Have to agree with Nay Nay $60 is high just for an overnight. Especially when you could probably find an independent/privately owned RV park with/in a mile for less $. We are new to full time RV life. Have found nice overnight spots on Campendium for $20 a night. We love NM State Parks and Cracker Barrel.

Passing through California, stopped at a Home Depot lot and was greeted by local LEO the store apparently complained. We all laughed including LEO because not more than 200 yards was a mini tent city near the Panda Express haha
Moral of the story (ask first) we got the green light to stay as long as we promised to move it along come sunrise 😂

I have a similar story. I had a LONG day of driving and was exhausted. Moving on to another spot was really not feasible. I was just too tired. So I took up several parking spaces at the extreme far end of a Home Depot. I went inside and asked the manager if I could please spend the night. He said it was against their policy, BUT since I asked so nicely it was OK. As long as I was off the property by 6:00 am the next morning. I assured him that was NO problem and I spent a wonderful few hours getting some serious rack. If I hadn't asked, it was likely the cops would have been called and maybe even a tow company.

We are in Texas for a week then back west. We been on the road almost 4 years.
-We don’t stay at truck stops.
-We def love to boondock on public lands.
    -We also do harvest hosts
-recently we started to try horse ranches
-we are also thousand trails members (adventure pass)
Thousand trails is great option for between travel nurse contracts. But during contracts it’s kinda hard to find one close to the hospital.
    Great video guys !

Great suggestion about fairgrounds. I discovered them this year when planning my trip. I'm staying at two of them on my travels. A week ago I tried to find a campsite near Bozeman, MT around the 4th of July. Couldn't find anything. Tried the fairgrounds and for $20 a night, with no hookups, I was more than happy to make my reservation there. They did have a couple of available sites with full hookups too. Based on all of the other campgrounds in the area being full, I don't think people are aware that some fairgrounds do offer camping. I'm doing the same in Boise, ID. Glad you shared this info with folks. Another very informative video. Keep it up.

A couple of reasons I love Cracker Barrel over Walmart is they don't have cars flying through the parking lot all night and they don't have all of those parking lot lights. You had better have good blackout curtains if you are staying at Walmart.

We have a New Mexico State Park annual pass. It was $225 for a non-resident pass. We are paying $4 a night for water/electric and $8 for full hookups. If you want to dry camp, it's free. We've been hanging around New Mexico for most of this year and this pass has paid for itself more then once.
As for our favorites here, they are South Monticello at Elephant Butte State Park, just outside of T or C and City of Rocks about 30 miles south of Silver City. Another one to consider is Poncho Villa. Only 3 miles from a day trip to Mexico and the Park Ranger there is very knowledgeable about the history of the area and Poncho Villa's raid. They have a great museum too!

Cracker docking is pretty amazing. I am, however, going to pull a Na Na. By the time you stay overnight at a Cracker Barrel (don’t get me wrong, they are amazing as compared to Walmart) and buy a meal you could have stayed at a full hook up RV park right off the highway. That’s also a family of 3 with a doggie. Can’t forget some bacon for him. 😂

So I signed up for harvest host last week. I found myself an upstate New York unable to book a campground over the memorial Day weekend. So I signed up. I'm hopping around to a different place every night through Sunday. Their current special also includes a discounted membership to boondockers welcome. Last night a nice family let me park my trailer in front of their house and even allowed me to use their garden hose. Tonight I'm parking in The parking lot of an Italian steakhouse. So I paid $140 for both memberships and and camping for free at nice secure locations for four nights in a row totally covers the cost of both of those.

I can't remember the last time I paid for an overnight stop while traveling - and we're FTers who travel a lot. There are too many free places to spend the night. We love Cracker Barrels as they are free (and my DW loves eating and shopping there.) I'll gladly spend my money at a business who supports RVers. Their 4-piece fried chicken meal is awesome, BTW - with a light flour coating like my momma used to make. Funny you should mention Albuquerque, as there's a Walmart in the suburb of Bernalillo, just north of the city (perfect if you are traveling on NM Hwy-550) that we overnighted at. It has a convenient gas station next door that has a free dump/fill station. We love free city parks. There are many in TX that offer free hookups for a night or two too. Mostly we like easy-on, easy-off places like roadside rest areas. Many interstate rest areas even offer free dump and fill. Some truck stops have large lots for free truck parking that also allow RVs to spend a single night. Of course, we always fill-up there (and eat there if there's a diner) as a thank you for their kindness. Free casino parking can turn expensive if you eat and gamble there - unless you're lucky like my DW. More times than not we get to stay a night, have a nice meal and still leave with a little of the casino's money in our pockets - not to mention enjoying an entertaining and relaxing evening.

Great options, guys! We found that fair grounds are a great and secure place to stay if you need to be in the heart of the city. It's cheap for full hookup sites, clean bathrooms and they usually have fenced-in areas with security guards or security cameras. They may have some exhibition shows going on which may give you something extra to see during your stay. Most fair grounds will have some sort of race track, whether it be horse racing or car racing. We stay at the Indiana State Fair Grounds a few times each year and it's the most convenient place to visit everything in Indianapolis, including the Indianapolis Motor Speedway.

Very informative. I'm one to plan very far ahead for our long trips. We generally stay in RV parks but unless you've been to these places before it could be a nightmare. Last year we traveled from Oklahoma City to Southfork CO and decided to stay overnight in an RV park in Dalhart TX. Upon arriving, we decided to stop and eat at a fast food restaurant. As soon as we exited the truck we noticed the worst smell. I first thought it was the trash dumpsters but soon we realized it was the town. From what we found out later is the town is known for cattle feedlots and also produces cattle manure. We did stay at a Cracker Barrel in Round Rock TX last January for an overnight. Unfortunately some yahoo was staying in her car right next to us and was on her phone at 2 am talking like nobody else was around. Worst night of sleep ever. Nobody has control over idiots.

We have stayed in a few KOA’s and several private (& expensive) campgrounds and even though our TT is only 23’ and no solar, we prefer state or county parks. Most are located in beautiful areas close to beaches, mountains or forests and we spend our time kayaking, biking and exploring! Saves us so much money. Just wish more SP’s had full hook up. We can go 4-5 days without dumping but prefer to just have the ease of hooking up to sewer. Happy travels!

We stayed at the fairground in Hattiesburg Mississippi when the state park we wanted was a bit sketchy. A nice pond was right at the campground and -bonus- there was a police/sheriff that was residing there.
One that you missed is city/county parks. Many small towns, particularly in the Midwest/Great Plains have free or low cost camping at a city park. Some have hookups, and some don’t even charge for them - yahoo, free electric.

Always check in when we get there too. Love to boondock and we don't stay in truck stops since that is for the truckers. Many Midwestern rest areas allow overnight as well as Texas, NM and Utah. I do see the point about the cost of Love’s but have to say the convenience for me kind of wins (at least every now and then). Also, my hat was delivered as I watch this which kind of has me kind of spooked.

Have you ever stayed at Army Corps of Engineers campsites? We are staying at a few this summer. And if you have a national park pass, you get a 50% discount for your stay. Very economical, usually with water and electric.

Hanks Soda is at all those gift and snack shops along I44 across MO, IN, IL, etc. and. Route 66 or I70 and I80 across IA, OH, NE, and WY. You can also stay at the world's largest gift shop and candy store in MO. Some of the many wholesale knife and kitchenware outlets, outlet malls, and touristy gift shops along the freeways will sometimes let you overnight too.

Guys, What are you all doing about water?, are you traveling with half a tank or how are you handling that when stopping at these non hookup places. This has been one of my biggest questions. Please elaborate. Love watching you guys! Thursday tradition!

I use primo 5gallon water jugs. I cut a 2 foot hose and attach a funnel. To help me control pouring the water into the unit. Walmart shopping cart holds 5-6 , 5 gallon jugs so 2-3 trips fills up my tank completely. If u bring your jugs back into walmart u can refill them for $2 or get new one for about $6 each

Thanks Hanks! My wife and I are RV newbies and will be taking our first trip with multi- day travel. Our first few trips have all been within one days travel of home base. Baby steps! We will be driving from Atlanta, GA to HotSprings, AR. Going to break the drive in half an stay at one of the Love’s RV Stops over night. Maybe there will be another couple to play Pickle Ball! 🤣
We aren’t full time RV’ers but retired and working ourselves towards it!
Enjoy your content, thanks for sharing your adventures!
