I think this is the most convincing 2d lookin 3d animation I've seen, good work
Thank you!!
Tbf, everything looks 2D without shading
@@ElectricNox not necessarily.
@@ElectricNox and everything looks even more 2d without color :) so strip it out is the way to go.
I wish i understood how you did this so i can do the same. I love this. I much prefer to make my stuff look 100% 2d.
Thank you!! We use the line art modifier add on and basic emission shader to get this look :)
@@PLASTIEK opa boa noite, nossa ficou muito bom você poderia fazer um tutorial, fazendo favor nunca te pedi nada kkkkkkkkk
@@PLASTIEK thank you, now I can incorporate this in my models.
@lordsofthesky
See my main comment.
Can you export work in SVG?
Thank you for this demo. It looks so cool.
For anyone who doesn't understand this method, here is the breakdown:
1- Before going for the lineart look, make sure you have made your character in different parts. Head, body, 2 arms, 2 legs, all separate objects and not a single object. This is what they have done in this video.
(Also, I think they removed the Principled BSDF shader and used a flat color shader instead such as emission shader, etc.)
2- Use Grease Pencil LineArt Modifier on each part. So at 0:17, you can see all the modifiers. Starting from "Body" all the way to "Ears", there are 11 LineArt Modifiers applied to all the body parts, separately.
3- Use the Subdivide Modifier for the GP LineArt to get a smooth and more accurate shape of lineart.
4- Use the Noise Modifier to get a raggedy look in the lineart.
5- Finally, use the Thickness Modifier to control the thickness of the overall lineart.
Have fun. And let me know if you need more elaboration.
Thank you for the detail explaination!
How do u do highlights and shadows?
And how about the rigging? Mine has bones but the video have circle rings for the rig!!
@@buizelmeme6288 Those are the controllers that Rigify generates for you.
@@Nickfooker oh…
We need more of this in the world. Animation that goes all in on the 2D aesthetic. Lots of studios have left 2D behind, and although some have tried to replicate 2D through new mediums in recent years, it's not quite the same. This on the other hand is part to even tell apart from actual 2D.
Thank you so much!!
We are also surprised for the result of this test too!
insane how far 3d animation has come
technology has gone too far, we need to go back.
I rather do this than drawing in grease pecil to get a 2d effect. Thank you for sharing!
You're welcome 😊
Hi, I'm a beginner with Blender. How did you apply the gray color to this dog? Is it with the Grease Pencil?
If I apply modifire and import it into Unity, will it be work?
this is simpler than it should be , usually people will over look this alot because its really simple, i might make a tutorial about this to explain, unless you have one thats awesome too, over all great work
I plan to do some tutorial for quite some time but didn't have time :(
@@PLASTIEK well if you are okay to colaborate and help do that we can refer to each channels for the tut or something
@@augforthboy opa, amigo fez o tutorial?
is ti available to blender 3.6 and how to get (the modifier )
I'm lost in what your doing.
i have no clue what im doing wrong because when I use the grease pencil lineart modifier and then move my model, parts of the lineart are just left behind
edit: nvm I figured it out I was just being stupid lol
tell me how to make this toon shader in blender as in the video
So little is explained in this vid. A bit frustrating I agree. "Look what I can do... and figure it out." A few minutes more tutorial explained precisely for dummies would have been cool for sure :/
yes@@HanSolocambo
Is there a tutorial for this?
How would this look like if you turn off the cel shading.
ruclips.net/video/WCQ85XOTukA/видео.html
I uploaded the timelapse of the whole process here
Yes boi! We need a huge push for 2d in 3d!
Indeed!!
Love this so much! Would love to view tutorial on how to create this in Blender if possible. Thank you.
this IS in blender btw
Did you use the automatic grease pencil outlines or manually draw and keyframe them? If so, what settings did you use?
We use the line art modifier and set the target to the mesh, It will generate the line for you.
If yoy didn't showed the Blender segment and only showed the animation , i wouldn't be able to tell that that was a 3D model , is really impressive
Thank you so much!!
Is there a way for you to simulate tapered lines?
it's not perfect but you can make the thick and thin line with the light setup.
HMMM FOR SOME REASON THIS DOESNT WORK FOR MY 3D CHARACTER COULDSOMEONE PLEASE HELP ME? I TRIED REMOVING THE COLLISION MODIFIER FROM MY BODY MESH BUTWONTWORK COULD SOMEONE PLEASE HELP ME ?
This looks amazing!! Where are those models from if i may ask?
Thank you!
We created the model in Blender.
I really wanna use it for something different
Nice, but how do you create it from scratch?
ruclips.net/video/WCQ85XOTukA/видео.html
I uploaded the timelapse of the whole process here
wooow amazing how to do this
do you have a tutorial on making those fellas
Great tutorial! How'd you get the line in the center of the tongue though?
is this available in blender 3.6? if so why can't I find it? or is this a blender 4 thing? or maybe a completely separate add-one for blender 3.6?
If you look closely you can see its still 3D
It's also shown in the thumbnail too :) and yes nothing can really beat the real 2d!!
I need an outline for a mesh but only the border and not it's individual parts. How would I go about getting that effect?
For example, let's say a character has spiky hair, but I don't want the outline to outline each strand of hair but instead create a border around the silhouette of the hair.

Vrom Tri Dee tuu tuu dee
AHHH SO CUTE! I have a project I'm working on soon and this is very similar to the route I'm going. Thanks!
Have fun!
give a tutorial on using Line Art, why my line art only appear on one side on my object?
this one might have an answer for your question :)
ruclips.net/video/WCQ85XOTukA/видео.html
Wow I have theorize this same thing
i looking for this! thx :D
Good to see how to setup in Blender but that's an awful lot of work compared to using something like Moho to do the same thing ...
IT's a lot of work but also once you do it, it's easy to reuse :)
@@PLASTIEK Yes. 3d has its advantages but as an animator time is money so you would only really need to do this if you were going to do A LOT of animation with a particular character which, after 10 years or so working in the field is very rare. I used to spend time doing things like this (toon shading in Lightwave) or setting up complex 2d rigs but in the end you spending 10 times more on setup than creating the animation. Now I do simple rigs and manipulate them when I am animating and do things in much less time
This is the way
What's blender version?
3.64
This is so cuteee!
Thank you!!!
What lightning setting u use ??
I didn't use lighting on this scene. Just emit ise the emit shader and mix with some gradient and color ramp :)
@@PLASTIEK tysm. I'll try it🥺
This looks really cool! I can see how you use the geometry's form to create specific lines with the grease pencil, how do you handle head turns with a rig like this?
Thank you! for the turn, We will have to limit the movement and move the shapes, elements around to make a nice design for specific angles (Like when you draw)
❤❤
Where can I get this?
This is blender. you can download it from their website

Goodbye to Grease Pencil
😁🤩
It's grease pencil!
Awesome)
awesome rig
thank you!!!
Impresive!
thank you!
Pls make tutorial bro

Are people just allergic to hand drawn animation now? Blender literally allows for hand drawn animation.
We love to try all the option to see what work best! if you have a look at our Koffeekat channel you will see that we use both hand drawn and 3d combine :)
Folks like me who haven't got a Drawing Tablet appreciate this 🙂
that’s like: people are allergic to walking now? you can literally push a car
we all appreciate hand drawn but 3d has its own benefits
I would totally use this in order to not hand animate every single frame for a game, yet have the stylized look.
