It is hard not to be mesmerised by it. Yes, thank goodness for the internet 😊

Lennon did get to hear this just before he was killed.
He absolutely loved it and said this is exactly how he originally intended to sing this song, but the Label forced him to speed it up into a rock and roll song.
He jokingly was only sour on it because he didnt get to do it first.
Tina Turner also loved this cover, she was spending time in Australia at the time, that she also did her own version with her own vocal twist.

I'm not sure if anyone has posted that John had a young family (he married Jilly in 1973) and didn't want to world tour. - family and Australia came first. If you're interested there are lots of documentary videos on YT - watch those and you will see just what a kind, humble, and genuine person he is. I've been following him for less than two years, I listen to his music daily, and it's an absolute joy, gets me in my heart and soul every time. July'24. UK. E❤.

Australia is a long way from the rest of the world being an Island Continent and back in the late 60's and 70's travel etc was difficult plus even our own radio stations refused to play local artists as they insisted on playing American music etc... so it was hard to break in to that. John taught himself the piano using this song and of course it was rather slow going...lol but although a huge Beatles fan myself I love John's slowed version....sometimes I feel he sings it like a prayer. It is said that John Lennon actually said that this version was how The Beatles wanted to sing it but management wanted the 'boppy' version lol. Thanks for your support and kind words for our Aussie artists....looking forward to more time here on your channel. Hi from Australia.

We Australians are the lucky ones, we have had his music for 50 years, and I'm sad that the rest of the world missed out on hearing it because no matter how many RUclips videos are played, its just not the same as experiencing sitting at one of his concerts and truly having your mind blown at his excellence. You could still hear him in your head and you would buzz for hours after the show was finished.

Thank you for that reaction, and may God bless you, thanks for the prayer 🙏 the American musician Richard Marx when he heard John sing, came to Australia to collaborate, John Sings " your the reason why" a beautiful song, about how he felt when his son's were born are were growing up, Richard Marx was on the piano and, it can be viewed on a video about the 1994 ARIA awards. John has also joined in song Celine Dion, Tom Jones, Ray Charles, just to name a few. He also often sang with Olivia Newton John, who he worked with over the year's and John and his wife were friend's with Olivia, (may God rest her soul) John also sang with Australian opera singer, Anthony Warlow, a comic piece (very enjoyable) they sang "Granada" I think the concert was called "The Main Event" Olivia also sang with them at the same concert, and John gave Olivia kiss, (scripted) for the performance, only after receiving his wife's permission 😂 they were all good friends. Hope you enjoy the very many song's as you continue to discover John Farnham. I think you will like "Amazing Grace" John sings with two of his regular back up singer's who he would often refer to as his friends.

The Beatles wrote it and recorded it. John fixed it.
Now you have another new subscriber. Thank you for recognising John. Even his own Country treated him badly. He had number one hits from age 18 but was not allowed to sing his music or his way until he was 38. Ne recording company would sign him in America or Australia until his new manager and best friend took over. Mortgaged everything he owned to make that record and then no radio Station would play it but Glenn never gave up and once we heard the first song we demanded it. Richard Marx heard him many years ago, he named him the greatest voice alive anywhere and he wasn’t wrong. His version of Amazing Grace is beautiful and Richard was amazed that he found 13 different genre’s that John sings naturally including Opera. Many famous people have come to sing and tour with John. Only John doesn’t know how wonderful he is but now he knows how loved he is. Thank you for the Prayer.❤

John was a good friend of Olivia Newton John. Liv thought of John as the best singer she knew. They worked together and in fact if you did see the Sydney Olympics Opening Ceremony you may then recall seeing Liv and John perform together the song DARE TO DREAM: ruclips.net/video/NwIfmS-Pml0/видео.html You would also love this 2.5 hour concert Liv and John did with another star in Australia, Anthony Warlow. Anthony was 'the Phantom' in Australia's musical THE PHANTOM OF THE OPERA. You will be surprised at the other types of singing John is known. It is not just Rock n Roll, but even opera. Here is the link: ruclips.net/video/qd-USQDe9dg/видео.html In this concert alone there are other good songs like YOU'RE THE VOICE: ruclips.net/video/6m2m_9Uijso/видео.html Also IT'S A LONG WAY TO THE TOP IF YOU WANT TO ROCK N ROLL: ruclips.net/video/73X_z_zW4Sg/видео.html
Liv and John have a similar background. Both born in England and came out to Melbourne, Victoria, Australia as children. Liv born in 1948 and John born in 1949. Both started in Melbourne TV and John was the KING OF POP in 1967 for his song SADIE THE CLEANING LADY. He often gets asked to sing it at all his concerts and he jokingly tells people to shut up. Here is the original when he was 18: ruclips.net/video/eZeRmpvCjEw/видео.html Now a link for him now as he has had major surgery about the same time his good friend Liv died for oral cancer, losing part of his chin: ruclips.net/video/u7pt-I7MDhM/видео.html This is AMAZING GRACE: ruclips.net/video/xSuvnRlSNqk/видео.html The tribute movie made recently: FINDING THE VOICE (official trailer): ruclips.net/video/LocCfc5PKrE/видео.html

Most only did tour here so they could sing with them as alot of our musicians travelled oversea
They used to tell others if you get a chance to get their you need to see them
Im sure they showed them their music
Freddy mercury from band queen wanted johm to replace him when he was going to pass away
One of the best singers and bands around at the time and now
Freddy said he though john was the best voice He's ever herd and many others around the world say the same
Johns very well known for he's ballards as well
Jimmy sang with Tina turner simply the best their voices together special and she loved singing with him

John can sing any genre better than anyone, he’s not just a rock singer as you’ll realise when you get to know him more. He’s done musical theatre, it’s worthwhile checking out ‘Gethsemane from Jesus Christ superstar.’ There’s also a beautiful ballad ‘Burn for you,’ written for his wife of 50 years, Jill. Many great international artists have heaped praise on John Farnham, including Céline Dion, who made sure she got to sing with him when she was here. He’s toured with Tom Jones, sang with Coldplay, Sammy Davis Jnr. heaped praise on him when he saw him sing, Olivia Newton-John toured with him as did Lionel Richie. Richard Marx, one of John’s hugest fans not only toured with him but has written some beautiful songs for him as well. When he tours with these international artists he’s not the second act, he shares equal billing with them. When Freddie Mercury died, Queen wanted John to take over as lead singer, but he turned them down because he wanted to stay in Australia with his family. John is a very much loved Aussie legend who has a big heart and is totally without ego.

Hello Suzi of course Ray Charles too!! Also just an FYI John didn’t turn Queen down he sent them tapes to their backing tracks and didn’t end up getting the job - Peter Vox confirmed this a few years back in an interview. However he has said the offer was humbling in itself. I am sure it wasn’t for lack of talent just more that Queen were probably looking for someone more like Adam Lambert. I do believe John wouldn’t have been the right fit for Queen who are more hard rock than Pop, it’s more an image thing ❤❤

@@mssuziquzi I always did think that too until i found Peter Vox and yeh as I said I think it was more a matter of “fit” certainly nothing to do with lack of talent. I do also believe it is fact that Freddie actually said John had one of the best voices he’d ever heard. This was one of the reasons the band decided to approach him after Freddie’s passing.

Thank you for reacting to John Farnham, aka ‘The Voice’ - there are 6 decades of songs to explore, - John can sing everything from Nursery Rhymes to Opera - and everything in between, - Live is always best - and there are plenty to choose from,
From 17 year old John 'IN MY ROOM' ruclips.net/video/wRRVcHS9GRQ/видео.html , this early song was also written by John, to 71 year old John - 2020 - “ You’re the Voice with a local indigenous singer - MitchTambo, Brian May on guitar and Olivia Newton John ‘ruclips.net/video/lqjNWuM2z-Q/видео.html ( Fire Fight Australia a fundraising benefit concert. )
But the ‘must do’ song that most will ask you to react to is ‘You’re the Voice’ from the MSO concert - This clip starts with a boy soprano singing the first few lines…

    thank you again

His near 3 octave range means he did sing tenor roles. His Granada (sung by Pavarotti ) with Anthony Warlow is tops. Olivia Newton John said John was her fave male vocalist. She, John & his wife Jill were very close friends.

Such a great concert Classic Jack. Contrary to popular belief on RUclips comments sections, this was NOT the last song of the night, and the concert went for about 2 hours and not 3 hours. There was another encore after this where he sang Sadie and finally ended the night with It's a Long Way to the Top.

Farnham was all about the music and the audience enjoyment, not about fame. He would showcase the talent of the musicians he shared the stage with. Try "Amazing Grace" featuring two of his regular backing singers up front and central; ruclips.net/video/6danLkCJoFI/видео.html

Great comment. as always. I didn't know that John Farnham was treated badly by the US music industry. FYI, he's been pretty large in Europe, or at least in Germany, as far as I can tell.

Great choice mate, as a teenager and young adult John was was not in our music list. Growing up in western Sydney it was hard rock or even heavy metal, AC/DC, Led Zep, Deep Purple, Status Quo, Iron Maiden, Van Halen and the list goes on.
But in later life when I heard this song I thought this guy has the best voice out of all of them.

John Farnham has a vocal range of A2 to G5, which is huge. He can sing anything. John Lennon said John Farnham sang the song the way it should be sung. Have a listen to Gesthemene! He's amazing. When the war is over is another one or listen to Jimmy Barnes version.

It should be said that it went the other way as well. A lot of American artists were unknown here. Unless they were pop. Perhaps it’s time Australian reactors hosted music they have never heard. Big names like Ry Cooder, Steely Dan (apart from their Ka-Ching tunes they made to pay for the real deal), David Bromberg, Papa Creach, Ellen McElwaine, Stanley Turrentine, more than that but these are obscure in Australia and they shouldn’t be. Others would have their lists of favs that are unknown to me. And there’d be youngsters - no all ages of people who only know 2 or 3 songs from Aretha Franklins repertoire and those are not really the best. I’d love for someone to open it up so we all got unstuck.

If you have the time & inclination please track down John Farnham singing a duet with Olivia Newton John called "Please Don't Ask Me" which John did a few years earlier solo but is just made to be done as a duet. Just a suggestion. Cheers.........

I would suggest you watch John Farnham can sing anything.
    Always watch his live concerts.
    He can sing opera, ballads
Please don’t ask me with Olivia Newton John.
    Amazing grace,
It’s a long way to the top if you want to rock and roll
And another one in which he sings how much he misses his wife when travelling with the band.
    Forgot the title
Anything you can find sung live …there is no bad song of his.
you will have many more viewers finding your channel
