@Deathmare235 Having "Ronaldo's work ethic" doesn't automatically make you resistant to injuries. Many players with great work ethic and determination have lost their careers due to injuries.
Varane is a legend without a doubt. Personally, I think the Man Utd move was not ideal for his career however he made that team solid especially under ten hag first season with the little appearances he made for three team.
@vineyard6611 was always exposed when he was told to play without ramos and that evident when they played the champions league match against City how badly he was exposed plus look at his overall career he did win trophies but he was never considered top 5 cbs in the world at any point
Streets won’t forget prime Varane at Madrid. Incredible CB for us at times, and if he wasn’t made of glass he could have gone down as one of the best of this generation🫡
I see people say that players should shut up and play the game because they earn a lot of money. They seem to miss the fact that no pay check can stop you from getting injured. I would rather see less games with fit player than more games with players pushing their limits and potentially ending their careers
10:45 and you need that sometimes. That why he complimented those guys like Sergio Ramos, Dayot Upamecano, Lisandro Martinez. You need a calming influence alongside an aggressive front foot defender. And Varane was perfect for that role.
10:28 there should be no doubt who was the leader of the French back line in 2018 and 2022. Raphael Varane was the boss and he marshalled that defence brilliantly.
Easily in the top 3 best French CBs of all time with Blanc and Desailly (or top 4 if you want to say that Thuram was a CB and not a RB), never in the spotlight for Real Madrid but he by far the best defender on the French teams whenever he played
@@Deathmare235 Saliba hasn't done shit yet bro, stop glazing. How can you seriously think that Saliba can compete with the likes of Varane who has 4 CL and a WC😅😅😅
16:44 look at Diego Maradona and Ronaldo. Both of them were subject to brutal tackles in the 80s and 90s and the overall physicality of football back then. And their career at the top level was done by 30. I think they have done a better job of protecting them on the pitch but it will be negated with these unnecessary competitions. Maradona suffered a near career ending ankle injuries in 1983 because of vicious tackles from Athletic Bilbao's Andoni Goikoetxea. He was only 24 years old. Ronaldo was getting pulled, hacked and kicked by defenders in La Liga and Serie A of the 90s which led him to take injections to his knees and also led to 2 patella tendon tears due to his body's refusal to take the beatings anymore. And Ronaldo was not slim like Neymar, he had broad shoulders and thighs to withstand the punishment.
An absolute rolce royce of a defender...if you could sacrifice a player's fitness for another he's defo the one...i remember him dominating barca home and away Spanish super cup 2012...that was the eyetest

Varane was a good CB, but people need to relax with their shouts. He is nowhere near Top 5 CB of last decade. Thiago Silva, Chielleni, Godin, Ramos, Bonucci, Van Dijk, Hummels, Pepe were all better than him.
Varane is the one who benched prime Pepe and sent him packing , carried Ramos for several seasons. He was just more injury prone then every player you listed
Not gonna lie, I never rated these La Liga defenders that played for Barca or Madrid that much. They always had a cushy job when you look at their attacking players, managers and squad depth. Same goes for Varane, overrated as heck, just like Pique.
@@thetruth4654 They were decent, nothing special. I don't consider someone world class just because they played for Barca or Madrid, or because someone else said so.
He had injuries issues since 17 if you watched his documentary...for him to make it at this level is already outstanding
If only he had Ronaldo’s work ethic maybe he wouldn’t be so injury prone

That Varane Umtiti partnership was an all timer. Shame injuries hindered them (mostly Umtiti)
1000 percent they were immense in the 2018 World cup.
Umtiti’s injury wasn’t too bad is just that he played before it healed

One of the all time greats and easily in my top 5 favourite cb ever. Forever a legend ❤
