In this video I show you how to make outlines made with line art modifier less boring. I teach you how to use different grease pencil modifiers like simplify, noise, smooth, dot and dash and envelope in Blender.

To render the outline correctly enable Z pass in View Layer Properties under Passes > Data.
do you know how good you are? So, you are insanely good!!
Just call it the Morse code modifier.
and make sure there is a camera facing your collection/object
i like to think of a 1970s animator following along with the tutorial trying to find the like button to complete the tutorial
😂
@@levimagony is it possible to save only the outline separately?
I have absolutely no experience with 3D art/assets but I watched till the end because your explaining is so damn funny
Thanks for watching 😄

I'm really convinced this dude can slap outlines anywhere in the universe
Hey Levi😏
@@levimagony Levi's together strong
Quick, straight to the point, and hilarious. I love you
I love him too bro...
this is is one incredibly gen z art tutorial. I’m all for it and I don’t even use blender
I clicked on this assuming it was a digital art tutorial, but then it was Blender! Not disappointed tbh, I do want to try getting into 3D modeling at some point
i love how this video has constant jingling keys to keep it from being nauseatingly boring but is still informative!
I genuinely thought it was 2D, when i noticed "wait is that blender?"
same, im a 2d artist and thought this was a drawing tutorial. very impressive
I appreciate how straight to the point this guys content is. Very informative and doesn’t skip out on the memes either.
bro i thought this is art but its blender, impressive how you can make it look like that
Fr I don't even use blender but that was pretty interesting.
Are you implying that using Blender isn't an art?
@@Moskeeto I think they meant like digital and traditional, like drawing if you get it?? Not 3D models. But like it's so impressive they made it look like taht
@@MoskeetoI think they meant drawing/painting, you can definitely make art in Blender too.
Perfect. Exactly what I was looking for.
Bro I've been looking for this Hilda style broken lines effect for a long time and gave up. I just happened to stumble upon this video. You are so underrated.
Thanks for watching.💜
I just love your tutorials! I don't understand how to really get a grip on using nodes and modifiers for the result I want yet so your tutorials really help me out😅
funniest tutorial i ever seen , and also very informative , thx bro
Glad you liked it!
This is why I am subscribed.. Pure useful content from this channel that no one else provides.
Great tutorial!
thank you for this guide
incredible, I didn't even know that Blender was capable of this! Thank you so much for sharing this.
Great content, thanks!
great tips!! subbed
Very nice tutorial!!!
Thank you for sharing!
Thanks for watching💜
This is EXACTLY what I was looking for, thanks for making this!
Glad I could help!
Very good!!!
I absolutely adore your content
I absolutely adore this comment💜
I’m quite fond of my outlines right now, so I’ll watch this later when I feel like I need to shake something up in my art 😁
Helpful
i dont use blender, but I watched it all. Nice tutorial bro
thanks for watching✨
Great tutorial, very helpful and engaging.
Glad you enjoyed it
I got this video on my recommendation and I am happy I clicked. The edits are so nice???? And your voice is cool to listen to! Thanks for the tutorial, even though I may never use it, it was very good to watch!
Glad you enjoyed! 😊
This was exactly what I was looking for actually, Cheers Lev!

help guys! when I use pencil lines, as in the video on the render, these lines appear through all other materials as if they are transparent. What should I do to make this not happen?

Damn your tutorials are good. I tried the like and subscribe effects as you instructed and they work like charm!
Ikr, those are the best effects.
Just found your channel. Good stuff! Keep it up.
Thanks.
God, once I finally get myself a PC & dig into Blender through donuts and tears, your videos gonna make me love my life and creating process like never before
Blender is life changing!!! Keep this in mind.
Damn it! I followed the video so hard that I liked and subscribed! You fiend! 🤯
Welcome aboard 😉
this was a great video, informative and funny
Glad you enjoyed it!
Woah another fantastic video! I experimented with the modifiers before but could never get a result I liked. This made things so much clearer thanks! 😊
I'm glad I could help💜
Very interesting video! I just hope I can do this in procreate too
I'm not sure, you gotta do it manually there, as far as I'm aware of.
Great
How do you simultaneously be so funny and dead inside? Can you provide a tutorial?
Sometimes I think about this too...
Niiice thxxx
At this point i am watching both to reinforce previous learning and for top tier humor and entertainment 😂
I dont even know how to do any art, but DAMN what a good video
jajajja super fun content
is there any way to taper the end caps to get a sharper line instead of a round one?
I don't think so, at least I haven't come across an option like that.
Im ngl I thought this was for art
However I will still probably keep this in mind-
hey anyone know how to make the dashed lines stop crawling around when animating the object?
I wanna know that too😄.
But I think it's not possible since the outline is calculated from the camera angle, and on every frame you got a new outline with different dimensions, different dimension means > new calculation for the dash placement.
@@levimagony oh man been fiddling for days but yeah your right, problems with the per frame remdering
Maybe it's possible to bake the outline from 1 frame on texture? @levimagony
Not a blender user, but the editing had me hooked anyways- 😂
My software lacks these features
any advice on removing rogue outlines in unexpected places? love your videos so much!
I had a simliar problem, I think.
At first, of course, you should try to lower the crease treshold in "Edge Types" in the line art modifier. But that changed nothing for me. Turned out that the problems were ngons (which are basically faces with more than 4 edges, usally you should avoid them, cause their often cause problems in shading and so on). So I triangulated the ngons by right clicking the face and select "tiangulate face". That worked for me!
Maybe that wasnt your specific problem, but maybe it helps somebody else.
dunno if you're still having this problem, but it may still be of use to you or others-
on your mesh make a vertex group for anywhere you dont want lines. add a vertex group to your grease pencil in the data panel, then go to your lineart modifier and under vertex weight transfer type the name of your mesh's vertex group in the filter source, and the grease pencil vertex group in the target. then add an opacity modifier after and set the influence to use that vertex group
Even more things can be added... 🤣🤣🤣
Wth when he said like and subscribe my subscribe button started glowing!

I'm just distracted that the rolls don't have tape going to the read head window, so the cassette is broken
Yes it's absolutely broken☹️
the memes 😭
is there a way to change the lineart "framerate"? feels like in the animation the lines change too fast
pd: love your videos :)
Yes you can change the noise randomization "framerate" under the noise modifier>randomize>steps
@@levimagony thank you so much!!
I came across this tutorial by complete accident and have no clue what software it even is for
looks like Blender
i love u
💜
Have you messed around with shader nodes to manipulate the lines?
No
when i bake the line art it disappears ? how do i make it still visible ?
When you add the outline make sure the play head is at the first frame, cause grease pencil adds a keyframe. If you add the grease pencil while the play head is e.g. at the 22th frame the outline won't appear before the 22th frame only after it.
I actually thought the 'boring' outline looked pretty clean and the 'interesting' one looking overdone haha
Edit: I didn't realise this was a 3D object, I commented in the first 10 seconds lol. Okay, the 'interesting' one does make for a pretty cool outline with 3D!
Bro those memes are unnecessary but you added them anyway lmao. Love the video btw
Thanks
nothing happens when i add the collection line art
Hey i have a Blender 4.1 but i dont get a option of grease pencil after right clicking and even after using add to add grease pencil there is no outline to my object what so ever pls HELP!!! i love your videos Thanks!
click on the object > shift+a > grease pencil > object line art
i have an issue where when I add the simplify modifer and reduce it to 0.01 it destroys my computer and I'm not sure why
because it creates too many points and your computer runs out of ram, try avoiding from small numbers
Instead outlines I should pixelate the draw??
Exactly💯💯
Guyys, how is no one talking about how the subscribe button actually glowed in colors when he said in the video like and subscribe
I think it's because everyone else already noticed it days ago when it was added
@@YplanAnimator oh well, that's cute

Hey there Levi , I just wanna ask can I use it for characters and make manga out of it?
Yeah, you can apply lineart and all the modifiers I showed to anything
@@levimagonythanks for replying
is there any way to do this on clip studio?? 😭😭😭😭😭
yes, manually 🤭
Wow this video un installed skitchup from my pc
😍🔥🔥🔥
Is this kind of method to outline transferrable to game engines such as Unity?
Unfortunately not, you have to make it manually with curves i guess.
This depends on your art style though
Yes indeed.
adobe flash lines
This is a great tutorial ! My outline looks better already.
But... I'm having a but of an issue 😅
In my model, I want to have some outlines at specific edges, which I've marked as sharp. However, I've put a bevel modifier on the model to smooth out all the edges, and that includes the sharp ones, and, now, my lineart panics and does both sides at once. I really want it to just do an outline on the edge itself, not around its bevel. How would I do that ?
My lineart is also very messy, there are places everywhere where there are birs of unconnected lineart, and that is very infuriating, I don't know how to fix this without painstakingly move the vertecies by hand so the edge doesn't attract the lineart.
I'm losing my mimd over this, I'm so sorry but no one on Reddit is answering my plea, I need your help 😭😭
To solve the outlines on beveled edges problem watch this video: ruclips.net/user/shortsbDpRuKby0f4
Or follow this text guide: delete the lineart modifier > duplicate the object > apply the bevel modifier > go to edit mode > select the edges where you want the outline > invert the selection (ctrl+i) > delete the vertices so you only keep the edges where you want the outline > go to object mode > right click and convert it to grease pencil > DONE (if you switch to draw mode you can erase stuff if needed)
Messy outlines possible fixes:
1. lineart modifier > edge types > change it to Silhouette (but you will lose details in some cases)
2. lineart modifier > Chaining > Enable all lines if doesn't work try to enable the other boxes and adjust the sliders and check the results
@@levimagony It all works ! Thank you so much !
@@moemuxhagi hell yeah, no problem 😉

erm how to get line art addon
It's not an addon, it's built into Blender.

bra, do u have anything for absolute noobs to blender? maybe teach us to texture a cube in that style?

Well shit thats one of the easiest subs I've ever subbed.

why does nothing happen when I click lineart?
your object is not selected maybe
How to make this in unreal?
There's no lineart option in unreal. So you gotta make the outlines in Blender with the skin modifier (I explain this in the 10 outline tips video, it's the last tip) then export the file to unreal in fbx or your preferred format.
@@levimagony no worries, ive actually never seen your channel before so i wouldn't have seen your other video, ill check it out later for sure! thanks for replying, not many youtubers do :)
@@mati4193 sure thing 😉
I wish your videos had less random filler clips
i failed at the first step, the outline doesn't show up (someone help me plz)
You need a camera, caouse the outline is calculated from the camera's view.
So the line will only visible in camera view?
@@abdullahalhusain346 it will be visible in the viewport as well but it will look messed up, but it looks perfect from the camera view
