We started out 20 years ago with a swag on the ground, one fry pan and probably too much alcohol, now we have a van we love and a Toyota Prado that does everything we ask of it. Travelling 8 months of the year. Happy days ❤️
When it’s your full-time life, and job, it’s easily justified. No such thing as perfect, just perfect for your situation. Gets you where you need to go, with what you need to carry, comfortably and safely. 👍
With your Diesel Mechanic background, you bring an authenticity in showing us the important stuff, the stuff that matters without all the bells and whistles (and waste).
Hav a Chat Justin!, WOW! That was the BEST build info I’ve ever seen presented, you are the only guy that is upfront about the price, every other build series blog make you hang out until the end… what a great open and honest presenter you are Justin. Congratulations on your past successes and hope with your big 2022 coming up for you that it continues for you and Bec and family. Cheers Dav T
I love how you have set the car up for your needs and the type of driving/ touring that you and your family do. You explained you still have the factory Toyota bash plates and didn’t opt for the top of the range clear view mirrors. I’m sure you could’ve got your hands on these items through sponsors etc but it really shows the quality and purpose of the landcruiser build. I far enjoyed watching this rather than a hotted up 79 series that has had all top shelf items fitted just because it can. Keep up with the quality content👌🏻
We have our ultimate touring rig! Our LC 200 series is the bomb! Tows our camper well. One day we will upgrade to a full van but until then, I continue to dream!
That is a great van. We can't wait to see how it performs. I love watching your episodes because you explain things so well. Have loved watching your family grow & develop in confidence. Really looking forward to your next trip. Thanks so much for taking us along. 😀
Brilliant and thorough video. Gave me tons of great ideas in case I ever have enough money to do something similar. I am amazed at how much detail you remember about your upgrades but most of all I appreciate you sharing your experience and knowledge since you live and breathe this stuff. Thanks Justin.
We have a 200 series and it’s the husbands dream to do the chop with a full canopy set up, fridge, coffee machine, beer keg, cooktop! The absolute dream!
My dream touring rig is the rig I already have 2011 gu patrol with bush company RTT and simple rear draw set up , gets me everywhere I need to go, comfortable to live out of and not bad on the eye 😆 4 years ago it was my dream car and even though it will never be finished with mods I absolutely love it !
Been watching your channel for a since nearly the start, from tent, camper and now new van comming in mid jan, cost me a kidney and liver but cant wait to get out and use the crap out of it, cheers for keeping it real
Persistence was key for my hubby. After many years begging and dreaming. I gave him the green light to get his dream car. A mighty 200. No regrets - they are a game changer.
Our ultimate touring rig would be a chopped 200 series but for now we make do with our older 80 series - we have a young family and have just bought our first secondhand van six months ago! We are so excited to start getting out and about more, we have loved it so far. Thanks for the motivation from your videos, we watch them as a family most nights and our toddler can’t get enough - so inspiring! 😀
Our dream build would be a chopped 200 series with a full canopy set up on the back including upright fridge, induction cooktop and enough weight allowance to pack all the kids (& dads) toys! We’ve ordered our dream van so now just working out the costs and needs vs wants on the tow rig!! Thanks again for the inspiration to get out there and see this amazing country!!
Pretty sure my husband was barring up over everything you just went over on your car..... his ultimate dream car. Thanks for sharing Justin! Would love to surprise him with the Navigator gear bag for Xmas... giddy up 🤟
Mate that was an epic review! I love the honesty and the depth you went into about your parts. Plus mate gotta say that final clip about the DIY dash had me in stitches!
Husband would LOVE a fully kitted out F250, with our (currently being built) Jayco Basestation on the back 👌🏼 Me, I’m happy with our current Patrol- hasn’t skipped a beat!!
Couldn't even begin to think about hubby's next ultimate touring build, spending time and money on getting his 100 series to were he'd be content 🙄 Not that I'd ever say it out aloud, I like what he has done 😉
Good honest review mate, i appreciate how you can explain the things you didn’t need. A lot of the 200 reviews have all the fruit and its hard to know what is necessary and what is not
Absolutely love watching you guys. I'm building my new 2021 navara up to be a family tourer for a young family my partner and I are dreaming of. Been trying to find a good size bag that fit on the tyre and the new navigator bin bag would be perfect! Thank you for all the inspiration over the years.
Ultimate touring build is the one we're using right now. 80 series LandCruiser. 💪 Carries 85l of water, two bikes, toolbox and solar panel on roof and tows our caravan for full time living in the road. It takes us EVERYWHERE!!!
I’ve set up a 79 series one of the most important things is a good canopy set up with all the essentials (big fridge and coffee machine) Thanks for another great episode
Really excited to see if the RIVIAN full electric lives up to the hype. Currently it is only just rolling out of the factory but is likely to be here 2023 Big towing capabilities and designed for real off road. That’s my current dream rig with all its bells and whistles
I’d absolutely love to build a Tundra brought in from the states. Always loved a Toyota and I reckon they look unreal and have some great numbers off the shelf. My ultimate rig decked out with a canopy and the works for sure! 🤙🏻
@@TripInAVan Going today to check out the 300 series but they still have to prove if they can tow. Hope to see you and your family on the road one day.
Chopped 200 series would be the absolute dream🤤 pretty much exactly what you guys have 👌…. but I’ll have to settle for a hilux and just a pop up van for now!
Mate!! The chopped LC200 VX is my dream rig. I would have a little rooftop tent on top, a pretty big water storage tank and plumbed to a sink and external shower rose. I would be maxed out on solar and battery power systems, inverter etc.. A nice big upright 12v fridge, pull out tables, 270 degree awning and external and internal white and yellow lights. Some beaut fishing equipment storage, an inflatable kayak and the hubby! Hook up to my sweet caravan and drive off into the sunset! Might as well dream big 😎
Our ideal setup is basically the same as yours. Pro Concept chopped 200, Sunseeker van. Except our van is a club lounge layout so I can get a break from hubby…. 😉 It’s all being built at the moment. So excited!
Mate you are a champion. Not only does our whole family love the show.. but this is the first car special that I've actually loved. Out of all the camping, RUclips shows we watch, I actually loved this ep mate. Brilliant. It's set up soo good. You're a man after me heart! The missus loves your merch and your missus book etc. We just love everything you guys are putting out mate. Hey when you say 360 odd K, is that for the entire set up Inc. the van and tinny etc, or just the ute set up?
Ultimate touring building would definitely be a 76 series with bush company roof top tent, 270 awning and simple slide out kitchen set up. Something that is practical, simple and just works. Its the dream for sure! Love you guys, keep up the awesome content 😁
Omg we need this! We have just started our lap and as much as I love our Jeep, if we could have anything, ie money not being an issue, we would love to build a chopped 200! It would be hubby's dream come true! Love you guys, thanks for inspiring us to live the travelling life. ❤
Heaps of info in the episode I think I’m going to have to watch a couple of times just to take it all in. So much interesting work that has been done to the conversion.
We are just starting to set up our canopy. We got it last Friday MW from ARB. Love your setup. We are only running a a ranger but so excited to hit the road to TAS for 5 weeks in 7 days yew
Definitely a 200 for our family would be the dream, full set up. Recently we have done a 40 series up and plan on having the full set up once sparky do their work. roof top tent, slide fridge, big tool box all the conversions for the best parents get away.
Enjoyed watching this vid! didn’t realize you hated that head unit - it was like you thought of everything except the head unit, look forward to the head unit DIY replacement video :)
Bloody sic setup pilgrim!!! My 200 is a V8 petrol GXL towing a 22 ft caravan, I also have a torque converter lock up 💪 they are 300 hp standard, so with a few upgrades you couldn’t go past a 200 for power/ comfort and towing, I’m stoked so I can only imagine how your rig is to use 😎 great video once again thanks Justin . good gear buy once and you save money ,,,,screens are available just to fit factory plugs and inter grate your a/c control to full touch screen they do look good 👍🏻
We have just purchased a Ram warlock and waiting on our new age caravan to arrive early next year plan to do our first big trip in 2023 so will be getting car Ans van set up for it.
Thanks Justin, excellent rundown. Given me a couple of ideas of "must dos " for my cruiser. Not chopped, but we are full time towing a heavy van. Cheers.
Without a doubt a Toyota Landcruiser chopped. Hubby and I have only ever bought Toyota vehicles, so it’s a no brainer. Oh my goodness..it would be a dream!
My current GU patrol! 200hp 600nm td42t, black label storage solution drawers in the back, towing our camper trailer! We came and said hi you to yesterday in Harvey Norman car park in Karratha!
We have our ultimate touring rig on order :) Dual cab 79 series.! We get her in April then it’s time to hit the road with the wife and 2 kids. Can not wait!
Thoroughly enjoyed this vid. Thanks Justin. Such an in depth look at what suits YOU for YOUR life. And the general information, tips, tricks and opinions. Awesome.
I still blame you (lol) for getting me into a Norweld Canopy after I saw the old Mazda getting one fitted. Best mod I ever did, canopy is a game changer for touring, and a fantastic bit of kit👍👍👍
Great set up. Eell done. It's amhow prices have changed because of the vid. Our Expedition rig build is exciting. Like to see the difference between here in the USA, Australia, and Europe. Thanks Mate for sharing 👍
Got a Ford Ranger that I’ll be slowly building up as tourer as i can afford to continue my adventures around Australia in a bit more comfort than the old VW Transporter! Love the vids keep em up 🤙
I know hubby would love a ram 2500 with all the trimmings, but for now it's a 105 landcrusier wagon Love watching your videos, especially the WA content atm 😁
Hey Justin, Merry Christmas to you and your family. Yesterday I received the Xmas present I ordered for my Chevy after watching this video.....a brand new CRX110 fridge. This replaces the 55 litre Engel upright I've been using for years. The Dometic just squeezes in (height wise) and I'd like to thank you for the tip about lifting the bottom shelf.....24 cans successfully loaded! Dunno if I'll be able to bring myself to screwing stuff to the door, but if it works for you...why not!! All the best for 2022.
your van has taken your family up down, round and across aus...that's enough said about the build, money well spent.!!!YBS has a very similar build as what you have.....epic!!!
Great info mate as usual. The Rig is awesome definitely a dream vehicle for most Cheers for the contact info will come in handy as doing a build next year for full time touring.
Hubbys 79 series is awesome with loads of bells and whistles which I can’t explain 🤣 but for a bit more room for our 2 growing boys we would love a chopped 200 series.
Fantastic truck Justin you have done a great job on it 👍 looks smicko I will have to settle for my 80 series just updated my 12 volt system yours puts mine to shame keep the vids coming along great work guys
Ultimate Touring build would be a 4x4 van setup, VW Crafter or Mercedes Sprinter. But really can’t go past a 200 series in Aus for mods & parts availability everywhere. Love the series and tune in each episode. Keep doing what you love mate. 👍🏼🙏🏼👊🏼
Thanks Justin. Good vid. We are in talks with PTC right now regarding our build. It’s time and we bloody trust em ay 💪🏼 Starting to weigh up whether to buy our car and then take it to a canopy builder or do the whole thing through Caleb and the team. Cost is gonna be a factor but quality comes first.
The ultimate build with no limit would be a chopped 200 with decked out canopy but I would like to deck out my current SR Hilux that would do me and my kids to travel.
I agree Kelly. The dream rig. But I’m the meantime the SR Hilux is a good vehicle. I’m slowly working through setting mine up too. Got some more great ideas from the Trip in a van crew. Keep up the great work Team TIAV. 👌🏻👍🏻
Dream build would 100% be a chopped 200 or 79 series 🚜However I’ve just purchased a Hilux for our upcoming trip around oz inspired by you lot. Build is pending but holy smokes it’s looking good already. So so many ideas from you guys incorporated already! Cheers legends
I’ve got my 200 and just picked up our new van. I’ve got me dream rig just not me dream navigator bag for the spare 🤞🏼 Kids and I set off Xmas Eve! Mumma and her tribe 👩👧👦
My Ultimate tour rig is my 2007 Land Rover defender 130 Ute, witch I am in the process of restoring her to tour worthy status! And hopefully should be chasing those sunrise’s and sunset’s around Australia very soon! 🤙🏽
105 1HDFTE, after crunching numbers and wanting dual cabs nothing ever compares to a 105 with the trusted 1HDFTE. Keeping it simple 👌Love the chopped 200!
Nice build! Bull bar/side steps are coated in Sahara black. Holds up better than satin, gloss or ripple black. Sahara black is becoming popular as we have coated many trays and canopies in this colour.
Nps300. 3.5t towing plus a 5.2L motor. With a tune it would be the perfect rig. Spring mounted tray and then you have room for a rooftopper/custom canopy plus towing a big van.
We started out 20 years ago with a swag on the ground, one fry pan and probably too much alcohol, now we have a van we love and a Toyota Prado that does everything we ask of it. Travelling 8 months of the year. Happy days ❤️

Ultimate Touring build would be a 4x4 van setup, VW Crafter or Mercedes Sprinter. But really can’t go past a 200 series in Aus for mods & parts availability everywhere. Love the series and tune in each episode. Keep doing what you love mate. 👍🏼🙏🏼👊🏼
Cheers mate
Thanks Justin. Good vid. We are in talks with PTC right now regarding our build. It’s time and we bloody trust em ay 💪🏼
Starting to weigh up whether to buy our car and then take it to a canopy builder or do the whole thing through Caleb and the team. Cost is gonna be a factor but quality comes first.
Best of luck! Caleb is the way to go mate!!! Knows what he's doing hey. Bloody good work
you have Everything!! definitely the bees knees of setups !!
Cheers mate
I’ve got my 200 and just picked up our new van. I’ve got me dream rig just not me dream navigator bag for the spare 🤞🏼 Kids and I set off Xmas Eve! Mumma and her tribe 👩👧👦
My Ultimate tour rig is my 2007 Land Rover defender 130 Ute, witch I am in the process of restoring her to tour worthy status! And hopefully should be chasing those sunrise’s and sunset’s around Australia very soon! 🤙🏽
So good 💪
We would’ve loved a 200 but couldn’t work with weights so ultimate setup is the RAM1500 with custom canopy 💪🏽 Another great vid!
That shot at the start is bloody awesome 👌
105 1HDFTE, after crunching numbers and wanting dual cabs nothing ever compares to a 105 with the trusted 1HDFTE. Keeping it simple 👌Love the chopped 200!
Nice build! Bull bar/side steps are coated in Sahara black. Holds up better than satin, gloss or ripple black. Sahara black is becoming popular as we have coated many trays and canopies in this colour.
I think you guys have our absolute dream build! One powerball and I'm in ☺
Nps300. 3.5t towing plus a 5.2L motor. With a tune it would be the perfect rig.
Spring mounted tray and then you have room for a rooftopper/custom canopy plus towing a big van.
