Dude, you are an absolute legend. Thanks for sharing your knowledge....If I was 20yrs younger(and in your state) I would be trying to hit you up for an apprenticeship. Keep on being awesome
Turned out great thanks to your tips Josh! Went straight on with satin duramax on my old brown frames. For anyone attempting this at home, a cheap tape dispenser makes this a much faster job if you have a couple windows/doors to do. A lot of masking involved with this process so it's well worth it for the time and effort saved!
@@zendiek3 Awesome mate, always happy to hear. Yes a cheap masking machine would definitely help out with time on this one. Bunnings do sell the unipro masker I think there around $30. 👍🤙
I've watched a few of your videos now. Love your work. You make masking look so easy! I've never seen that masking paper before and I saw that you put links in the description. Thanks for taking the time to share your knowledge.
At 21:14, you mention how to paint the part that's behind and that there is a video for it. I can't seem to find it - can you put a link to it, please? Thx
Brilliant Video Josh. I came across this whilst looking for spray painting patio doors. I have to say your video was by far the best on here. Well explained and in great detail. I’m looking to do mine in the summer when the English weather is better. Thanks for uploading. Legend!
Nice vid, mate. Thanks. One question, at 18:46 you mention "fat caps", will aussies find these caps fitted this spray in Bunnings? If they don't have them, what can you do? Cheers.
Thank you for the message Garcia! I love then people can do it themselves and save a little money 💰 appreciate you watching. Good luck with your project 👍
Thanks for sharing Josh. Presume same process for outside frame but what about the sliding tracks? How would new paint cope with the door sliding across all the time? And would you take the door off before painting? Lastly how many cans of paint would you need for inside and outside this size frame? Thanks very much.
I’ve started watching you recently and was excited to find an Aussie guy using Australian supplies in your videos! Even better I realised you are a fellow Novocastian! I’m currently in the process of attempting to paint my kitchen window, fingers crossed for me as I have only sprayed the etch primer and have already got runs 🤦♀️ all a learning process but Thankyou for your detailed videos 😊
Hi Renae, thank you for watching on & yes there was a real shortage of information on RUclips with painters & products here in Australia. Lots in the US! And Your from newcastle also so cool🙏. Hey with the etch primer just a mist coat maybe hold the can back a little more😂. its most definitely a learning process each window should get better & easier! Would love to know how they all turn out.
Been watching your videa today on repaiting aluminium sliding doors and windows and we are looking at doing the same thing .. how do you got with painting inside the tracks so you get full colour coverage ? .. or do you just painting the visible flat surfaces and is there any benefit in removing the window or door panel ?
Hey Josh, thanks for the amazing tutorials man! They’ve been super helpful. A quick Q: have you ever used the Montana Ali Primer with MTN 94 or Montana Gold on any Ali windows/doors? Was gonna clear coat afterwards with Spraymax 2k clear. I love the Montana colours range. Was just wondering if these paints are fit for purpose. Cheers
Awesome video! Keen to try this on the weekend. What do you do for the track? Just the same? Wondering if it will mess with the slide or get scratched up?
Thank you mate, much appreciated I do the same with the tracks and never really had a issue. I just give a little extra sand and primer. good luck with it 👍
Nice job, makes it look easy! I need to paint some big aluminium bifolds (with small awning windows above) from green to white. Guessing I should remove all of the rubber seals and trims, etc first?
What about the inside part of the frame on the sliding door that is blocked by the glass? When you slide the door open that part of the frame will be visible and still be the old color.
So I am painting our church front door they are black and will remain black on the exterior and deep brown on the interior. I think they are aluminum but they are definitely metal frames with large window centers and metal push handles in the middle. I noticed some chipped paint around the frame, would I use this same process to paint those doors. Do I need to sand them first and if so with what kind of sandpaper? by the way thank you for this tutorial.
Great vid Josh, I’m looking to all of ours inside and out. But I’m changing from primrose to black. So how do I get at those aluminium faces you see through glass when you slide the door or window?
Hi mate, thank you! you can take the window out by sliding all the way open & lifting straight out. Then paint that back edge and put back in place the same way 👍 thank you for watching
Well I did what you said and it worked a treat. But. I had a layer of black over tiles and shower and sink. I had more paper and plastic taped up. Would this misted overspray because I’m spraying from too far back?
Awesome video! Thanks Josh, just with the weather strip when removing windows. Can you tape that off or do you remove it whilst painting? And with the tracks, do they not get caught on the paint once it’s all dried or do they get stuck because of the paint?
Hi Isabella! Thanks for watching, I usually just tape the weather strip & one the tracks are painting the doors should just roll over the paint unless there is something wrong with the bottom of the door/rollers than it probably would damage/scratch the tracks. Hope this helps 🙌
Really good clean job man! Thanks for sharing your experience How far will that top coat can go ? Would you paint 3 doors the same size with one can? Thanks
Hi Mate, cheers appreciate you watching! One can of top coat would get you 3 doors just. All depending on how thick of course. But with a light first mist coat and even top coat will get it done💯
I'm definitely trying this! my front door looks terrible and I want to pay a new one cash (around 1.5 to 2k) so I'll probably extend the life of the old one while I save some money. Thanks a lot!

Mate, wish you were in Melbourne. Just had my house and window frames done and the painter had a go at us calling us "picky" because we could see brush strokes, paint on the glass and just crooked lines because he felt as a professional just free handing with a brush was "as good as it gets". Suggested maybe tape could help and he just ignored it, hasn't heard of tape apparently. Now I'm on here learning from a real pro so I can fix his shit up...!!
Great video Josh, I did this to my guest room window and came out perfect. However, due to my pregnancy i am unable to continue using spray fumes. So, I tried to use enamel paint and brush.
