and some people trying to bully me. Lol! They didn't know I was a warrior.
My Mom, may God rest her Soul, made Lima beans and biscuits for dinner for us. I couldn't stand it. Only appreciated the flavor and texture of the Lima beans and turkey necks as an adult. And guess what, I'm making this for dinner next week for my children and I. Biscuits too... homemade. Thanks A.B. for your inspiration.
Now this is what I call soul/country cookin at it's best. I'm 70 years old and fondly remember having this dish as a child back in Virginia. Mmmmmmm!!!!!! My Dad preferred this dish with Pinto beans.
Grandpa was born in 1900 on an Ohio farm with 13 siblings. Made his beans with baby limas and ham hocks, celery, onion and carrot. Served it over a slice of bread with black pepper. I always have beans in the pantry in case a ham bone comes my way.
Oh, man! I There ain't no food like soul food. Lived in South Louisiana in the 70's and learned to love beans and every once in a while I try to cook some. I just made some nasty beans is what brought me here. I'm a lousy cook, but I'm gonna give your recipe a try. Thank you for you. Wish I could join you to finish off a big 'ol bowl of your beans.
Man you are bringing back to my childhood! Not only did my dad make these, he would take us to a restaurant in San Francisco that made them, and we LOVED them! I will definitely be making these!!! Thank you! 😲❤️😋🤤
This was one of my dad's favorites and I make them often. In fact, just cooked some the other day. Since it's just me and I don't need to cook a big pot of beans, I learned how to make the frozen baby lima beans taste almost as good as the dry beans. I cook them with pieces of ham or turkey tails, whatever I have on hand, and season the broth with garlic, onion and a little Maggi chicken flavor bouillon before I even add in the frozen beans. Let them simmer for about an hour. Of course, I make some hot water cornbread to go along with it. And that is some good eating!
This looks amazing!! I think I'd also sautee some onion and garlic before adding the broth. And def have some hot sauce on top.. Thanks for the awesome recipes!
I was thinking something like that, just Mexican style: toss a scored whole onion in at the beginning with the drumstick. I'd also add whole black peppercorns instead of ground pepper, but that's just me.
Bacon. I’m from South Carolina , Charleston to be exact and we make the best Lima beans hands down. Sauté your garlic and onion in bacon oil , THEN add your water for the necks / ham hocks
My beautiful Mema has been in Heaven for a short time now and seeing that recipe reminds me of her. I'm looking forward to trying this and hopefully coming close to her amazing recipe and reminiscing some.
Love the way you cook you cook that's like I do love you keep doing what you doing you are a terrific cook the beans look good you cook good your clean cook congrats to you I turned my son onto you cuz I'm getting older and you cook the same way I cooking I told him to follow what you're saying and then you got what Ida way I cook congrats to you
Looks Great. Have not used smoked turkey leg. We had baby limas today. 2 pounds dry baby lima beans, 1 pound bacon, 1 can habernaru Rotel tomatoes, onion, bell pepper, jalapeños, garlic, Tony Chachere's creole seasoning.
Glad to be the first to say welcome aboard we've been waiting for some delicious dishes. Please make quite a few different Pop-pies from beef, turkey, lamb, curry goat 🤔😇🥰✨🍷. Doing something different and creative A.B. had to leave to comments such a delicious dish right on point
I am an old white country boy and I have to tell you that is my kind of food. I am a also lazy. I even like Margaret Homes Seasoned Butter Beans. I am going to get some ham cubes tomorrow and cook up a pot.
It’s been so long since I’ve had these! My mom used to make these. I really miss this and my moms cabbage. So good!!! I’m so glad I found your channel! It’s a southerners dream!

Oh, my my that looks so delicious! I fell in love with Butter Beans when I lived in NC. Back in Minnesota I have to really search for dried Butter Beans. I’m gonna be cook’n this for sure. I favor Ham Hocks for my Northern Beans, Pinto or Split Pea. But I am gonna try this Smoked Turkey leg for sure. Tons of flavor and meat on that baby. I am gonna add this to Winter soup rotation. I think some nice thick Pumpernickel Bread would really finish off this meal. Love you. Thanks for sharing..
Looks great! But yeah I'm missing the onion and garlic. I prefer the baby limas which seem to be less mealy. Love your channel man!! That exposing grandma line is HILARIOUS 😂
My daughter is a chef, and she told me about Better than Bouillon. I'm incorporating legumes into my diet because I'm adopting the modified Mediterranean Diet. Thank you for this video. I LOVE lima/butter beans. 💜
This looks just like my mother's Lima beans. I won't even touch anyone else's Lima beans because I had bad experiences when I tried other people's recipes. I'm definitely making these! Thank you AB!
this is gonna be incredible really happy to be able to test this one out especially during the holidays when the dishes can be sentiment to others . keep raising the fire because the heat of your recipes are mind blowing .🔥🔥🔥
One of my favorite dishes when I was younger was limabeans and rice with fried chicken wings and cornbread. I hadn't recreated it because I wasn't sure how to make the beans. Will be making this very soon. Thanks A.B.!
AB, growing up in the South, I ate every kind of bean there is but I never cared for butter beans or Lima beans. Until I bought Thelma Brigham’s butter bean supper at a church potluck auction. Those were the best ever. I’ll probably use baby lima beans, though. Good work.
My favorite meal of all time. When I was young my grandma made that. I like Lima beans so much I used the canned ones with butter in the microwave when I got a bit older because I didn’t know how to cook at that time.
I am making this right now. I put my smoked turkey in the crockpot this time and let it cook overnight and I added my beans this morning and I add a stick of unsalted butter and some tomatoes. I cannot wait until these bad boys are done. I may make some rice to go with them and some honey cornbread. I also like fried chicken wings w/my beans. Idk about cooking the chicken. I just need my Lima Beans and my smoked turkey for REAL!!!
Love sum limas with that whole okra too! Omgee made sum yesterday it was fire, 😁but that's old soul food cooking I loves, new school not feeling thee okra! 🤦♀️Lol
I'm glad you made this Mr. A.B. It's one of my favorites. I do service work. I'll put mine in the crockpot in the morning and my dinner will be waiting on me. Great channel.

Your grandpa was a G, im going to try his recipe thanks.
It's the ONLY way, I make mine SAME way, Kentucky born & raised. * 66*,,, only I do Cornbread Or Corncakes!! Blessed
Celery onion and carrot would be excellent in this recipe. So would ham.
How much celery, onion and carrot? When should I put them in? When it’s halfway done? Thank you
My girl’s favorite is butter beans so I gotta try this for her.
Dried Lima beans with smoked ham hocks, salmon croquettes and potato salad was a meal we ate often. Yummy!
This sounds so good, I will be making this sometime after Thanksgiving.
That sounds good. We used to eat it with fried chicken and biscuits.
Love it!!
I made salmon croquettes for the first time a few months ago and my son loved them so much he ate 6 of them.
I watch all his videos for advice I used Turkey tails

Yes sir that’s the business right there. Bring back memories of my dad making Lima beans in the kitchen.
Yo! I finally made it. I ended up putting 3 tablespoons of salted butter and I made it with Brussels sprouts and cornbread.🔥
Ham hocks and limas- I made this every year for my dad’s birthday and Father’s Day. I still make it in his memory every January 10th.
