- When Tristán was younger, he remembered seeing children asking for money with a homemade effigy of Guy Fawkes, a tradition known as "Penny for the Guy". You never see it any more. Tristán and Sharon wondered what would happen if they revived it. With real children. Would people know what it meant? What reaction would we get? Watch our video and find out, as they hit the streets of Barnet. We also show you how we made the Guy, in case that is what you are looking to do yourselves.

Bravo! I remember this in the 80s just before it died out: I must have caught it in my own life by only a few years. It's a joyous, creative and entrepreneurial thing for kids to do.
Thank you letting us take part in this episode. We had a great time !
Thank you! It was such fun. And the fireworks were great too!
I'm an American, and I've known about Penny for the Guy for a long time. But that should be no surprise after I tell you that fireworks, and coins from the UK, particularly the Penny, are absolutely fascinating to me. My favorite, the large pre-decimal, was last made the year I was born. (English, but not Irish)
Wish I was there, I could have given you some of those big Pennies.
This is sad to hear.
I lived in UK as a kid for a few years in 60's.
It was a great fun thing to do.
One year the money we got was spent on cookies for the old folk at the local residential establishment..
Hi to Farnborough.
Thanks. Yes, very few people under the age of 30 even knew what we were doing. It was quite fun but, as you say, quite sad. However, hopefully more people will do it after watching this video!
This is brilliant, watched it to the end, one of Yo best ever videos! x (from one -GuY- to another...)
Thank you for the great feedback!!
Absolutely brilliant I was literally talking to my step kids this bonfire night about penny for the guy and none of them knew so going to do one next yeah
That's great! You must let us know how you get on in 2023!
@@LoveYourLondon will do
Great idea for a video
Thank you! 🙂
Guys.
I've noticed you've been drinking quite a bit on camera.
It is your responsibility to do the moral thing.
You are supposed to be a family-friendly channel, therefore it is very unwise and not sensible that you should be doing this on camera.
It would be even even better if u can kick the drinking habit altogether.
You'd both be doing yourselves a good deed.
It's quite hard to review pubs etc and not partake in their drinks, plus walking up to 11 miles a day (we tend to film three or four episodes in one day) is thirsty work! However, your feedback is noted and appreciated. :-)
You carry on drinking my friend. It is up to the parents to teach their kids.
