If you want to emboss around a cylinder without too much trial and error, your sketch width needs to match the circumference of the cylinder's outer wall. So 2(Pi)R to get the correct width.
He didn't actually do them on video it was time section he just went back to the beginning but if you haven't found the emboss tool on sold menu expend it and you will see ir it's kinda in mid section
This was just the sort of thing I was looking for ! I am a beginner in Fusion 360 and wanted the ability to add the appearance of riveted steel plates to my rocket models for an art project. Your video was so fascinating I just had to subscribe.
Some of this would have been SO USEFUL on a model I made recently. I've been wanting to make some major changes to that model, I may redraw it using what I've learned here.
Oh, this opens up so many doors for me. I've been experimenting with lithophane prints, and being able to use SVG sketches instead of online lithophane generators makes it possible to absorb the lithophane into more complex models. This is perfect - I'm interested to see how embossing/debossing works with a sphere. Thank you for a very good tutorial: Clear, concise and easy to follow.
You know, that's exactly de reason why I came across this video: To make lithophanes using SVG patterns. I was using blender before, but this one project require more control of the dimensions, so I decided to try Fusion360.
(edit to add note: Of course, as soon as I post, I found another response like mine, even though I read them all and didn't find it before)... ;) Noe... You like parameters as much as I do, so I was surprised that you never tried to use math on your sketches in these experiments. How about making the width of your sketch pattern elements based on the Circumference of your cylinder? If Fusion gives you an error with an exact match of (Circumference = PI * Diameter), then try subtracting a small amount (like 0.01). Looking online, it looks like "PI", in all-caps, is recognized by Fusion. Embossing repeatable shapes? Try some Parameters: Count=24 (remember no units) Shape_width = ((PI * Diameter) / Count) - Padding
This is a great tutorial. Thank you! I am trying to repeat this method on the surface of an elipse but i cant seem to select the elipse surface when doing the emboss operation. Anyone know a solution to this or had a similar problem?
So many people are suggesting to do complicated things like spiral cuts and apply circular patterns to that and I was getting insane. This looks SO MUCH EASIER.
Great tutorial! When you use pattern tool or emboss, does it have to be on a full body? Can it be across multiple bodies? I'm running into an issue where I'm trying to apply a brick pattern across multiple bodies, but it won't let me.
The tapered structure is the way is because you are actually conformal mapping the geometry on the other surface and therefor presurfing the angles. What you imagined was a parallel projection.
Hello, this is a very good video for emboss and very interesting! Good job! I tried to download you exemples but you link is not working. Could you provide a new link for you exemples?
Thanks so much for the help! Great tips! Quick suggestion, if you are doing alot of modeling you should look into getting a 3D mouse :) They are incredible! I use a 3D Connection spacemouse and it is a game changer. Keep up the killer tutorials :)
I’m having an issue trying to make the circular pattern emboss go vertically. Fusion won’t let me select “emboss” and “circular pattern” in the timeline as features when applying the “rectangular pattern” tool. I’m only able to select emboss in the timeline for some reason.
where is the emboss feature? You clicked so fast, and lost me. I do recognize is as a defect in myself, but if your going to teach, don't assume we are all on the same page.
You didn't miss anything. He is not creating in this video. He is simply rolling the timeline forward on previously created bodies and then showing some manipulation of the work to explore other results.
the problem i am having with knurling is if i make a diamond shape and emboss it a chamfer wont cut it to get the tapering effect to get that diamond pyramid / pointy tip in the center.
I can emboss my sketch on a cylinder to like wrap around it, but how do you copy/duplicate it? It combines with the object so it becomes unelectable! You don't show how just clicking your timeline :(
@@adafruit this is good! I made a custom surface using a spline and it is a certain thickness. It’s not that thick (only 3mm). Hoping this method would still work maybe if the emboss was just used lightly like 0.5mm in or out? Thanks for answering my first question!
Few options: 1) At the bottom right in the history timeline, click the gear icon and (de)select the check mark called "Component Color Swatch" This wil only add the coloured sections to the history timeline. (As is the case in this video) 2) In the DESIGN workspace, choose INSPECT > "Component Color Cycling Toggle" or simply press Shift+N This will also (temporarily, until the setting is turned off again) change the colours of each different component in the viewport to match them to the colours in the timeline section. Note that the various colours can only represent different components! If you only have one design with several bodies, but not multiple components, you will only have 1 colour in both the viewport and the timeline.

Are you part of his team? Can you exlpain that? Thank you. Also, thank you for the video! I haven't watched it yet, but it looks good!

This has got to be the very very best tutorial of ALL on embossing. Great job!
How he doesn’t show how to do anything. He literally says can you create an emboss vertically? “yes you can” and then doesn’t show how he didn’t it…
Video was clear to me on how to do it. Maybe watch it again?@@BurgerurgerFPV
@@BurgerurgerFPV it was by going back to his rectangle pattern and adding vertically
I've seen so many video on this feature BUT so far you are the best one to use it
Theres so many different emboss methods. Dont forget you can find patterns and emboss vector files as well!
thank you bro nobody else said the embossing feature had to be less than the circumference of the obejct your trying to emboss.
I wish I had stumbled onto this 2 yrs ago, great presentation, great info, outstanding video, just hit the subscribe button!
Wow that knurling on a taper surface is perfect for my application
Man you did a very great tutorial ! One of the best I’ve seen so far !
This was awesome to watch! Great video! I'll be using the emboss tool going forward!
That trick with deleting those end faces of grove to create seamless emboss is great.

Thanks Noe! Just what I was after. Doing knurling on a tapered object. This tut was perfectly timed!

Great video. Your explanation was perfect thank you
Awesome stuff - keep up the good work. Truly inspirational.
you are an incredible creator, ive been following for some time now and always look forward for new tips and designs you come up with.
Embosss like a boss!
Great video Noe! I loved the grill example and I have to try the voronoi!
This is an amazing tutorial your are a genius
Awesome I loved your explanation : ) I didn't know about deleting the faces so cool!
Incrivel e bem simples suas explicações, obrigado por partilhar! (Amazing and very simple explanations, thanks for sharing!) 😉
This is extremly helpful. How would i apply this to the face of something in a round pattern that gains width toward the outer diameter
thank you for your work and time, much appreciated.
Thanks so much for the heads up about this tool. I haven't tried it yet, but I'm now excited to!
Great work.
We all learned valuable tools with this video.
Thanks for your time.
i have to go to a different video because ur not showing how to put the plane on the outside

Great job bro❤
i am strugglimg with making a hex pattern roller for making bees wax sheets. this may help a lot

Can I import an image and emboss and image?
That is so helpful! Thanks Man!

Just make your sketch match the circumference, ( or 1mm short and then heal)
Thanks so much, didnt see this coming ! SO HELPFUL ! Cheers !
So you can map out circumference and height into a rectangle and add any design???
Now I know how I can make one of those cool mazes
great ideas
Good Stuff!!!
Is there a way to emboss a wood texture? Im trying to 3d print some model miniatures that looks like wood.
How do you select all the circular pattern to also pattern up?

Is it possible to drape a pattern on a surface (like you did with the grill) on a surface with sharp edges between faces?
can i emboss the inside of the cylinder?
Can u do a step by step on this?
I cant select faces for your delete trick. I can only select edges.
Best regards.
Check your selections are enabled under the selection dropdown of the tool bar menu. It’ll show all of the selectable options, including faces
I think i had to change file to editable. By the way if gap between two faces is to big emboss disappear. Hope it will help someone.

Does this only work with cylinders of can it be done with any custom spline/curve surface.
should work with spline curves but unfortunately wont work with revolves

You don’t have to make an offset plane. It works the same from the origin.
Could you walk it through step by step for idiots like me who are completely new to fusion 360? It doesn't help to just see a semi-final result.
can we have this on t-spline pleeeaaase.....
helix, spiral effects?
Looking for a tut to apply a seamless shape over an entire sphere. I'm coming up short lol

What about an oval circumference, rather than round?
