I probably won't fit as many luxuries (I mean who wants a coffee machine and a toaster in the bush?), but that ARB kit, the canopy and a decent rooftop tent, all on arguably the best looking UTE currently available in the market. Maybe one day I can save up enough to build me something similar, until then I will make the best of my stock fourby going where I can with a swag and a cooler box for the weekend.

    One of these days I hope I will be able to understand why people still fit chest-type fridges on heavy drop slides, in lieu of the more sensible idea of a conventional front-opening fridge. It is fixed in position and requires no heavy slide...and stuff inside is MUCH easier to access. My Silverado came with a drop down fridge slide and aluminium cage. The 60 litre Engel + slide + cage was removed and weighed-in @ 100kg. I junked the whole lot and replaced it with an upright Engel (I got a cheap 55 litre unit off Gumtree) which weighs 23kg.
    I'm hoping you'll tell us how much that Ranger weighs with all that stuff on it (including passengers etc when fully loaded) and see how that compares with the GVM.

    • @MountainTrailRV
      @MountainTrailRV  4 года назад +1

      The tare weight is now 3000kg, we have a GVM upgrade to 3500kg.
      Originally able to tow 3500kg, however, due to GCM of 6000kg, the most we could tow is now 2500kg. Our main priority was to make this a self-sufficient expedition vehicle and towing was not necessary.

    • @seventytwo1001000
      @seventytwo1001000 4 года назад +7

      My reasoning would be securing of items in the fridge and chest style fridges are more efficient. Upright fridges while easier to access allow the contents to move around a hell of a lot more especially on rough tracks, where as chest style you can tetris every thing in to keep stuff from moving around. The second reason is efficiency, chest style fridges use less power than uprights which is important if you are running off batteries. Chest fridges dont dump out all the cold air every time you open the door like an upright does, so no having to cool down the air again. You can fill a chest fridge to the brim which you just cant do with an upright, this means greater thermal mass which easier to keep cold once its at temperature. I am sure there are other benefits to uprights, but for me the benefits of the chest fridge out weigh the cons

    Pretty, but so many issues, why did you do the suspension first ? And one of my biggest bugbears with these, why do people think 200ah is a lot ? If your coffee machine pulls 3000w that's about half an hour of power ! It doesn't look like fun in the rain either, no awning or overhang on the tent which will make it hard to keep dry and clean inside. No point in having a snorkel, as to take it in water past the sliders your risking your electric heated seats and expensive interior. It's a really expensive show pony.

      As for water crossings ive been to Cape York and done water crossings where the water was coming over the top of the bull bar and we didn't get water in the car or canopy the idea is not to stop moving in deep water and let it fill the car. I love my build fantastic outback touring vehicle and love the build they have done.

    As a Ranger owner in the USA, I’m very mad. I need, want, and must have one like that. Too bad we are hindered with the 2.3 liter turbo only. I have added a Stage 3 tuner to add 60 hp & 60 lb ft of torque. I love it.

    About as Shmick as you can get! What a great add for all involved but have to disagree with you, the most exciting bits are the work HiCat and you guys did, not the tent!!!😁 That canopy looks awesome.Nice to know the costs as well. Good job.

    Super nice build video. i like that there's no secrets in the pricing here. Definitely a lot of cash for the total build. I live in Thailand and there's plenty of Thai sources for similar items, but when priced out exactly as this in Thai baht the total would be 3.2M baht. I think the point here is not to do all the same things, but all the Great ideas in a similar build is achievable for allot less given a few items left out that some people don't really need. Thanks for the video, definitely will be watching your channel again!

    The funny thing is that I can this work by myself and remove a full Electric Wildtrak Roller lid & tray liner and then fit it onto a new Raptor all within 2hrs flat. I don't drill any holes at all and I also make them watertight too. correctly.........
