We’re back and in the episode It goes very wrong and could be the end of our Overlanding adventure. Enjoy episode 1 to what is going to be an amazing series. Cheers legends
Man, my world turned upside down when I saw the most positive man, Ryan, of all people, sad and defeated. So glad for you and me and all of us that you found your bearings and so much positivity again to make it on a new trip with just a few days of preparation. What an example of resilience and positivity. And you know; what you radiate, you receive. Goes to show.
@@4x4ventures_southafrica allthough it made me sad with you, my compliments for laying bare your soul there. Enjoy your trips to the fullest. Ps in july 23 was in Robins and on that same small road a.o past chingahobe dam (was it really detema in the film, and not chingahobe, if so boy it was dried out). Sorry about your truck there Ryan. It's never a nice thing to go through that. But on a happier note , it all turned out well in the end. I'm happy for you. Thanks for coming to our country visiting Robins and Sinamatella camps. I've had great times at these places in the past. Marvelous adventure that. Can hardly wait for the next episode.❤

Ryan, great video and content. I grew up in my teenager years traveling much of Southern Africa with my family, vehicle breakdown was stock standard on most of those trips...regardless of vehicle manufacturer. It is never a nice moment when it happens. Once it happened with us between Kang and Ghanzi, we where towed by a Namibian from Windhoek all the way to Gobabis. From there a flatbed to Swakopmund. Thank you Ryan & Ed who came to our rescue in Gonarezhou when our battery died in the middle of the day in an isolated spot. Look forward to that episode and some future trips to Mozambique 🇲🇿
Hi Ryan. The exact same thing has just happened to my 3.2lt XLT ranger on route to Mozambique. Had the exact same vibration and no warnings and then loss of power and oil everywhere! My car is still being assessed, but I am almost certain it’s the same situation as you! 😢
Aaaaaaaaaahhhhh, you my friend are an absolute magician with the patience of a pure cooking athlete to be able to train ol Rhys. Enjoy mate and thanks for reaching out bud
Hey Ryan, man, my heart made a deafening THUMP after the first few minutes, when I heard you need a new motor. I am very glad that you have buddies in the caliber of Ed, these buddies are worth a lot! Hope you get sorted out soon, car wise and the other thing as well. Keep up the good work, but most of all look after yourself, get back into balance. Sending a big "man hug" and "strongs", all the best! 🛻
I feel for you dude, not lekker! Dirty fuel probably played a part. I don’t know the kilometres on your vehicle and if the injectors were ever cleaned or replaced. It is recommended to have them done every 200000 to 250000kms. An expensive operation indeed 🙁 A common problem with common rail diesels. Thanks for a great show ❤
Awesome Trevor and appreciate the feedback. Thanks for sharing. The ranger was at 147000 kms. No cleaning of the injectors was done. I was looking at doing them at 160 000kms though, but the gremlins heard my thoughts for sure. Take care and I’ll see you at the next one
Good work 👍 Have witnessed this scenario over landing my way around Australia yes modern diesels are not tolerant to low grade/contaminated fuel maybe something to consider is to use a high quality filter funnel which pre filters while filling at the fuel pump also gives you a chance to visually check what’s going into the tank also if you haven’t already got a good aftermarket pre filter separator with warning light additionally to what the cars factory filters these things will buy you some preventative insurance so you get a long life from your new motor I in fact run a twenty yrld petrol car because I don’t trust modern diesel cars in super remote places but that’s not for everyone I know JA
Excellent presentation of the complete overlanding experience. Great to watch. I’ve always wondered why we don’t have diesel polishers on overlanding vehicles, similar to what you have on yachts, are they too big? Would love to know.
Absolutely mate. This suspension is absolutely fantastic. Can’t wait to do my final review of them. Brilliant, and what’s even better is the support from the guys over at opposite lock Africa. The best chaps. Brilliant
Thanks for your input and sorry but also glad you could have solved your problem with your Ranger. I have a 2015 T6 3.2 Supercab auto. Only have 120K happy km's. I am a bit concerened about the bad fuel problems causing the problems you experienced. Do you have any advise regarding type of fuel filters and how often a person should actually replace them. Other thing is advise for an extended air intake or 'snorkel' as we call it here in SA. Thanks for all your other videos, really enjoy it. Pieter
"There's a whole bunch in there" "Okay, it's called the herd dude" 😂😂😂 you made me laugh. Love you guys, great contents you're giving us. Love from Zim living in the UK. One Africa, one people ❤
Great content. I have a question regarding your comments that it could have potentially been the bad fuel in Zambia that may have contributed in part to the failure you experienced. With that in mind what sort of risk mitigation measure could one take in order to minimize this risk. I’ve seen guys add tablets to their fuel in Botswana with a Pajero sport as it gave us a check engine light when we filled up obviously with bad fuel. Does anything like that exist? Great content. I always watch when I start planning my trips. Not nearly as extreme as your trips but I tend to learn something new. Thank you.
Thank you for your comment and sorry for my delayed response. The poor fuel quality can be mitigated by a reliable and good diesel conditioner. I use flash lube, and a pre diesel filter. However, paraffin is the mix that over time can and will lead to pistons blowing. It happens, but educate yourself on the matter, as it seems to be a BIG business to local fuel cartels to thin out diesel with paraffin.
Wow. Sorry about the vehicle trouble. All seems have worked out. Hwange, we were lucky enough to spend a day there in 2019 with some great guides. Our first roan antelope, but I don't which was better, sitting for half an hour with 3 cheetahs on the side of the road or a massive pride of lions sleeping in the 43 degree heat.
@@4x4ventures_southafrica almost moved to SA once😅. Lovely yes, rough too, got 30cm snow last days, the 6th month of winter. Cars a big business here, testing, worked myself 2 years at VW testing for Porsche & Audi
My biggest concern moving on would be fuel, so vital to get quality fuel. Maybe consider building a trailer that will carry fuel . Expedition overland has a nice set-up for fuel.
Yuuuup, fuel quality is a major concern for us absolutely. We often joke about carrying fuel trailers. Crazy to think that that’s what it’s come to. We have installed extra fuel filters, but, it seems we have to find another way.
@@4x4ventures_southafrica I have read about the EGR been blanked off and wonder if you could share more details on why, how and who can do it as I have a 3.2 Ranger doing 110 000km. Thank you from SA
The chaps at Ford did it under heir suggestion. EGR stands for exhaust gas regulator. Apparently it somewhat hinder performance in due respect of controlling emissions. Blanking this outlet is simple and is apparently good for the motor as it dispels heat and breathes better? Hope I’m right
We’re back and in the episode It goes very wrong and could be the end of our Overlanding adventure. Enjoy episode 1 to what is going to be an amazing series. Cheers legends

What an epic episode it is, glad to see the ranger performing absolutely very well after it's reborn and to see you back in the bush which is always the best environment to be. Can't wait to see the next amazing episode 🤙 Magic !!!
Thank you Ryan & Ed who came to our rescue in Gonarezhou when our battery died in the middle of the day in an isolated spot. Look forward to that episode and some future trips to Mozambique 🇲🇿
Awesome to meet you Eric. Thank you for your support mate and great to see you back up and running. Yes, Mocam in the future legend 👌
Always behind you guys. Whatever happens it's god's will he was avoiding something .
100% take it as it comes, good or bad there is a plan, whether you make it or it happens. Trust and be patient in the process
Great to see you are up and runninh bud🤙🏻
Thank you legend. Hope you are well Boet 🙌
@@4x4ventures_southafrica my pleasure bud, doing good and healthy, one trip at a time. Hope to link up soon. Stay safe and happy travels🤙🏻
For the Future, better luck with your engine !!
Cheers to that Werner. Hoping and praying all will be very well 👌
Hi Ryan. The exact same thing has just happened to my 3.2lt XLT ranger on route to Mozambique. Had the exact same vibration and no warnings and then loss of power and oil everywhere! My car is still being assessed, but I am almost certain it’s the same situation as you! 😢
Awesome vid, looking forward to more. You can thank me for teaching Rhys how to do some cooking during lockdown :)
Shame about the Ranger but great to see you back on the road!
It happens. Yes, great to be back on the road again, and running very well at this stage
Thanks!
Thank you legend for your amazing support. Really appreciate it Fayzal
No adventure can take the medal without wounds you’ll heal up and conquer the journey 🤙🏼.
Thank you
I feel for you dude, not lekker!
Good work 👍
Have witnessed this scenario over landing my way around Australia yes modern diesels are not tolerant to low grade/contaminated fuel maybe something to consider is to use a high quality filter funnel which pre filters while filling at the fuel pump also gives you a chance to visually check what’s going into the tank also if you haven’t already got a good aftermarket pre filter separator with warning light additionally to what the cars factory filters these things will buy you some preventative insurance so you get a long life from your new motor
I in fact run a twenty yrld petrol car because I don’t trust modern diesel cars in super remote places but that’s not for everyone I know
JA
Excellent presentation of the complete overlanding experience. Great to watch.
I’ve always wondered why we don’t have diesel polishers on overlanding vehicles, similar to what you have on yachts, are they too big?
Would love to know.
Ryan, you're the best man, chin up
Tough Dog shocks are brilliant! I’ve had the oversized ToughDogs for 150k km, still performs.

Ford Ranger for an experienced person
The Turbo
I say it in the show. Head gasket, blown piston 1 and 4
Nice one bud …. Strongs man 🙌
Thank you legend. Hanging in there and doing much much better
@@4x4ventures_southafrica you’ve got this boet
Absolutely cuzzy
Luckily you are close to home… imagine this happening in Maun, Goo Moremi or CKGR.
I think we pushed our bakkies harder…
Sorry to hear Ryan. I also drive a 2.2 TDCI Ranger. Did you remap the ECU on the old engine? I’ve been considering, but after this video I’m not sure.
Had your Warranty expired? Perhaps you could look at taking out an extended mliage warranty on the New Motor? it may help out in future?.
Cars here in Swedish Lapland often runs over 300'000km..need to, long distances❄️
Good stuff. Lapland is a dream destination for my wife and kids. Lovely place you live in. Thank you for your support.
Lekker man. You have been through the wringer last few months boet! Don’t mess with engine mapping! Leave her standard in my opinion on this one
Yes, very tough but hopefully we are through it now. ABSOLUTELY ZERO MAPPING OR PLAYING AROUND. EGR was blanked though 😬
Good decision. Enjoying the content. Onward and upward. Reece ads a Lekker dynamic 👌
