Thanks for doing my request Lexi. I`m glad you enjoyed John`s performance. This song was John`s version of the Beatles song "Help" which he made his own. It was also one of the encore songs at the end of this concert after he had performed for 2 1/2 hours. I really enjoyed your reaction & the breakdown of the performance.🥰🦘

Although it wasn't 'at' the end of this concert, only 'near'. There was another encore after he sang Help that had Sadie and It's a Long Way to the Top. Plus that night he sang for about 2 hours not including intermission etc.

A great reaction to our wonderful Australian singer, John Farnham ! He has a big vocal range, a unique voice, has perfect pitch, can sing in over 20 genres, has a career spanning six decades with top hit songs and albums, is a composer, has sung with famous singers from around the world, is a consummate showman, has incredible charisma and a wonderful rapport with his audiences. And John is a humble, friendly, funny and a gorgeous human being. Most outside of Australia have not heard of him as after a while he limited his work to Australia as he missed his family too much and so did not want to be touring overseas. He co-wrote, 'Burn For You', because of this. ALWAYS see and hear John LIVE on in CONCERT videos where his Soul shines!

This concert was advertised as John and his Big Band in typical Aussie understatement, it's a 100+ piece orchestra for crying out loud. lol
This song is one of the last songs of the night after he has already sung his heart out for nearly 3 hours, and Farnsey also has a way of getting deep into the emotions of your soul.
A couple of songs worth checking have been mentioned below, plus these are worth a look also.
The reason you haven't heard of him is because the US music industry is a closed little club. When John Farnham went to the US they didn't know which genre to put him in so his US promotions manager got him a couple of gigs in a little jazz club, where the MC introduced him as Jack Phantom. Couldn't even be bothered getting his name correct, so being a bit disheartened he wandered home to concentrate on his loyal fan base. The experience did give him inspiration to write a couple of good songs about missing his family, like this one.
    -Burn For You..
    ruclips.net/video/4PPvOhPspEA/видео.html
    -Angels..
Notice how he holds the mike below his chest, both mikes are a metre away, which he does all the time to not drown out the other singers.
JF with Lisa Edwards, a top singer in her own right, and one of John's back up singers for 20+ years.
    ruclips.net/video/5_2NJRIdBO8/видео.html
-To show the calibre of his other back up Singers, showing you have to be good in your own right, just like Lisa.
    Vanetta Fields and Lindsey Field.
    ruclips.net/video/_x6N94OEkZQ/видео.html
    -Please Don't Ask Me..
This one with Olivia Newton John, who we have recently lost. John has also had major cancer surgery including removal of part of his jaw and we may not hear him sing again. So let's enjoy this one as well..
    ruclips.net/video/2uV_tZODfK8/видео.html
-When Something Is Wrong With My Baby....
And even when he is singing with one of the most powerful voices on the planet, Jimmy Barnes, he still put the mike away from his face and closer to Jonny Diesel on guitar.
    ruclips.net/video/AU_bCchDWF4/видео.html
    Or this version.
    ruclips.net/video/RAlFHSPLHpo/видео.html
    -When The War Is Over…
Possibly one of his greatest vocals.
    ruclips.net/video/lfWrXc5eN8g/видео.html
    -Or is the greatest.
    Gethsemane..
    ruclips.net/video/k5woMZtClhI/видео.html
    -How about a mike test.
He has the power and ability to distort microphones, amps, and get speaker stacks jumping. So this sort of setting up the venue test is a must. Lol
    Black Dog.
    ruclips.net/video/F2Yi6TVi-sU/видео.html
Besides having the best voice ever, JF can adjust his tone, pitch, volume, to match the person he is singing with to either match them or sing just under them depending on who's the head line act, he will even back himself down when he is the head line to give others their moment to shine, and if my ears were sensitive enough, I wouldn't be surprised if he could vary his vibrato, timbre and all of those other things that voices can do so he could accentuate the other singers.

Although this concert was closer to 2 hours of singing than it was to 3. Even if you include the 2 song encore that was sung after he sang Help. He still sang his heart out and had incredible vocal endurance.

      @stevegraham3817 Год назад +1

@@devilsadvocate2548 Even if that particular recording was with less than 2 hours of actual singing, it was one of 7 nights that he did that back to back.

Oh, that is our blonde haired Legend. He does not have a raspy voice when he sings Opera. He is a Chameleon that Richard Marx found very early. It is not unusual to find Richard on a stage with him. Once he just walked on and played piano for John and then he left. He calls John the best voice alive today anywhere.
Imagine if John ever had a voice lesson. No, they probably would have ruined it. He sings so many genre’s naturally and without effort. What accent? You have an accent, we don’t.😂
He is a very humble, kind and sweet person. He feels like family and so do his family and friends. He is great showman on stage and he cannot keep still to save his life. This concert and the Main Event concert have some really amazing songs. He is called the Voice here for a good reason and he is loved. The Orchestra love to play for him as does his band and backup singers.
John’s Biography movie was released May 18th. He didn’t have an easy road and it is called Finding His Voice, he wasn’t allowed to be himself in the beginning. Last night I watched him sing My Yiddish a Mama with Tom Jones and they didn’t know they were singing. It was funny and beautiful. I loved watching John sing his biggest number one hit with Celine Dion. He got emotional when she told him she had always been his number one fan. He is a bit shy off stage.
There was a time when no one in America or Australia would sign him. They were really sorry. Thank you.

Thanks again for reacting to this icon of Aussie entertainment. He's been the favourite of a lot of us for a long long time. His dedication to his wife and family meant that he never achieved the international stardom he deserved. He may not have been a household name to the general public around the world, but there's a long list of international stars who respect him highly.
FYI: the rasp in his voice is honestly come by. You can develop it too with a bit of dedication. Just suck down a couple of packs of cigarettes a day for a couple of decades, and it's right there. Of course, most people then have difficulty holding a long note, or singing a pure note, or generating such power without coughing up a lung, but that's another problem.

Hi Lexi, great review of our Farnsey, thank you.
You won't find any video for it (as it was a sound-check we as fans were lucky to hear thanks to the initiative of his sound engineer to record it), but would strongly suggest you check out the audio of him and his band warming up with Led Zeppelin's "Black Dog". It's a great representation of his range.

He just like to see him well he’s a living legend here in Australia 😊🇦🇺🥰

He does mike stand tricks, knows his pipes from being an apprentice plumber, has to stay back from the mike when belting, to save the mike. He had no formal voice training, but learned a lot from others during his career. See Amazing Grace, with Venetta Fields (Ikette) and Lindsay Field. Look him up with Ray Charles. Try, You're the Voice, from this concert '86 or '89, both have been quoted. Help and the Voice were encores After 2 hours performing. A post of before the concert is on Y/T, if you can find it. All the best.

Good reaction. Welcome to that rabbit hole called John Farnham. It's long and it's deep, going from his start in the 60's as a teen pop sensation ('Sadie, the Cleaning Lady'), through his stint as the lead singer in the Little River Band, then on to classics like 'You're the Voice' and to his adventures into just about anything (see his duet with Anthony Warlow singing 'Granada'). As with most Aussie singers, live versions will usually be better.

  • @jayweb51

You have only touched the cusp of his singing performance. It is always best to listen to John in live performances. Another great song, also his signature song, is You're The Voice from this same concert is a must; but be warned, you might find yourself in a rabbit-hole. Glad You enjoyed John's version of The Beatles classic song Help, this is completely the reverse to the original pop rock song.

    • @jayweb51
      @jayweb51 9 месяцев назад

With John's repertoire of vocals, he can sing most genres; I haven't heard him sing hip-hop, but he can sing from pop to rock to theatre to classic/opera to country. John has performed in duets with both Australian and International artists alike, l love his duet with Olivia Newton John singing Please Don't Ask Me from The Main Event Concert; also with Jimmy Barnes(from Cold Chisel) singing the Sam and Dave song When Something is Wrong With My Baby, check out their performance from the 1991 ARIA(Australian Recording Industry Association) Awards where Jimmy's brother-in-law Johnny Diesel plays guitar and lends his vocals in the second half of the song. There are many other great moments, the likes of Gethsemane from Jesus Christ Superstar the musical. Enjoy.

Welcome to the rabbit hole of "The Voice" which he is worldly renowned for. He can sing any note, any genre, vocally PERFECT. 50YR career. Still to this day & always he has the best selling album of all time, which will NEVER be broken.
His song "You're the Voice" was so big it still today is Australia's unofficial national anthem.
Queen asked him to replace Freddie Mercury, he said no! John Lennon said this was the best version of this song & said this is how it should have been sung.
The likes of Celine Dion fangirled over him not that many years ago when she finally met him. He has sung with the likes of Tom Jones, Olivia Newton John, Ray Charles, Andrew Lloyd Webber. Played the lead role in Australia's best sellling musical here in Aus in "Jesus Christ Superstar".
His duets with Jimmy Barnes Australia's other just as successful artist Jimmy Barnes also apart of Aussie's best band here also called "Cold Chisel".
Farmsey & Barnsey as they're known in Aus are mates from way back. The Aus musical industry is a tight family.
ALWAYS react to all of these performances LIVE to do them justice. Always better here than studio performances. Unfortunately about 5% of his actual career is available online.
Devastatingly he is currently fighting cancer in his early 70's now & had to get part of his jaw removed, likely deeming him to never be able to perform again.
But even in his old age he still has it. The nicest, funniest, noble man EVER. There isn't one Aussie left who doesn't adore him, seriously.
If he wasn't such a family man content with only national success the world should have caught up with him as a GOAT even back in the infancy of his career when he was as young as one could be.
Keep reacting to these songs & you ll have your channel influx seemingly overnight by Aussie's. 👌😁
Ballads, duets, soul, opera, black dog he can sing it all.
Checkout "You're the Voice" from the same concert. Plus "Something is Wrong With my Baby" Jimmy Barnes & JF together. "Burn for You" JF. Jesus Christ Superstar lead performance by JF, Its a long way to the top JF, A soundcheck performance (just audio) of him covering Black Dog. Arguably better than the original as well.
As for this song, "Help" this was his encore performance of a 3.5hr live concert. Like his voice is vocally perfect, with every vowel sung correct to the enth degree.
Welcome to Australia's little known music industry. We don't need autotune & todays (so called live) trickery.

When you say he has no accent when he sings, that can only mean he sings in your accent. We don't hear an accent when he speaks or sings...but singing with an American accent is an International thing eg the Rolling Stones or Elton John.

    • @jeffwilson7100
      @jeffwilson7100 Год назад +2

Speech is left brain. Music right brain. That's why for example the Abba members had strong accents speaking, but none singing, or why Harrison Craig stutters when he talks, but not when he sings.

1987, I think. Never had singing lessons. No auto tune. No tech/digital wizardry. Huge range. Powerful voice (look how far the mic is from his mouth). Just pure John Farnham, just pure gold. Love all his songs, not a dud note in any of them. John's other asset is emotion, it's so easy to shed tears when listening to him. Watch the many videos of him, interviews, behind the scenes😂😢 - he's just all round Mr nice guy, who really loves his fans. Feb'24. UK. E ❤

Lexi thanks for your wonderful post about our John.
There's quite a bit to our John's back story & it was no mistake that scenes from Australia's cowardly, perverted & miserably failed invasion of Viet Nam were in the original Voice video track.
John (a former Plumber) like all Aussie Building Union members (like me back then & will be always) was only young but we knew & have never forgotten or forgiven the Conservative Party in Australia for illegally invading Viet Nam.
The Building Unions in Australia are magnificent & were the back bone of the Anti Viet Nam Invasion movement.

He explains in concert that it gives him a chance to breathe!

Kate also did a wonderful album with Jazz vocalist Wendy Mathews and the blend of their voices was extraordinary

    G’day Lexi.
You seem to know your stuff.
I’m not really a Farnham fan, I prefer blues and hard rock, but I respect talent.
You would love both videos from a 1990’s production of Jesus Christ Superstar .... the production used existing Aussie rock and pop stars in preference to musical theatre stars.
    It WORKED.......
    Check out Everything’s Alright.
Billed as Kate Ceberano , John Farnham and Jon Stevens on Aussie tv variety show, Hey Hey It’s Saturday...... it is actually the full Superstar cast in costume performing on the tv studio set.
    It is brilliant !!!!
Also John doing Gethsemane, a few different videos available, but they all should be magic if done professionally and not via a pirated camera. lol
Both these videos will blow you away.
