    Hi Ryan, really enjoy your channel. I also watch Ed's channel too. Green with envy. Did you do brake up-grades? Regards Lionel

    • @4x4ventures_southafrica
      @4x4ventures_southafrica  Год назад

      Hi Lionel, I did do a POWER BRAKE upgrade, but, only on front disc brake pads and discs, which was actually really expensive for zero to no return, they failed with my family in car going down a long downhill towing. Wasn’t happy with them at all. Back to standard brake pads and front discs, and the only real issue is long downhills when brake fluid over heats. Very dangerous situation. So upgraded brake fluid, and also, very very expensive. If you do do a brake upgrade, make sure it includes: discs, brake pads, brake fluid that has very high temperature durability, and replace full back drums to full discs, pads and integration with standard traction control safety features of the Ford Ranger. If you are very very heavy, look at bigger discs all round. This will mean larger rims and tyres to suit. Good luck and thank you for your support legend 👌

    • @4x4ventures_southafrica
      @4x4ventures_southafrica  3 года назад +2

      Thank you Andre and great question. To be honest, I think it's a good option. I've had to replace my right front drive shaft twice. Look, it is capable, and reliable. But, I still think it falls into the category of a soft off reader, when compared to what an LC 79 is. However, for the price and what you get, it is great. Servicing is expensive though and resale not the best. Driving it, well, I'm keeping it for another 3 years. I think that's a great return for a daily driver, with all the added weight and used as a daily driver. I have heard though that some just have endless issues with their rangers . . .

    • @4x4ventures_southafrica
      @4x4ventures_southafrica  3 года назад

      Hi Mike, sorry for the delayed response. Good set of questions. I'll try answer as best I can. I went for the lower spec'd ranger for 2 reasons. 1. Value for money and affordability, and 2. I had heard from someone that the 2.2 XL motor was a hardier motor on account of longevity.
      The vehicle has a standard GVM of 3200kgs, and TARRE of 2810Kgs (I think) With the new setup the TARRE is 2880kgs unloaded, I think, and haven't weighed it loaded, I'm sitting at about 3300kgs. So roughly 100kgs over GVM. However, this is for the standard ranger. I have had the suspension upgraded allround to OME, so constant 400s in the back and front coils also upped for front weight with winch added.
      At the moment, I am considering airbags at the back, just to help the constant 400s a bit, and to lessen top sway when added loads of wood are put on the roof.
      I've done a few trips now with the new setup and very very happy with the weights and how both chassis and handling of vehicle are very pleasing. Hope this helps.

    Fabulous video - I'm in the market for and have ordered a 2024 Ranger rated for 7,500 lb tow weight in the U.S. Dealer says it can handle my 4300 lb camper trailer, but family with pickups for years say get something bigger. Do you think I need a stock F-150 or keep with the stock Ranger?

    • @4x4ventures_southafrica

    Great video as always boet, at the 9:10 mark you said, you regretted taking the half kitchen unit, in you opinion is it better getting the full side kitchen unit and sacrificing the small access area that you get with the half kitchen unit?

    • @4x4ventures_southafrica
      @4x4ventures_southafrica  3 года назад +1

      Thanks mate. Good question. I would sacrifice one whole side. Half kitchen unit, and the other half on one side for electrical system. One side open to load easily accessible items. To be honest, I battle with the canopy units. I sometimes have to stand on the tyre and squeeze through the opening to access packed items that may have rolled around. This is quite a job. Is there a solve, yes, but, we'll have to see how it goes. I think either one full side kitchen unit and electrics, or two sides half units, kitchen on one side and electrical on the other. Unfortunately the units take up space on the inside on the canopy, so packing and unpacking becomes a real strategy, for me at least. In time there will be a follow up video on the above mentioned

    Question. I heard the alternator sits really low on the engine.( towards the bottom) have you forged any water deep enough to give you issues?

    • @4x4ventures_southafrica

      Not sure. Never heard that. Been through some water and haven't had issues. Remember, it's not a submarine 🤣 I try not go through water above the 800mm mark

    • @4x4ventures_southafrica

      Fairly often. No issues with the alternator. The ranger has a wading depth of 800mm. Just done full wheel submersion on our latest trip. Zero issues. Like I mentioned. I'm not a fan of water crossings. Be very very cautious

    Hi Ryan
    Your honest opinion please . Are you happy with the 2.2 manual ?
    I am looking to get the automatic 4x4 , would you recommend this drivetrain for general overlanding ?
    Also considering 3.2 auto
    Thanks a mill
    Sieg

    • @4x4ventures_southafrica
      @4x4ventures_southafrica  2 года назад

      Hi Sieg. Honestly, yes, very very happy. This 2.2 manual has been really surprising and up to any challenge. I would still go with the manual out of throttle and gear change control preference, in 4L and reliability in the manual transmission. Yes, I do recommend it as an overlander, but, with the right mods and additions. Fuel consumption goes up, but very comfortable when driving. As a pick up certain additions are needed. I am not familiar with the newer models, but can say that the model and year I’m driving has been really good. T7 2015 model, 2.2 XL 4x4 double cab. What you should be asking is, what would I buy next?

      @@4x4ventures_southafrica thanks so much Ryan , yes the T7 engine is awesome.
      I will probably look at the manual , i am considering the extended cab vs the DC , both provide what i like .

      Take care and all the best
