  • Jeep Dana 30 4.10 Gear Setup. This is part 2 of this Dana 30 axle rebuild and a lot to cover today. First I will cover how to get the proper pinion bearing rotational torque. Easy to take the pinion in and out with the help of a dedicated set up bearing. After 3 different shim adjustments the torque came in at 16 inch pounds. Dana 30 new bearing pinion rotational torque is between 12 and 15 inch pounds.
Next the carrier is installed and shim adjustments made until I get .007" backlash and a good tooth pattern on the gear set. Pinion depth is perfect in coast and drive side of the tooth have the pattern centered properly.
Bearing preload is set and the carrier is set in and caps torqued down to 50 foot pounds.
The pinion seal is installed, and yoke nut torqued to 150 foot pounds. A little bit of differential lube is added and the pinion seal will face down for a couple of days to make sure there are not any leaks. Now is the time to find them but with a new seal everything should be fine.
