For the people that don't know what DTM stands for. It stands for Direct To Metal and is a awesome product and I have used it many times over my 20 years painting. I love painting and I love watching all of your videos just for a little refresher every once in a while. Always have to keep up with the painting trade because different products come out all the time. So if you don't pay attention to whats coming out or whats changing in the painting trade you will be screwed. ChrisThank You for all your videos that you have put out and even though I have been painting for 20 years I always love to learn new techniques from other professional painters as yourself. You guys do a great job especially with prepping and as you know prepping makes the job. Keep up the hard work and it seems like you have a great crew and you guys work together like a well oiled machine. I don't have a crew right now. I just started my own business and I usually do the work myself or when I have the chance to get my good friend who works for another paint company. I don't mind working by myself but sometimes it gets a little boring but I have to start somewhere and hopefully I will grow and be able to hire a few guys next season if everything goes right. Sorry for the rant but I really enjoy watching your videos just to see how another painter goes about doing his job. Like the clear caulk over the tape to get a crisp clean line. I never used it before watching your vids and now I use it and it works out awesome. Thanks again and happy painting out in Idaho.
As always top class work great seeing a painter who knows his stuff
Thank you 🤙
MEN U R A NICEST GUY CAN;T STOP WATCHING YOU VIDEOS VERY PROFESSIONAL AND A GOOD TEACHER TOO GREETING FROM BRASIL
Excellent communication skills and great/detailed video presentations as always.
Thank you sir.
Professional video tip: SHOW THE FINAL PRODUCT!
OMG! i just screamed this out loud and scrolled down to see this message.
Would this be the same process used to refurbish aluminum sliding doors and the doorframes built in a mid-century modern home? Thank you for your help!!
Love your video. Can you tell me the name, type and finish of black paint you recommend for aluminum Anderson windows?
JP handles the power washer like an M16
lol
Looks great. Good video.
How does paint hold up to the moving elements on a window, like slidong windows or sliding doors? Doesn't the paint just scrape off over time?
Great video thanks. Inspired me (from New Zealand) to repaint my aluminium joinery. Im going to use an etch primmer and spay white from silver
Did you do this in the end? I’m also from NZ, would you recommend? Did it hold up well to the elements?
@@compositecomposure
Not sure what products you have in NZ but you can use spray cans. I am in AUS
Eg, dulux primer and the duramax for topcoat is a fast drying product that is used by painters.
I am currently using the dulux metalshield spray cans and I like the finish, cant comment on durability yet as I have just done.
I went the metalshield as I then have the option to do the rest with the 4l tin out of my airless sprayer to save on cost. vs convience of a spray can.
I imagine they are similar, the duramax & the metalshield. The duramax is meant to be an advanced enamel if you just want the best result. Hope it helps!
These products are epoxy enamels made for use over bare metal. You can do over previous painted surfaces as shown in the video just use the primer that the tin recommends. They do also say primer not required, however if you are changing color by a lot best to use a grey / white undercoat to make the new color show through with less coats.
great job!
Ok, I'll use Resilience then. I am using DTM Bonding over all the vertical trim, fascia, and gutters because of peeling. The body of the building has a chalky surface but is not peeling. I am going to power wash with turbo nozzle, but I'm figuring on one coat of DTM Bonding Primer and one coat of Resilience. Do I need two coats?
Hey Chris, I was wondering what kind of paint you are using and what you like using for metal buildings? I use all Sherwin Williams stuff too and am about to start 2 metal building repaints and I was going to use either Resilience or DTM Industrial coating
You and your crew are good maskers...never get any bleed through on your non painting surface...? "Spray everything"
do you prefer a brand of paint. im used to using super spec Benjamin moore dtm alkyd gloss enamel to paint steel. . you think I can spray that on aluminum after the bonding primer
How long does the paint last on windows
Also interested to find this out
what is the brand of the airless machine please which one is the best in your opinion thanks great videos greetings from brazil
So do you pull the tape after the primer is pt on and then retake before putting on the black top coat?
There are some many better products then DTM to use. We use all 2 part expoys on them frames. 1 the color retention is way better dtm will be nicked and scrached off within a year or so. How come you don’t use a hvlp? I’ll bet the orange peel was very bad on that. Specially with DTM that product don’t lay down smooth.
Can aluminum glass sliding doors be painter using a brush instead of a spray can? If so, what type of paint do you recommend?
Not ideal
Thanks for the reply. I'm curious if the factory uses a two coat method as well 1 primer 1 paint? I'm not asking expecting you to know, just curious.
I'm curious why you didn't put 2 coats over the primer?
I don’t think anyone who sprays ever comes back and sprays a second coat with the exception of cabinets. That’s mainly to give them that last final check to leave that amazing finish . As for every painter I’ve ever known and worked around everything else gets sprayed once and it leave a very good , consistent finish and coverage . Ceilings = spray once and done , Walls = spray once and done , baseboard , crown , door casings = spray once and done , with a primer coat of course . But yea really no reason to spray 2 times the finish is great . Got good coverage that is also assuming the guy behind the gun knows what he is doing
Aaaaand now I feel stupid cause I just seen you asked that question 9 years ago and probably own a huuuuuuge successful painting business and figured that answer out 8 years ago and prob do not even check RUclips anymore as your to busy counting your money so I’ll just leave now
In this instance, I'm wondering why you didn't just use a brush to apply the primer and finish coat(s). It seems like a lot of time and money wasted on masking off the windows and then later needing to clean the equipment. Were you looking to obtain the finish a sprayer leaves versus what a brush will leave? Thanks!
hello can you still get this paint from Sherwin Williams
Excellent Video
why did you not have bridging from the first primer coat?
nice
Thank you!
do you use the same pump fo oil and latex paints?
Hi what is the name of the spray gun you were using ?
Airless spray?
No resperators when spraying? Can be a Little rough on the lungs.
Respirators are a must, we take them off to speak while filming
What was the pressure set at?
maybe I didn't ask my question correctly... you painted the primer on and it dried... then you painted the black on ... but why didn't the primer cause it to rip the paint off when you pulled the tape
+The Idaho Painter oh OK thanks.. I see all your verses that pop up i myself am a Christian. I got saved 5 years ago. maybe consider posting your testimony?

Can someone tell me the reason for sanding the metal? Why can’t you go without sanding?
Many reason . Without being on the job physically I couldn’t tell you which one was his main reason because we can not see the condition of the previous paint job through a video the way he can in person . You want to sand a previously painted surface just to smooth it out so when you paint again it leaves that beautiful finish that only another painter will notice and appreciate lol . It smooths out paint that was chipping / flaking , maybe rusted areas , maybe the previous painted left gunk in his paint and it dried in the finish who knows, but just to give you a clean canvas to drop your paint on . Reason #2 it roughens up the surface a bit to give your paint something to grab on to . For example say your painting the outside of a paint bucket . It’s slick , and non porous meaning the paint had nothing to really absorb into or grab onto so it can really stick. So once it dries you can walk right up and peel it right off like nothing . Now let’s say you take that same bucket and sand the outside of it a bit just to rough it up a bit . Now you’ve given that paint a surface to really grab / bite onto and you are not going to be able to just peel that paint off like you did to then bucket when you did not sand it . Hope this helped . In his situation I personally feel he did not
Need primer as paint sticks to paint just fine as long as you are using the same base . Such as oil on oil or latex on latex but it still did not hurt and gave him that piece of mind to sleep better knowing he went the best fail proof route . But again me personally if the last paint job was still holding up good which it seemed to be in the video . Cause it just looked dirty and faded . But if their was no paint peeling and it seemed solid I would have washed it , sanded it , sealed any cracks that opened up and shot another finish coat right over that one . But again he did nothing wrong and what he felt needed to be done . He’s successful for a reason . Hope I answered your question though
Just don’t forget to cover the plants or you might have to pay to replace them.

310 is too wide a tip for such small frames. You mentioned 210 which is the perfect choice, even 208.
what ever happend to your two latin workers in this video?
Not a single person wearing a protective face mask. Is it ok to inhale that chemical??
absolutely not. these guys will have lung cancer and prostate cancer for sure
Could you tell me what kind of paint you used and the brand please.
