- Easy segmented turning with two beautiful types of wood. From dull to brilliant with lots of flash in the grain.
Thanks for watching!
(the paint joke is in reference to my last video and the trouble I got myself into, and not directed at anyone else 😝) - Развлечения
Learned a new word “chatoyance” what a beautiful word to go with a beautiful bowl.
Omg, I yelled NOOOOO at the screen when you said to bust out the paint! Felt so dumb, but am sure glad you didn’t hide that beauty under layers of paint...
The sad thing is the fact that the joke was so funny, because there is some irony / truth in every joke.
I think all here have seen beauty just destroyed with a coat of paint.
LOL, I was just acknowledging the trouble I got myself into in my last video. Thanks Lynda!
"Let's bust out the PAINT!?!?!" Almost stopped my heart. For about two seconds. This was a stellar turning, Rod. Brilliant. In execution and shine. You brought out the best hidden beauty of this wood. Well done you.
When you said, "Let's bust out the paint" I twitched in a really bad way. LOL This one is gorgeous!
Thank you R. Humphrey. I enjoy your Videos as well as your commentary! I've only turned one bowl and that was approx. 1967 in shop class! lol One day I'll run across that gem and I'll be a happy man. ...Newk from Kentucky
Thank you very much, Newk! It's out there somewhere!
The best I can tell you have 100 pieces in your bowl. It does have a lot of flash in that bowl that is one of the things that make it look so nice. I sure enjoyed watching this video.
That is absolutely astonishing work. Wish I could do that.
I have Parkinson's disease and turning is a thing that really focuses my mind. Keep the videos coming, I love em.
I love seeing how such small pieces of Woodstock can be turned into such a large and magnificent piece. Blessings to you sir and thank you for sharing your skills and passion for your craft.
A beautiful segmented bowl. I like size with only three rings and a base. I agree with you that mahogany is a great wood to work with. Thanks for sharing.
Thank you very much!
Magnificent bowl!!! You gave me a chuckle when you said "Alright, lets bust out the paint." LOL
Beautiful projects sent in by your subscribers. God bless.
Mahogany is my favorite wood. I guess I don't have to say why. Beautiful bowl.
Gorgeous !!! Video is great and you explained the process clearly. Just got electricity in my 12 x 26' shed yesterday . Now it's time to start filling it up with tools needed to turn wood.
What a beautiful bowl wish I was that good at turning and layout !! Thanks

That was one of the most beautiful bowl’s I have ever seen thank you for all that you do
So, you don't know if you're any better with lathe tools than anyone else!
Well, we do! It's mesmerizing to watch. Sometimes your hands look steadier than a CNC machine.
This is one more reason why I prefer to watch you work at normal speed .
Other than that, I love the 3D effect the segmented pattern gives to this piece!
Thanks very much! 😊
Rod the Mahogany is beautiful! I think it really shows the beauty in segments. The way it lights up is always amazing as it reflects back.
Great job of turning it into something special. Very well explained video as well.

Thank you, brother! My pleasure!
Another very nice piece from the Humphrey shop. Don't you just love turning segmented pieces! The shavings are so great being all side grain. And all the sanding is with the grain. No cross grain scratches to get rid of. And the wood you had to work with, beautiful. Thank you for sharing. And happy New Year. May 2020 be as productive as 2019.
Thanks Glen! I really do love segmented turning, for everything you mentioned and more. Same to you my friend
Very very nice. I like working with Walnut and mahogany too when I can. Thanks for the video. Love your work, Rod.

Thank you for making this video. I am preparing to attempt a segmented bowl and this is both instructive and inspirational. You do excellent work!
Another beautiful bowl! It always amazes me how you know how much you can take off a piece without going to far. I love your way of explaining things, you voice is so peaceful.

Wow, what a piece Rod, well done. The way you capture the flash is amazing and truly appreciated, it lifts my heart that people are out there revealing and showing the beauty of wood and not hiding it under paint, just goes to show even the smallest offcuts can be made into something great, well done again!
Outstanding job, Rod!
