You've just dipped your toe in the rabbit hole of John Farnham. Jump in. The hole is deep, and the fall is pure magic. John has literally hundreds of songs in his library. All are amazing. You are in for a treat and if you continue reacting to him, we Aussies will flock to your channel. John has had a tumorous cancer removed from his jaw and had his jaw reconstructed. Even though he has now been declared cancer free, and his family say he is singing around the house, it's unlikely that he will ever perform for us again. But that's fine. He's earned his retirement. 'The Voice', as he's known here in Australia, has been entertaining us and giving us his all for 50+ years. Always react to him live. He shines on the stage. You can see the love he has for performing and his love for his fans. He is not only a phenomenal singer, but also an amazing entertainer. He's funny, humble and down to earth with not one ounce of inflated ego. He can sing anything, in any genre. He is the GOAT!!!! Please react to 'You're The Voice' live with the Melbourne Symphony Orchestra next. This is his signature song. This is a song that every Australian knows. It's sung at every big event, because it is so unifying. Enjoy our Farnsey and prepare to have your mind blown.

  • @jayweb51

The is John's rock ballad version of The Beatles 1965 classic song, with the Melbourne Symphony Orchestra in 1989; John first released his version back in 1980, at a Royal Charity Concert in front of Queen Elizabeth II at the Sydney Opera House. John started his career of a pop singer in 1967, and continued until the late 70's; in 1979 John commenced his career as a contemporary adult entertainer, he is the only Australian artist to have a number-one record album or single in five consecutive decades( the only other artist to achieve this feat, was British singer Cliff Richard). When Celine Dion performed her world concert in Australia, she had John Farnham as a special guest artist; this was to sing John's signature song You're The Voice. John has the vocal range and quality to singer everything from pop to rock from musical theatre to opera. Check out John in a duet with Jimmy Barnes singing When Something is Wrong With My Baby from Jimmy's Soul Deep album at the 1991 ARIA(Australian Recording Industry Association) Awards, or his romantic ballad Please Don't Ask Me from The Main Event Concert with Olivia Newton John; also from The Main Event Concert singing Granada with Anthony Warlow(of The Phantom fame), and then there is him singing Gethsemane from the Australian production of Jesus Christ Superstar the musical.

My first experience of John's voice was as a young girl, when he brought out the song, that he'd been talked into doing by his first manager, Sadie The Cleaning Lady. When u see him like this, u see just how far he's come... yet we almost never had this incredible pleasure. After Sadie, John (Johnny at that time), had been typecast, & was being ignored, despite his amazing voice. Recording companies & radio stations were rejecting him... even after his song (which I loved) One (Is The Loneliest Number). His great mate Glenn Wheatley became his manager, mortgaged his home to the hilt, & they began work on Whispering Jack (the album). Glenn formed his own recording company because of John. John, who'd become depressed, was working again. If not for Glenn Wheatley's passion & belief in John, we wouldn't be watching this now. There's so much more to this story, & a few great documentaries (docos) about John's life.
Last I heard John was recovering well, & had been declared cancer free. As a singer who's had health challenges prevent me from performing for many years, I pray he's able to perform again. If he can't then we're blessed with always having videos, recordings, of his amazing voice, showmanship, & beautiful heart. x

John started off singing a very long time ago but his career never took off like this until his good friend and manager, Glen Wheatley, mortgaged his house to build John's career back up. This was when he became 'The Voice' and an Australian legend. Yes, he is still alive but battling cancer unfortunately. I'm sure that with the support John has from all around Australia and the world, he will make an amazing recovery. There are so many songs I could recommend, but I think that you need to hear his song 'I'm the Voice' from the Firefight Australia Concert that was put on in Sydney to raise funds during the catastrophic bushfires we were suffering when it seemed the entire country was burning during 2019-2020. Queen + Adam Lambert played the set that Queen played at Live Aid, the first time ever since they originally sang this set. Alice Cooper appeared, the late Olivia Newton-John and many others. John finished the show with Brian May returning to play for him as some of the New South Wales Volunteer Fire Service came onto the stage to be honoured for their hard work. Not just them, yet the Volunteer Firefighters from every State and Territory in Australia plus all others who assisted in so many ways. The fires were still burning during the time of this concert. The song starts off with Mitch Tambo, an Indigenous Australian who sings the song in his native dialect. It was a great experience and a video that I think you would very much enjoy seeing. Another suggestion would be to react to John Farnham singing with another great Aussie icon in Jimmy Barnes. I haven't seen if you've gone down the Cold Chisel/Jimmy Barnes rabbit hole yet, but it's well worth it. The next song you need to hear is by John Farnham and Jimmy Barnes when they sing 'When Something is Wrong With My Baby'. Just by checking out John Farnham and Cold Chisel/Jimmy Barnes, you'll have more reactions than you'll have time to delve into. I may as well throw in one more suggestion for Jimmy Barnes performing with his son David Campbell during Carols by Candlelight singing 'You'll Never Walk Alone'. Be prepared for some great authentic music from those who have natural great talent which can be seen in the live performances. These were times, prior to the internet, when music was real and truly meant something. Goodnight from Northeast Victoria, Australia, Kris.🇦🇺💖👩🏼‍🎨

This concert was advertised as John and his Big Band in typical Aussie understatement, it's a 100+ piece orchestra for crying out loud. lol
This song is one of the last songs that he would sing at the end of the night after he had already sung his heart out for nearly 3 hours.
Some have pointed out that this particular recording of the concert was closer to 2 hours of actual singing during the TV special, but it was also on the 4th or 5th night that he had sung like this.
Either way, it was one of multiple nights that he did this on January 4-10, 1989, so his voice is still worthy of the accolades.
Not many other singers can belt like that for even 2 or 3 nights without a rest.
And besides picking at the exact details or this exact performance, Farnsey also has a way of getting deep into the emotions of your soul.
A couple of songs worth checking have been mentioned below, plus these are worth a look also.
The reason you haven't heard of him is because the US music industry is a closed little club. When John Farnham went to the US they didn't know which genre to put him in so his US promotions manager got him a couple of gigs in a little jazz club, where the MC introduced him as Jack Phantom. Couldn't even be bothered getting his name correct, so being a bit disheartened he wandered home to concentrate on his loyal fan base. The experience did give him inspiration to write a couple of good songs about missing his family, like this one.
    -Burn For You..
    ruclips.net/video/4PPvOhPspEA/видео.html
    -Angels..
Notice how he holds the mike below his chest, both mikes are a metre away, which he does all the time to not drown out the other singers.
JF with Lisa Edwards, a top singer in her own right, and one of John's back up singers for 20+ years.
    ruclips.net/video/5_2NJRIdBO8/видео.html
    -Amazing Grace..
To show the calibre of his other back up Singers, showing you have to be good in your own right, just like Lisa.
This is Vanetta Fields and Lindsey Field.
    ruclips.net/video/_x6N94OEkZQ/видео.html
    -Please Don't Ask Me..
This one with Olivia Newton John, who we have recently lost. John has also had major cancer surgery including removal of part of his jaw and we may not hear him sing again. So let's enjoy this one as well..
Edit- JF has announced he is free of cancer, but has not mentioned anything about singing again.
    ruclips.net/video/2uV_tZODfK8/видео.html
-When Something Is Wrong With My Baby....
And even when he is singing with one of the most powerful voices on the planet, Jimmy Barnes, he still put the mike away from his face and closer to Jonny Diesel on guitar.
    ruclips.net/video/AU_bCchDWF4/видео.html
    Or this version.
    ruclips.net/video/RAlFHSPLHpo/видео.html
    -When The War Is Over…
Possibly one of his greatest vocals.
    ruclips.net/video/lfWrXc5eN8g/видео.html
    -Or is the greatest.
    Gethsemane..
    ruclips.net/video/k5woMZtClhI/видео.html
    -How about a mike test.
He has the power and ability to distort microphones, amps, and get speaker stacks jumping. So this sort of setting up the venue test is a must. Lol
    Black Dog.
    ruclips.net/video/F2Yi6TVi-sU/видео.html
Besides having the best voice ever, JF can adjust his tone, pitch, volume, to match the person he is singing with to either match them or sing just under them depending on who's the head line act, he will even back himself down when he is the head line to give others their moment to shine, and if my ears were sensitive enough, I wouldn't be surprised if he could vary his vibrato, timbre and all of those other things that voices can do so he could accentuate the other singers.

This is a cut and paste of John with another singer from Australia called Jimmy Barnes. Just thought you'd like the links, and yes Celine and John have worked together, or at least Celine has sung his song You're the Voice in America. I think it is on youtube somewhere. Here is the cut and paste:-
Jimmy Barnes used to be the King of Rock. John used to be the King of Pop. John's first hit song was Sadie the Cleaning Lady at the age of 18 in 1967 and here is the link: ruclips.net/video/eZeRmpvCjEw/видео.html Olivia Newton John's favourite singer was John and they worked together from time to time. Here they are together at the opening Olympics ceremony in Sydney in 2000 singing DARE TO DREAM: ruclips.net/video/NwIfmS-Pml0/видео.html They also did a 2.5 hr show together with another great talent (Anthony Warlow who was our Phantom from the show Phantom of the Opera) - the show was called THE MAIN EVENT: ruclips.net/video/qd-USQDe9dg/видео.html As for Jimmy, yes he did WORKING CLASS MAN: ruclips.net/video/t3TPmPOrDEk/видео.html and is also known for singing with Tina Turner SIMPLY THE BEST: ruclips.net/video/crAgnI9BF6M/видео.html If you get the chance watch John singing his rendition of the Beatles classic HELP. John Lennon loved it: ruclips.net/video/dv54giOSRKs/видео.html and YOU'RE THE VOICE: ruclips.net/video/6m2m_9Uijso/видео.html OR THE WHOLE CLASSIC JACK LIVE CONCERT WITH THE MELBOURNE SYMPHONY ORCHESTRA PLAYLIST: ruclips.net/video/UWnm_qwa2Xg/видео.html
As for a bit about them. Both men come from England and came over to Australia when young. Like Olivia, John ended up in Melbourne and Jimmy ended up in Adelaide. John was born a year after Liv and they kind of started off together at the same studios in Melbourne. She followed his career from afar. About the time of her passing, he had to have major jaw surgery for oral cancer. He has survived it and apparently can sing around the house. He won't come out of retirement though because he is 74 now. Jimmy's son is a well known singer and breakfast TV host down here too. Jimmy was the lead singer for the band COLD CHISEL and John played lead for a little while in THE LITTLE RIVER BAND. There is a nice biopic on John that recently was seen in the cinemas and now is on DVD - here is the trailer and the 1st voice you hear is ONJ: ruclips.net/video/LocCfc5PKrE/видео.html

Thankyou for your thoughtful reaction, John has been singing forever, releasing his first single in 1967 and his last live performance was early 2020, just before the covid lockdowns, so you have over 50 years to catch up on, but as others have said, John is always best 'Live' .

    He is the GOAT.
I’ve seen him live twice, growing up I never appreciated what I was witnessing. He was just John Farnham.
Then you grow up and understand what a phenomenal talent, kind heart and brilliant performer he is.
We were/are extremely lucky to have his music/talent.
Burn for you is probably my favourite of his, it’s just so pretty.
    Ps it’s Farn-am, like yarn.

Hello from Australia...Thank you for a wonderful reaction to our John Farnham. Yes he's still alive but has not sung in over a year now due to a cancerous growth in his mouth & they had to remove part of his jaw and do reconstructive surgery. BUT he is fully recovered and is said to be singing around the house lol. I've like and Subscribed and can't wait for you to do more John Farnham ans other Aussie artists please.

If you do happen to watch any of his collaborations with other singers, watch his mic technique. The other singer usually has to just about swallow the mic to keep up, while John looks like he needs longer arms to hold the mic far enough away that he doesn't overpower them.

I love your reaction to his voice and performance. So thrilled you loved this. John Farnham (the ‘h’ is silent and the first part of his surname is said with an emphasis on the ‘r’ 🥰. He is still alive. He was diagnosed with throat cancer a couple of years back. Another big hit of John’s is called The Voice. I highly recommend a listen. Again I want to say how thrilled I was to listen to your reaction to a wonderful brilliant performer. 🥰

Thanks for the great reaction. It's always a thrill to see someone new enjoying his amazingly powerful and melodious voice. As others have said, he can sing anything. For just a taste of his versatility, I think you can do worse than a couple of other songs from the encores of this concert.
"You're the Voice" is his signature song and a great anthem that still resonates today.
"It's a Long Way to the Top (If You Want to Rock and Roll)" is a hard driving rock cover of the classic AC/DC hit.
Together with this emotive ballad, they showcase his talent, his stage presence, his power and his genuine niceness. After that there's enough material to keep you from reacting to anyone else for a good long time. :)

Watch EVERYTHING by Australian artists on live versions only. Farnsey has "the voice" & can sing any note or genre vocally perfect, every time LIVE.
Please checkout more from John Farnham & another Aussie legend, Jimmy Barnes. Affectionately both known as "Barnsey & Farnsey".
They've done a bit together. Please check out "When Something is Wrong with my Baby" LIVE from "Hey, Hey It's Saturday" TV show.
Jimmy Barnes is also 1/2 in a band called "Cold Chisel".
Between them all they're Australia's biggest selling artists of all time & always will be. 50 odd year careers

John is connected to Celine Dion. The last time I saw him sing was with Celine in Australia. I think he was 70 or 71 and it was at Celine’s concert. She was singing his song and wanted him to sing half with her. She has always told the world she is his number 1 fan. They were funny to watch because John is humble and so is she. They both went all fan on stage instead of great talents.
John turned 75 years old on July 1st and he is still alive hopefully for many more years. He was named best singing voice alive anywhere today by Richard Marx a long time ago. It was sad that only Australia really knew him when great names from around the world have come to tour with him. At the start of COVID a group of us that has grown decided the world should see what they are missing through RUclips. He now has so many more fans and he can sing any genre he has tried naturally.
Thank you for your reaction and for finding our Legend.

In Australia the singers and bands have nowhere to perform to learn and improve. In the 70s 80s and part of the 90s every pub played live music now the pubs only have poker machines so there isn’t any live music for up coming acts it’s a real shame

John just turned 75. Please keep exploring the John Farnham rabbit hole he can sing any genre. We Aussies love him and are grateful for the internet so more people around the world can get to hear him at last. He is a humble and charitable man, always volunteering for good causes. John's voice in his early 70's sounded the same as when he was young, an incredible gift. Look hard and you'll find some. Fire Fight concert 2020 after horrendous bushfires here. Celine Dion adores him and came downunder to sing You're The Voice with John in 2018. Same concert as Help is John singing You're The Voice, react to that, actually react to all you can find, Aussies will come to hear your reactions. Oh, Jimmy Barnes and John Farnham singing When Something is Wrong with my Baby is stunning. Just over a year ago he had a 12 hour surgery for mouth cancer resulting in much of his jaw being removed. The whole country prayed for him I'm sure. Free of cancer now and whilst his son said John's singing at home now I'm not sure the public will ever see him perform again but we can hope. Oh pronounced Farn-em the h is silent.

First reaction of yours I've come across. Just going from the recommended reactions that popped up with it, I'd suggest fellow Australian artists Cold Chisel and the subsequent work of their members, and American a capella group Home Free. Most reactors who enjoy artists like John and Angelina Jordan, who I see you've also reacted to, also really enjoy their originals and covers that are frequently upgrades of the original. Apologies if you've already reacted to these artists; as I said, just going off the recommended videos of yours.
