The singing on stage brought realism to each character, with pauses, sighs, sobs, breathing, the occasional off key note, and everything that makes each role truly live. It is so much more authentic to the cleansed perfection of the stage. I saw this for the time just two days ago, and I admit, I cried through the whole thing. It truly reaches the heart, the very soul of what forgiveness means. You don't merely bear witness to this story, you BELIEVE it.
And how is this like that? They record about 20 takes and use one of the takes. Nothing like the stage. All this does is just make it harder for expression which is bad in a film cause we're right up close to the actors faces whereas we're far away in a theatre. So then you get performances like Anne Hathaway's where it's a great performance but the singing sounds bad. And then with most of the others, the performance suffers
so glad that the film was recorded in this way. wouldn't have been the same otherwise.
"And finding musicality within sound effects became a thing.." Literally my life..
It has been 7-8 years and this is still the best musical movie and maybe the best movie I've ever watched for my entire life
No.... Best movie ever :')
I ove this fucking musical and fim!
Epic movie!! Love fantine!
The best movie musical of all time! And it brought Aaron Tveit to our attention.
Nice! I loved it.
I recommended everyone watch Sideways' video on this film.
I seriously don’t understand why nobody else does this. It’s so much better than studio recorded audio.
It's so much more work. And it's also a double edged sword. All the mistakes of this movie (which I dont even notice) came from this conception. Like staring everyone from 30 cm for 3 hours, the cutting, etc. It's a good concept but it also limits the film.
@@krameri5 yeah, fair.
Some of it pays off, some of it does not
