In this episode, we take the Class-C on an adventure including a few Harvest Host Campsites and State Parks. We had no idea that the real adventure was about to begin when the winter temperatures dropped down to around freezing. Many mistakes were made and many lessons were learned on this camping trip.
We also head down to Florida for some warmer weather and try out some State Parks along the way. This is very exciting for us because it's our first time at a State Park. After 4 years of fulltime RV Life, we traveled to all Lower 48 States with a 43 foot 5th Wheel RV that didn't allow us to enjoy the National and State Parks since we were too big. Now, everything has changed and we are a whopping 33 feet in a Class-C. It's time to go rustic camping! Join us on this journey as we explore fulltime Class-C Life with a family of 4.

There should be an "Auxiliary Start" button on the front dash to the left of the steering wheel on your Greyhawk (our Redhawk did). You can push it (and hold it in) to temporarily connect the chassis (Ford) batteries and the house (Jayco) batteries. If either are low, it allows you to give yourself a "jump" from either your house or your chassis. In your case where your house batteries are dead, you can hold the "Auxiliary Start" button while starting the generator to link the batteries and use the chassis batteries instead. I always started the engine when starting the generator to ensure good voltage, just in case.
Speaking of a depleted battery, something to keep in mind: The "Main Power" switch doesn't disconnect all of the 12v from your house battery.
Our Redhawk's "Main Power" switch (the bigger one that toggles the relay) for turning off the house batteries didn't actually kill all of the 12v pulling from our house battery(ies). There were still phantom drains that would deplete the battery after only a few days even with the "Main Power" switch off when not connected to shore power. Your solar may help counter those phantom drains, but you may want to consider installing an actual battery cutoff to completely kill 12v power if you ever have to leave the rig or store it. When dealing with the solar leads, just remember that electricity is still flowing so long as the panel(s) are in the light. A solar cutoff switch is a common mod, too.

You should be able to use jumper cables to jump from your engine battery to your house batteries to get the generator started
Lee, when you say "join the Jeep community", Sophia's expression is priceless! Two things to remember, ANY vehicle will have it's pros and cons - I've had about a 12-15 Jeeps over the years, currently I have a 2dr Wrangler and my wife has a Gladiator pickup. And the 2nd thing is, SHE SAID YES!!! ;)

State Parks are my favorite! The campsites tend to be larger and better spaced out. I travel in a 31' Class A and tow a Jeep Cherokee Trailhawk. Highly recommend getting a vehicle to tow behind. I traveled for a bit without a car and it's much more convenient to have a secondary vehicle.
We put the non-skid tape (like they use on skate boards) on our steps after removing the carpet. It's easy to clean (just sweep or hose), and doesn't hold sand, water or germs, so less stuff gets tracked into the RV. Just came across your channel and gave you a sub. You two are instantly likable!

Not sure if you know but lead acid battery technology does not like to go below a 50% charge state which is about 12.2 volts, 11.6 is considered fully discharged. Below 50% lead acid batteries start to get damaged. So when you when to 9v, that pretty much killed it. Been there done that. Lithium batteries can go pretty much to to zero and the internal battery management system will shut them off once they run down. You could also look into a DC-to-DC converter which will allow your engine charge the house batteries and isolate them when the engine is not running. Just a thought. Love you videos. Research your towing options! We four wheels down tow our jeep, cost about 3k and that's installing tow bar on jeep myself. 26:09
Great point. I read about the braking system and I thought to myself….that’s a big chunk of change just to get it to flat tow. We might have some good bloopers soon as we do Jeep installs in the future. LOL.
u need tohave a long set of jump wires then to charge battery
Most motorhomes have an emergency button on the dash that you push and it connects the two batteries together so you can start the generator or the truck battery. You should also have that same relay, energize whenever the truck is started to charge the camper battery whenever you are traveling.

Be sure to research the tow bar, the one we got made it easy for me to hook up the tow vehicle (which was a Suzuki Grand Vitara) believe me if you full time there may come time the husband maybe sick and you have to do it all. The two times I had to do it I just made sure I didn’t have to back up LOL.
Two of the happiest days of Jeep ownership, The day I got it and the day I sold it. Not necessarily in that order!! Granted, Mine was a salvage title (been Wrecked). Never anything major, but nickel and dimed me all the time. That being said, I would do it all over again but with a new not wrecked Jeep. Jayco Class C and a Jeep. Yea!!!!!! My husband and I love your channel and watch every episode. You have such a lovely family and you will love a Jeep. We have a Jayco Class C and a Jeep Sahara and love them. Its so much fun when you get a duck. I keep a bag in my jeep to duck other Jeeps and my dash is filling up. The Auxiliary Start button on your dash works both ways. Bush the button while someone else starts the generator.

@@discoveryboundrv for your low voltage on the leveling system - check the ground to your leveling pump/system. If it's attached to the bracket, move it to the frame. If it's on the frame, be sure it is clean/tight. A bad ground will cause high resistance and limit the voltage to the leveling system even with new/full batteries. (PS - the Auxiliary Start button will work with the leveling system too if/when needed)
We carry the NOCO GB40 for our HIgh Country 3500 dually, farm tractor at home and Riverstone fifth wheel when traveling It will start a dead heavy duty battery
It comes in threes for sure. I have the same bug screen. I had to glue the silicone pad onto the screen to keep it from coming off. I never had the spring come off though.
I had the the same problem with my bug screen so I got rid of the springs and used long white rip-ties
Zip ties will melt. I hated those springs too, so I used some thin tie-wire instead. Worked like a charm, just pushed it through and bent it to secure it on the rig part, then twisted it and stuffed the excess inside so as not to leave something out there. Because I know that I would scrape myself up EVERY time I went by!!
Also, Make sure of your MAX hitch weight. I believe yours is 7500 lbs. Don't tow 7500...I would stay at about 6K to be safe.
I forgot to ask... How does the Class C do in the mountains? I know the diesel would do great but the C...? We are thinking of switching also and were wondering about the mountain thing. Thanks!

That State Park looks cool! How awesome that you can now go to State Parks! I bet it's some adjustment to be in the smaller Square-footage of a Class-C. I look forward to seeing what you all decide on the Jeep, especially with Pam selecting the color! It will be nice to have a vehicle and be able to keep the Class-C parked in your campsite! Oh, and the Alpaca Farm looked like such a great spot. I'd be feeding them, just like Sophia was having a blast doing.
You right and left turn camera wires are under the plastic step on the driver side entrance.
All you do is disconnect it and when you turn on the signals it will not come on and mess with your rear camera
Towing a jeep is a great move .let me recommend researching jeep models and Towing systems, I will give you my recommendations:

Try Army Corp of Engineers campgrounds too. Between them and state parks, we never stay at "resorts". We love being out in nature.
Just found your channel looks great. I would look at a weldtec rv suspension if you're keeping it and especially towing. You're access to places will double.

Go with the Wrangler soft top but be sure to talk to the service folks about being able to flat tow them.

How awesome is that! 😀 The girls giggle every-time we talk about a Jeep. They sing Rubber Ducky and dance around. Love it. We hope to make it to the Hershey show. We have never been before.

I have a Grayhawk 29 MV . If you have an electric problem the first thing is to check for a bad ground. Jayco does a poor job of grounding their electrics. They like contacting five or more wires to the same ground bolts. I had to redo most of them because of bad grounds. Also your leveling system needs 12.5 volts or better to operate or it gives you the low voltage message . Try using the manual mode if you get the low volts message ,it only needs 11.5 volts to operate. Check the wiring of the leveling jacks sometimes my connections vibrate loose . It only takes one loose wire and you get the dreaded low voltage message.. Also make sure you leave the engine running when using the jacks.
Have a 2014 Wrangler 2 door for 5 years now. Only problem was had to replace the battery, brakes and tires. We don’t tow it with our class C.
I came across your channel when I saw your rig. I love it. I’m looking at the 31FSP. Do you find it difficult right now to travel without a tow car for sightseeing?
Hi Debbie. Thank you so much. We downsized from a big 5th Wheel to the Class-C and we love it. YES…it is a bit difficult without a tow vehicle. It’s very doable and we have been doing it for several months now, but it really is a little cumbersome for a full time family with little kids. If we were only going camping for short intervals, we wouldn’t need a tow vehicle. But full time life would definitely benefit with the extra vehicle especially for sightseeing. Best, Pam
Great video. What happened to the hub caps on one side. Also we have a greyhawk 30 ft don’t tow a vehicle travel all aver the states every year a rent @ car at various locations we find it gives us all kinds of options
Thank you! We have thought about renting a car instead of buying something. In fact, we are still tossing the idea back and forth. We don’t mind unhooking the Class-C to travel to the store and back, but it does limit us in doing things with the kids. Keep you posted. We were told about the hub caps at least 6 months after we lost them. Never even realized it until someone mentioned it to us. LOL. They are still somewhere in Arizona.
Yeah we killed our 2 lithium batteries and started the van for a while. We did get the generator started though and ran it for a few hours to get the coach batteries 🪫 up 🆙. I have a video up on my channel, the Overland East Expo.
We stayed at a Drive in movie 🍿 theater in SC as a HH and I loved it. I’ve really enjoyed all the HH we’ve stayed at. 👍🏼You should see my class C but I’m warning you, she’s small but mighty.
Great video! We just got a Jeep Gladiator to flat tow. Willys edition is the best for the money and the longer wheel base makes for a better ride than the Wrangler. The finance guy told us that buying the Jeep is the cheapest part of the “Jeep” experience….😮
You should definitely test drive the different jeeps. We thought we were all set with a wrangler or Rubicon. But they were not comfortable for us so we wound up buying a Jeep Grand Cherokee Overland. I used to have a Mustang convertible and my kids never wanted the top off because it’s really cold and windy in the back.
also, our Overland can be flat towed. you need a manual transfer case that can be put in neutral and a vehicle that doesn’t have a steering lock triggered by the ignition switch. The guys at the dealership don’t always know these things, so don’t trust them.

We stopped by the Ford dealership to see about replacing them. We quickly walked out without them and laughed. Let’s just say you will know it’s us when we pull into an RV Park. They are pretty pricey.
You may want to rethink the jeep and go BRONCO!!

We have had several jeeps. Have a 4 door we tow behind Motorhome, had it 4 yrs. We thinking about selling and getting a Tahoe . I guess I missed something. Didn’t know y’all sold truck.
The bug screen on my RV came off when I got it washed. It was an easy fix. Just open the panel and reattach it from inside the panel.

Yes, get a Jeep.. Battery issue sounds like battery is not charging. House battery is the one not charging when plugged into 120. You will need a Jeep that you can put transfer case in neutral to tow.

We parked the 5’er in storage and sold Maximus. We have gone full time Class-C. We did 48 states with the fifth wheel and now we have big plans moving forward.

It’s a jeep thing. Get a jeep and you’ll get the ducks. Get the right model to tow it.
Even though it's gray water I too still wear gloves, but no way would I wear flip flops in a nasty dump site area. That is just nasty/gross! There is poop debris everywhere. You trash the poop step carpet but then you stand in the dump station with flip flops. hmmm

Hi Mark! Aka “Eagle Eye”. LOL. We lost them last summer driving from Las Vegas to Williams, AZ. We didn’t even know about it until a few videos ago when we got a comment. We said, What? 🤣. We went back through the videos and saw when it happened. Not sure if it was a HUGE pothole or if someone liked them more than us.

Yep, we totally did. 😀. We went out the next day and purchased 2 new Deep Cycle batteries. We are planning to do Lithium, but that will be later.

The step was torn on the bottom and needed to be replaced anyway. This was just an excuse to do it. In a Class C, the step is usually the first thing to hit when you ride over uneven surfaces. We hit a few times and the carpet was ripped.
