Ian Thornley is the most unique and talented guitarist in years. Great songwriter and a KILLER voice...I hope this guy and this band sell a billion records.
Every few weeks or so, I come back on here, listen to this song, and have to talk about it. This is one of my top ten favorite songs of all time, and it's because it speaks to every person that hears it. Everybody has "That Song," that takes them back to another place and time. THIS song is about THAT song, and that's just perfect, man, especially when you throw in that heavy Big Wreck crunch, buttery melody and harmony, and those soaring vocals ("And when you're haaa-aaAAA-AAAATEEEEEDDDDD" :) ), it's just on another level, man.
How did I miss Big Wreck? I have been binge watching their RUclips stuff the last few days...man, what tunes and tones! As an old fart (62 ) I'm usually pretty guilty of bemoaning the lack of good newer music. Ian and crew have put a restraining order on my whining.
THAT SOUNDED FUCKING PERFECT. you guys are so perfectly on time it sounds wonderful. you guys have great guitar, bass, insane drums and vocals. i love it so much. this performance was so tight👍🏼👍🏼
I still remember in college in a townhouse late at night when MTV still played music and The Oaf came on and I was hooked. Worked their merch booth at the Bottleneck in Lawrence, KS and saw an amazing show.
1:35 - 1:49 WOOOOOWWW! The talent ! you can hear someone in the background that gets it I have to see it live ! Can't think of a more talented performer. Go Ian
Crazy how a group can bring back such memories. Wake boarding in Oklahoma before anything mattered. 1997 such fun, before life really hit. Great times and great friends
From Québec here -Just learned recently that this is a Canadian band... I will add this to my long playlist of good bands in Canada in English... and in French !
Ian you know how we usually prefer our favorite songs to not change? Well, you're breaking the pattern again and I love every different nuance of every performance seen. Coming back to Montreal Soon? Please.
they do have a live album from last year , it's only available on ITUNES it's called BAG OF TRICKS , theres live tracks from ALBATROSS tour , and a couple other tunes , it's awesome I have it !!!... hope that helps you
massive talent. i get a combo of jeff buckley and chris cornell. respect to him in his own right. just saying from a muso perspective. absolutely brilliant.
i love this song and have the cd and other big wreck and thornley cds..i been listening to this for over fifteen years and yes i have tried to google it...but what is a "pocket book Brando:?
Am I the only one that thinks the speed is a little off on this video? It is slightly fast. Another great performance by Ian though (and the band). Do they ever have bad shows? I don't think so. P.S. Please release more copies of Bag of Tricks on vinyl. And all the other albums too that aren't already on vinyl. Either way, thanks for all the cool tunes!
I think that audience needs to step up their clap game a little more. That applause is what you would expect at a coffee shop and some dude covering Wonderwall.
I'm not a percussionist, does anyone know what's going on at 2:53? Just a broken stick, or switching sticks for a different sound??So glad I got to see him live in Saskatoon Feb 2016.
That's Pete Thorn and his band backing Ian. Pete introduced John Suhr (Guitar maker extraordinaire) to Ian... Factory Party with awesome recording there of!
The whole band here is different. All seasoned pro's, though. The drummer is Blair Sinta, session guy, played with a ton of big name artists, same with Pete Thorn (guitarist). This line up sounds killer, great energy. I'd love to hear this line up, but with Dave on bass, I think that would be mind blowing.
I love Big Wreck - I saw them in many LIVES, but this performance was a little weird for me.... not nearly as soulful or as much of the Big Wreck energy Live.
I heard on the radio that Ian Thornley applied for singer of “Velvet Revolver” and Slash said “if we wanted Chris Cornell we would have called him” . How’s velvet revolver these days slash ?
Ian Thornley is the most unique and talented guitarist in years. Great songwriter and a KILLER voice...I hope this guy and this band sell a billion records.
So badass seeing Pete thorn backing, WOW!
Just saw him perform last week, just wow he really is talented took me back ❤
This song creates a whirlwind of nostalgia … and this is such a great version
How have I only just found this now? Two of my favourite guitarists on stage together.
So good , never tire of this song, brings back my collage days!!! I love that song!!!!
I play this as loud as I possibly can when ever it is in on the radio in the car. I have the album and it is killer.
Ian Thornley is so talented!! This is one of my all time favourite songs.
I really love this song...
"'Cause, yeah, that's rare
I really love that tune
Man, I love that song
I love that song
I love that song..."
Ian's voice brings tears to my eyes. He's absolutely amazing.
I wanna hear him cover chris cornell.
Ian is just pure talent , doesn't get any better than him
FUCKING LOVE THIS SONG!!!
This is a beautiful performance by exceptional musicians and an amazing live recording.
One of my favorite songs of all time!! I need to hear this live in my lifetime!!!!!!
This is so incredibly authentic, the nostalgia and euphoria his voice brings is uncanny. The stage presence, simply impressive.
True Words FOR LIFE.!!!!!....
Crazy good, Ian's voice, amazing.
Pete Thorn totally gets Ian's music here. Fantastic stuff...

That song! I love this song. A song about a song that makes me nostalgic.

Only missed them by 30 years :)
The more i listen the more the more “we” get hooked! Amazing guitarist and voice and vocal range!
That song just blows me wide open...I love this band !
THAT SOUNDED FUCKING PERFECT. you guys are so perfectly on time it sounds wonderful. you guys have great guitar, bass, insane drums and vocals. i love it so much. this performance was so tight👍🏼👍🏼
Really LOVE that TUUUUuuuUUUUUnnNNEEEeee
I love this song.
This may be the best version of this song ever.
I still remember in college in a townhouse late at night when MTV still played music and The Oaf came on and I was hooked. Worked their merch booth at the Bottleneck in Lawrence, KS and saw an amazing show.
best live version!!!
Thorn + Thornley = win
Amazing live performance. Wow.
It's fitting that Pete Thorn is backing Thornley here and also backs Chris Cornell. I've always thought of Ian as Canada's Chris Cornell. Great stuff.
Ron Brodeur
Agreed. I love Chris' studio stuff, but he sounds like strangled cats at most of his live performances. ._.
Pete is a Canuck too.
Pete is from Edmonton , he introduced Ian To Suhr. Pete was the catalyst to Ian doing his Suhr partnership
I've watched this stuff so many times, and I never realized that was Pete Thorn. In my head he's 6 feet tall and bullet proof.
_t-d_ Hair was different there
God this is so good these guys are amazing
Never gets old..great song!!
1:35 - 1:49 WOOOOOWWW! The talent !
you can hear someone in the background that gets it
I have to see it live ! Can't think of a more talented performer. Go Ian
Killer.. just fucking Killer
damn they are good!! best band ever!! grew up with this song in my teens. gives me chills everytime
Crazy how a group can bring back such memories. Wake boarding in Oklahoma before anything mattered. 1997 such fun, before life really hit. Great times and great friends
Total Awesome Tones . The sound is top notch !!!
Pretty damn incredible. Maturity has set this guy way way above most songwriters of today. Great performance!
Big Shiny Tunes 3. Ahhh Yeah! Good times.
Man. I've seen this one live multiple times, and I NEVER tire of it. I mean, it's an oldie, but DAMN. Such raw power. Always get to me.
One of my favorite bands!
Tone monsters ! You fellas rock !
This guy is a Canadian icon H e should get the order of Canada!
From Québec here -Just learned recently that this is a Canadian band... I will add this to my long playlist of good bands in Canada in English... and in French !
“We just drove past your old house and you weren’t there” sometimes songwriting doesn’t need to be complicated to be brilliant
Big Wreck... Unleashed...
Cool to see a couple of Canadian boys rocking out.
Pete Thorn one of the best guitarists out there. Hard working talented and well respected. Thorn, Thornley...?
Pete Thorns tone is always on point.
Way to take an already boss tune to yet another level Ian
so heavy sounding and that voice. Chris Cornell is great - Ian Thornley is right up there.
I think thorny is the best guitar player ive ever seen
Awesome! I had no idea Ian was playing Suhr now so I didn't expect this at all! One of my favourite tunes!
Ian has TONS of guitars. I doubt he's playing Suhr exclusively.
Haha, good point. :P
My god.......👌🏻
Ian I did hear you scream from the top of your lungs
This is better than the studio version. Love it.
That voice....
My favorite song from In Loving Memory Of...killer
Sweet!
fantastic!!!!!
My god,...amazing.
Incredible Voice. They Don't make em like that anymore
amazing.
they sound better live!!! wow, incredible talent
Melting faces!
This song is Me stealing My Dad's Jeep, to sneak over to My girlfriends house. Forever
Ian you know how we usually prefer our favorite songs to not change? Well, you're breaking the pattern again and I love every different nuance of every performance seen. Coming back to Montreal Soon? Please.

they do have a live album from last year , it's only available on ITUNES it's called BAG OF TRICKS , theres live tracks from ALBATROSS tour , and a couple other tunes , it's awesome I have it !!!... hope that helps you
would luv to see them in Austin.
Why are there ONLY 5 songs in this set??
Would Love to see Pete Thorn and Ian Thornley have a shred off!!! Pete is a huge monster player incase you guys don't know.
TorchwoodLuthiers why would you want to see such violence ?
massive talent. i get a combo of jeff buckley and chris cornell. respect to him in his own right. just saying from a muso perspective. absolutely brilliant.

Would love to hear the song he did when trying out for Velvet Revolver.
Like the faster tempo.
Seriously, who's hitting the dislike button?
Suhr Factory "Party"? I don't think anybody told the audience.
I miss Brian.
I'm not a percussionist, does anyone know what's going on at 2:53? Just a broken stick, or switching sticks for a different sound??So glad I got to see him live in Saskatoon Feb 2016.
I don't hear what you're talking about.
Ok, so that's obviously Ian... but who are these other guys??
That's Pete Thorn and his band backing Ian. Pete introduced John Suhr (Guitar maker extraordinaire) to Ian... Factory Party with awesome recording there of!
betbuk Pete's Band backed Chris Cornell for a stint as well. Hell of a band.
Wth? Pete thorn?!
Just curios Is Ian using a Clapton strat or a strat with lace sensors.. Sounds good
Neither. It's a Suhr with their own pickups.
Seems like they had a different drummer for this performance. Actually better than the old drummer.
The whole band here is different. All seasoned pro's, though. The drummer is Blair Sinta, session guy, played with a ton of big name artists, same with Pete Thorn (guitarist). @@drumtravelfun fo sho man.
@@drumtravelfunDave should always be on bass, on everything, by everyone.

Big wreck blows
