"Let's bust out the PAINT!?!?!" Almost stopped my heart. For about two seconds. This was a stellar turning, Rod. Brilliant. In execution and shine. You brought out the best hidden beauty of this wood. Well done you.
Magnificent bowl!!! You gave me a chuckle when you said "Alright, lets bust out the paint." LOL Beautiful projects sent in by your subscribers. God bless.
I love seeing how such small pieces of Woodstock can be turned into such a large and magnificent piece. Blessings to you sir and thank you for sharing your skills and passion for your craft.
I am a first time viewer that is working on his first time ever segmented bowl. I just added you to my viewers list and I think that I learned enough to almost feel comfortable. Semper Fi
Omg, I yelled NOOOOO at the screen when you said to bust out the paint! Felt so dumb, but am sure glad you didn’t hide that beauty under layers of paint...
The sad thing is the fact that the joke was so funny, because there is some irony / truth in every joke. I think all here have seen beauty just destroyed with a coat of paint.
Beautiful piece! One thing about the woodturning community .... we're always willing to share! Whether it's wood, knowledge or just praise! Take care, Dave
A beautiful segmented bowl. I like size with only three rings and a base. I agree with you that mahogany is a great wood to work with. Thanks for sharing.
Absolutely gorgeous! My grandpa was a Craftsman. He passed 20 years ago. Watching you work makes him feel close. You do the same type of projects that he did. Thank you for sharing.
As a fair babe in the turning world, I feel that learning the light touch first makes it easier to learn the more aggressive cuts without doing damage to the piece or yourself. I have been watching several youtube channels since I started in Nov 19 and I have learned so very much from each artist I watch. Thank you for your time and knowledge! I have found another true love.
Rod the Mahogany is beautiful! I think it really shows the beauty in segments. The way it lights up is always amazing as it reflects back. Great job of turning it into something special. Very well explained video as well. Thank you for sharing my pictures I appreciate it. Semper Fi Brother, Gary
This piece is absolutely stunning!! It’s also the reason I wish that you had an online store to purchase the items you make. Thank you for sharing this magnificent piece 💜
Go to his website! He does sell some of his work! It is probably located in his description box that you can drop down under the video! If not there, check his Instagram account!
My Etsy store is RHumphreyWoodworking but I haven't listed anything recently. If all goes as planned, I'll be selling a lot more this year, but not quite yet.... Thank you!
Gorgeous piece of work! I'll admit my heart sank when you talked about busting out the paint. Too many wood turners are ruining gorgeous pieces of wood by covering them with paint, trying to make it creative or something; true craftsman know how to work with the piece and accentuate it's natural, God given beauty!
You ask us to let you know what you could have done differently to make the piece better, but honestly Rod, every thing is always absolutely beautiful! Change anything? NO, Never! Fantastic work as always! Thank you for allowing us to see them.
I enjoy watching this especially since my son passed away. His works were very similar and I have a lot of nice wood that would like to pass on to someone in the field. Thanks, I feel as if I'm watching him at work, doing what he did best.
I am a fiend for semitry. That bowl just really does it for me. I watch you and many other wood turners and can't wait. I do not own a lathe yet. I'm saving up, and looking around for a deal or maybe a preowned one. Gather inspiration from guys like you. I am excited I love working with my hands. I build motorcycles cars, and anything around the house I get the chance. You and "The Pohl Barn" or my two favorite. Thanks for all ideas and tutelage.
I watch several other woodturners, and I can honestly say that I always understand what you are doing, and why you are using a particular tool. You explain things so clearly, and it is appreciated. I love your work, I love learning, and I love how you share the work that other turners are producing. (There are blessings untold in lifting up others.) You are appreciated!
I learn something new from everyone of your videos. I love the stepped recess on the bottom. Someday, I will have the confidence to share my work with you.
1st. Very very nice segmented bowl Rod. You are totally right about Gary being a superb turner. He is also a perfect gentleman and has given me so much help and advice over the last months. Cheers, Huw
1st off, thank you for your service. And for a new guy to wood turning and segmented bowls I really appreciate the time you take to explain everything you are doing. It really helps out us rookies. My friends and family love my projects and just wanted you to know the impact you are making on us beginners. Keep doing what you are doing, thanks again, Mark E.
Hi Rod....that is a beautiful bowl...I love the segmented work...the choice of wood is perfect...nice thin walls...great job and video ...cheers...All the best.....Andy
I am not a woodworker but I love all kind of crafting.. you surely cut yourself short you turning is beautiful and were again I know nothing about turning beauty you have amazing talent god bless you and keep up with the beautiful work.
The reason you channel keeps growing is because you keep busting out gems like this! I love mahogany and especially when used in turning! Such a beautiful bowl! 👍🏻👍🏻
Thank you R. Humphrey. I enjoy your Videos as well as your commentary! I've only turned one bowl and that was approx. 1967 in shop class! lol One day I'll run across that gem and I'll be a happy man. ...Newk from Kentucky
Oh My Goodness! That is one of my favorites! You get so many accolades on your skill and the precise control that you have on the lathe because of your excellent attention to detail! You make this relaxing to watch and give such excellent advice for up and coming artisans! Your knowledge is Golden! And also I'm sure that your USMC training has a lot to do with your finite precision! I know your wife and family are So Very Proud of you and your work! And as We, your ever fast growing subscribers are! Thanks for all you do! And it's worth saying again that... That is one Gorgeous and Unbelievably Beautiful Bowl! The movement and shine you gave it, is just Amazing! I hope you have a great week! Take Care!
Cuddos to Kevin for the donation. This is a slam dunk here. That chatoiance was all over that piece. Loved watching it spin on the pedistool in the end. I've noticed we both use the same glue brush. We must both be thrifty.
Another beautiful bowl! It always amazes me how you know how much you can take off a piece without going to far. I love your way of explaining things, you voice is so peaceful.
I knew the paint statement was in reference to your last video. Good for you. I never knew about mahogany until high school. I've never been able to forget about it since. Beautiful wood + great craftsmanship = Awesome bowl.
Gorgeous !!! Video is great and you explained the process clearly. Just got electricity in my 12 x 26' shed yesterday . Now it's time to start filling it up with tools needed to turn wood.
I love the chatoyance of the wood. I must have missed the video when it first came out for my Rod Humphrey wood turning marathon. At least I found it!!! Nice work MSGT Humphrey!! Semper Fi
Another very nice piece from the Humphrey shop. Don't you just love turning segmented pieces! The shavings are so great being all side grain. And all the sanding is with the grain. No cross grain scratches to get rid of. And the wood you had to work with, beautiful. Thank you for sharing. And happy New Year. May 2020 be as productive as 2019.
When you said, "break out the paint" my eyeballs bugged out so far it knocked off my glasses! Whew! That is a stunning bowl. The segments look almost metallic with that shine. Beautiful segment bowl. Thank you for sharing.
Beautiful bowl, Rod. It doesn't matter what skill level you think you are because your results are always great. I've been a subscriber of your channel and Gary's for a while now and I'm not going anywhere.
Your channel keeps on growing because you’re so great at what you do. That base was amazing. I couldn’t get over the sheen of the wood. This is a wonderful bowl and so incredibly beautiful.
Great work Ron. Initially, I wasn't sure about the profile of the base but once you added and shaped the rings it ties it all together. One of these day's I'll get around to trying some segmented turning and will keep your design in mind. Thanks for your efforts putting together the entertaining and instructional video. Cheers, Ben.
Learned a new word “chatoyance” what a beautiful word to go with a beautiful bowl.
Watching this I feel at peace. I'm smiling. Such a wonderful piece of wood and skillful work.
When you said, "Let's bust out the paint" I twitched in a really bad way. LOL This one is gorgeous!

How could anyone not like this bowl. It’s beautiful.

Very very nice. I like working with Walnut and mahogany too when I can. Thanks for the video. Love your work, Rod.
Beautiful bowl! The woods compliment each other so well! So jealous! 😮
Thanks for this video and narration. It helped clarify my thoughts on how to ready the layers for segmenting. Peace and grace to you.
