Messi 18/19 is the most complete footballer in existence imo. He maybe scored/assisted more in other seasons, but the performances he was putting up and types of goals he was scoring and chances he was creating, simply out of this world. His dribbling that season felt so polished and perfect too. Great idea for a tier list.

Messi’s career is somehow like a movie. In his early years around 2006/7 to 2008he relied on his dribbling and pace but his finishing was a bit off as he was growing. Then as he progressed (around 2011/12/13)his finishing became more prolific and he became very deadly infront of goal . Then getting to 2015,he added playmaking to his style and his passing was more amazing whilst being a phenomenal dribbler and a deadly goal scorer but I’d say he was all of those things in 2018/19. He became a complete player around that time. You could even say he reached his peak

Fun fact (imho): the best (arguably) seasons from Messi in terms of individual performances always come after a disappointing World Cup (2010,2014,2018). Indeed, I’d say that 10/11, 14/15 and 18/19 seasons are his best, even though it’s plenty of Messi’s incredible seasons, it’s easier to mention the seasons where he underperformed (just 1-2 max).
It’s like after world cups disappointments Messi came back angrier and more focused/fit than ever. 2018/19 season was also particular for Messi because it was his first season as the main captain for Barcelona, so he surely took even more responsibilities, you could really see that in his UCL performances, especially against spurs where he was defending like the old days
I’d also add that the period 2016-18 is pretty underrated, his performances were absurd but were outshined by Real Madrid winning multiple champions leagues (despite robbing Bayern Munich twice but nobody says it).

The "Messi learned from Ronaldinho" thing is getting boring now. Messi was always special. He would've achieved this level whether he played with these players or not. As for Yamal, I honestly don't think he's anywhere near messi in terms of natural ability. Yamals playmaking is insane at this age and is his best asset but I just don't see him scoring the amount of goals or anywhere near the amount that Messi did. Messi could do everything (create, score and dribble at an incredible level) even at a young age. Yamal is great but I honestly just think reaching Messi's individual level is virtually impossible. Yamals finishing is very bad as well. I know he can work on that but still....

I’d argue 21/22 in D-tier is harsh. I’m not saying it’s an all timer or anything, 6 goals is horrible, sure. But I think a lot of people bury that season under a pile of criticism without any context, and him winning the BO over Lewa soured a lot of people before the season even properly started. Pochettino having him on touch line winger duties at 34 is criminal, and really explains why he didn’t replicate his goal scoring form. But people forget he was arguably one of the best players in the UCL groups, he dragged that PSG team to the KOs with that performance at home against Man City, one of his most underrated goals (tho he was eventually disappointing against Madrid in the RO16). His assists numbers were still amongst the best in Europe that season, and would’ve been off the charts if not for Mbappé (despite being at his peak) squandering a ridiculous amount of chances. C-tier season imo, it just can’t be in the bottom tier with pre-retirement and teenage Messi.

@DC-zi6se yes. Because he didn't need it..... 18/19 Messi was more calm and composed. Didn't need that explosiveness to get the job done. He played 10, 8 and 6 position consistently at GOAT LEVEL. Do you know how fifa coded that it. And what edges 18/19 Messi over 14/15 Messi is the level of consistency. 18/19 Messi was HIM ll through the szn. 14/15 Messi didn't reach Messi level till like mid December. You're here talking about speed and explosiveness. 18/19 Messi was basically 14/15 Messi but in zen master level.

I think 11/12 is the best messi version then late 14/15 he was just unstoppable.

in my opinion 14/15 is the perfect combination of why 10/11 and 18/19 are great respectively. Still younger and insanely qick and dangerous on the ball like 10/11 but also more composed and arguably a better playmaker like in 18/19. For me 14/15 is messis best ever season when accounting for all aspects of his game.

17/18 season rivals 18/19 so it has to be in “S”
20/21 season delivered Copa America impressively deserves to go a level up into “A”
16/17 season Messi’s most memorable El Clásico fixture at the Santiago Bernabéu with 37 La Liga goals in just 34 appearances = “S”

Personally I’d put 21/22 Messi at C, like a soft C. He still put up numbers in assists. It’s just that generally he wasn’t up to his own standards.

18/19 Messi imo is comparable to 2018 LeBron.
Probably the most complete version of these legends, but ultimately failed even if they went extremely far.
Messi in the semi final of the Ucl, LeBron in the final. Messi was still able to dribble past players well, but was complete in every other aspect, while his speed significantly decreased in the following seasons

Great Video, thank you! 😇⚽️🇦🇷🐐 I love Messi and I can see that you really have a great ball knowledge. I agree with your list, but for me personally 18/19 was the best and most complete Messi version ever. In addition I would have put 22/23 in A (second tier) just because of his unbelievable performances during the world cup 🏆🇦🇷🐐
