I saved my used paper log books for an silvenar, that used to be used in the early 2000s
They say they use eld because people cheated too much with the paper log books plus they had an hard time reading the writing on them, with eld they can track them better online that's what I heard, I heard people still need to carry the paper ones in case the eld one goes out or breaks down for some reason

Many years ago when Canadians didn't require log books I knew a driver from Canada who was running through NY state. He was not running a log book and got pulled into a portable scale on I-390 I think). The DOT asked him for his log book and he said he was from Canada and they don't run them and it was his first time running down here. He was let go with a warning. Sure enough next week he got stopped there again and was asked for his lig book and told the DOT the same story and again they let him go with a warning. A couple of weeks later he was again stopped and told the officer the same story. Apparently it was the same one and the officer told him 'look this is the third time you said this to me at least change your story' !!
😂😂😂 Sticking to his story
We need about a million more of him out there.

I had the same experience with D.O.T officer, when I told him I don't have ELD , nor written paper log, he asked me if I had empty paper logs, and I replied yes, then he told me to create the last 8 days while he ran my credentials in the patrol car, then came back to the truck and checked what I wrote down on paper log and said " I see you have it now, everything looks good. Have a good day, and be safe". I know most of you won't believe it, that's what happened to me, it's worth mentioning that I didn't tell the officer that I'm an outlaw😊, I don't think it'll help your case.
Had that happen to me about 10years ago. Only difference was the officer shut me down for 11hrs and after that I was free to go. But, I waited till the officer left and waited like 20 or 30m then hauled ass!!!
A broker did the same thing to me a couple of years ago. "Im keeping 100% of the shipping rate and paying you 0% of the freight rate because its costing me too much money". This was a 1,500 mile load btw. The 3 way call with the broker and shipper had a 5 minute silence. The shipper did the right thing and wired me money but that broker no longer exists.
Is broker pushing daiseys ? lol
Technically, you could have taken ownership of the goods and the shipper would go cry a river 😭 .... interstate commerce law kicks in at that point, plus u can sue both shipper & reciever for failure to honor contract (since they contracted broker to move their load)

News Flash. You have the exact same HOS with the ELD as you had before. You didn’t “lose hours” you lost the ability to cheat.
It's not "cheating". It's violating FMCSA rules. They made it harder to violate their rules that were put in place by mega carriers through lobbyists to undermine independent O/Os and take more market share. They told me just like no written pre trip inspection time was not specified. As of now 15 minutes is asumed the minimum time enforced when to this day there is no time warranted for a pretrip. I used to run multiple log books. I think the ELD is very effective today, needs to be a little flexible on on duty hours. Back in the day we would run 3 books on long hauls. You had to stay on top of it each morning or it would mess you up. If you we’re running Refer out the San Joaquín Valley to the Midwest like Chicago you wanted to run 16 to 18 hours per day to turn it in 2 days. DOT was thick around the Quad Cities looking for refer trailers because it the out of hours area. If you ran regional, you could fudge around enough with one book to make it work.

Local doesn't need a log or eld but you have to write down your stops and show your home terminal is in that state. Your allowed 100 miles in every direction of your home terminal. You’d be surprised how many (in Canada) run multiple log books in my industry, if they run logs at all. Many equine haulers in NA believe they can run like livestock/bullwagons. In Canada we are not mandated for ELDs yet. If we run US any more than 8 days in 30, any one time in a year, we are required to have ELDs in the US and to show the 7 days before inspection regardless of if they were in Can/US. If you jump in the way back machine. Stop and ask a trucker back then how "many" paper logbooks they kept running at one time. It all depended on you being a company driver, or an Independent. Yes, I understand times money. Just be safe while you're doing it. Some out there are truck drivers; some are steering wheel holders. You still have to color between the lines sometimes.

I was an eld outlaw that's half the reason I retired, just because you're book is out of hours DOSE'NT MEAN YOU ARE READY TO SLEEP!
I mean... the eld should be an option not a requirement, I can see where it protects the driver from dispatchers, especially for the newer drivers, but honestly, you know when your tired, and you know when your not.... I mean honestly, im allowed to work a job 80hrs a week, and not have the government saying you can't do that, unless your a truck driver....
I feel it is not an option because: 1) HOS regs apply to both paper logs and ELDs, and 2) too many drivers push their own limits too far for stupid reasons.
I don't run a electronic, just paper and never have gotten in trouble yet, but I do only except loads tho also.
Does the dot officer ever check the BOL and travel from pickup to find mileage discrepancies?
Good video.
Now I know who the dude was walking up the road with his thumb 👍 out. $3 loose leaf log cost him big money by not having either one
That dude was hilarious
Lol 😂 ELD exempt off so. And I would not doubt today they will say you need a back up eld on your phone. Because even though you run electronic you have too have in glove box or over head a physical log book.
That’s awesome I like that one .
I remember back in the day .We were only put out of service for 2 hours then it went to 10 hours out of service
That's just ELDumb as hell. Sometimes we just be asking for it. Smh
He’s probably a local driver! lol 😂
I’m sorry but I love this lmao what a guy 🤣
Give that man a Oscar's 😂😂
It may have changed but you use to not need a log book if your start and stop was less than 100 miles so you could run all over half a state with no log book and I did tell wa. Dot that and he said nothing after that but good by at i-5 scales
I only see positives to his video. He made a lot of money before getting caught. He got a 34 reset in before getting caught, he stood his ground before being caught, he has the balls to talk back to the guys who talk down to us.
Good job Hiram
i agree with you. He had the balls to stand up for what we should all have done years ago.
You know what drove rates up? Elds
I got out out of service for not having a log and I got a safety violation. Went straight to my company score, now brokers see I have a low safety score and won’t want to give me loads. So there’s def not a positive thing about this
Since the eld mandate there is scarce parking after 6 in the evening
Used to have 3 back in the day
Hey bro let me tell you what dot told me. Just say you don’t run and forsure out of state more than 8 days in 30 days. Have a little app to cover your ass and you SHOULD be good to go. Just went through a level 3 and she told me how to “play the game”.
What? Did you Mean say you don’t run out of state more than eight days?
Ssonny707 is correct! It's called casuel/part time driver and it is sure enough legal. I have done it and then 3 days later go back on eld
Listen, I say this all the time. ELD are fine they work great, I think we need them... Now!! The hours of service need big time change. But, ELOGS are okay. HOURS OF SERVICE NEEDS TO BE CHNAGE..
Elogs are good for a some many different reasons.
On my 2nd log for the day
Earlier today was running 79 mph in the left lane thru 294 north in Illinois to Wisconsin
Got pulled over
Whats the rush? He asked
Why u in the left lane?
I said been on the road over a month and tryin to get home to wisco
He ran my license….. came back
Stay out the left lane, slow down,be safe
Zero ticket or warning and was on my way
Shit…. Dodged a bullet there ol son!!!!!
In Comiefornia 10+ years ago it was cheaper to not have a comic book that was only a $400.00 fine one wrong line was $2200.00 fine
Seymour Indiana if you get caught without eld or logbook it's a $140 dollar ticket and out of service for 10hrs even if you go to the TA at the exit before the scale it don't matter and she will drive by every 1to 2hrs to make sure you are still at the TA..so atleast they'll follow you so you don't have to stay at the scale been there several times myself in 14yrs lol
